I remember back in April Broadbent got an 80m goal vs Richmond, and vs Hawthorn just over a month ago he got 28 touches.

That's all I remember him doing this season.

Yep. This is the problem. Is as inconsistent as Hartlett without any of the expectation and the luxury of having a consistent spot. Ild shaft broadbent out long before Hartlett.

It's well acknowledged in the Butcher thread. It's also well acknowledged in the Butcher thread that he has the best goal conversion of any forward ever.

In reality, the pack marks he takes are all in dead rubbers against poor opposition who aren't marking him and he has a free run over the back of a pack. Nothing particularly special. It's not like he takes actual contested marks, he gets ragdolled whenever he is matched up on a proper key defender. Even Allir Allir.

But I learnt a long time ago that arguing with Butcher fans is pointless, so.

In the past 2 years every game he's played at AFL level has been a dead rubber, and most of those games have been against poor opposition. In those games he's generally been the best performed KPF on the park for us.

Against Sydney we had 36 inside 50s, our lowest I50 count since the Primus era. Allir Allir, who is an incredibly athletic defender, could have tied one hand behind his back and beaten Dixon and Butcher by himself.

Now that the dust has settled a bit, this my take of the ins/outs of Saturday's team.

Palmer. Was part of that good 2014 draft. He will be the 3rd player to get a go when in 2015 his form with the Maggies suggested that he would be the first to get an AFL call up. Form with the the 2's has been solid so his selection is certainly warranted.
Lobbe. Was deplorable against the Crow's seconds but he was in beastly form against the Roosters. Was told to ruck all day, as we know he can do. Based on that display his selection is again warranted. Besides Jacko needs a break from full time rucking duties.
O'Shea. The best I can come up with is that at his very, very best Cam is certainly in the first 22. Consistency, generally does not go with the number 13. When Jasper and Cam first started playing they would be competing for the trophy for the most clangers per game. Jasper has certainly moved on and his game is now clanger free, while Cam still makes some howlers. Generally his first game back from a spell with the 2's is incident free.

Stewart. It was good while it lasted but his game against the Swans show up his limitations. A great club man who will leave the scene with a 100+ career games.
Ah Chee. He has been on the list since 2012 (drafted 2011) and has not set the world on fire. He was lucky not to be delisted before breaking into the AFL team. Far too inconsistent and therefore his omission is sadly deserved. Perhaps a deal with the Suns could be on the cards.
Butcher. I have left him to last! I love the guy especially the way he gets the punters off their seats and loudly cheer everything he does. He's a promoters dream. But is that all he is? I tend to agree. I know we got him as a bargain in 2009, so does that indicate that a bargain footballer will not make the grade? I guess in John's case it does. Capable of taking a good grab with good field play ability, his goal shooting on most occasions has been laughable. What to do with him next year? He was given a one year contract for 2016 as a "in case of emergency please break the glass" player so when Jay went down in round 1, John did not make an appearance with the afl team until round 19. Very strange! Yes, keep him on, but that is my soft heart talking.

I have given up on butch ... I agree with others that he hasnt been given chances others seem to have got - but if he was 'break glass ' he should've come in when Schulz went down to maintain the structure we would have trained with over the pre-season!

What's trengove shown as a forward

Ever?
What quarter did i miss that suggested hell there is a forward here

Quite a bit - can take a mark and knows where the sticks are.

Keep in mind that Trengove will be up forward as the resting ruck and not at as a replacement KPF for Butcher.

What percentage of game time do you think Jacko will be 'resting' considering Lobbe can do absolutely nothing but ruck or sit on the bench?

I'm quite happy to be proven wrong but I haven't seen a lot that I like about Trengove as primarily a forward. He can definitely take a mark and read the play, but his positioning is a bit average and I don't think his goalkicking is that great.

I'd be quite happy for him to slot back into CHB

I've always had questions about Jacko as a forward. A mate of mine says he'd be great, but I just can't see it.

Wat?

It doesn't matter if he rests forward - without butcher there he becomes the other KPF. It's irrelevant if he is resting or not.

Also, I'd trust the ball in butchers hands more than Jacko in front of the sticks. The stats back me up on that

All well and good but who would you play as the second forward from off our list.

When Ryder is back you can see it being one of Ryder or Trengove in ruck, the other forward. Dixon will play forward, so we've got two talls there. I think we could play Hombsch, Clurey and Austin down back, Ryder and Trengove alternating forward, both Dixon and Butcher forward, so we've always got 3 KPFs, leaving Hoff to roam, or drop back as to take the intercept marks down back.

This would be predicated on not playing the semi-talls of O'Shea, Stewart or Jonas at all (whoever of them is left next year), unless injury forced it. We can't do that with Lobbe this year. His complete inability around the ground means Jackson is forward most of the game. And with Lobbe either rucking or on the bench we are down rotations we could use with Ryder along with both Dixon and Butcher. He just totally destroys any structure (ha ha ha) we can hope to have.

I can see playing Lobbe to help Trengove not get a late season injury from being run into the ground (and hopefully boosting his trade value) was reasonable, but shit, if Ryder is even half fit for round 1 next year and Lobbe is near the side it's going to be the record shortest time in AFL history for fans of a club to know their season is shot.

I like this idea. The argument is flawed though because butcher won't be on our list.

Which is criminal in my mind.
