Saw him tag Mitchell once. Did allright but he was still in the Hawks top few players.
Nearly won them the game actually. At least he tried.
If i was the midfield coach and we were this poor defensively, i would be saying to Scott Selwood "Your job for the rest of this season is to stop the opposition's best midfielder."

Now it might work and it might not, but one thing's for sure whatever they're doing currently is not working.

The MC has seemed to be reluctant too apply a hard tag in recent years.
Guthrie and S.Selwood have done some run-with roles ,with varying levels of success.
Id be happy to see 1 of them go full Cameron Ling on Higgins this week.
And i think there is only room for 1 of them in the midfield, and possibly the team.
They have to try something different, IMO the midfield has been our weak link all year with the same shit getting dished out each week and if they can't win the ball first then Jesus Christ they better start making it ****ing hard for oppositions to get it in their forwardlines.

I dont get why after several lukewarm games that Parsons plays better ..perhaps the best he has played for some time .. gets dropped .. then comes back to eth VFL and stands out again.. does Parson come back in catempire on this performance ...

and Buzza has been consistent all year .. they just must not rate him... as a good fit.

Dropping Parsons was a terrible decision.

Was the slowest most 1 paced team I've seen for a while not only that the disposal quality of players was almost as bad.

Can only play so many 1 paced spuds with poor disposal at once.

Seems the club is a bit oblivious to this.

True. Hard tags often do work. Need endurance and size though. Menegola could be the perfect tagger, if he could sacrifice his game.
Can sneak forward and kick a goal too.

He would have been perfect, but unfortunately as of right now he's probably too offensively minded to do it, just like the rest of them.

IMO Scott Selwood is our best option in that role, however if they're not going to use him as a hard tagger then I don't think he's in our best 22, would rather see someone like Narkle in there for a bit of grunt and added pace.

The idea of Scott Selwood as some kind of gun tagger who also wins the ball himself - like he was for a year or two at WCE - is nice. It’s not reality though.

Look at the prime midfield mover of the other finalists - who could you confidently expect Scooter to nullify?

Lachie Neale / Dayne Zorko
Luke Shuey / Elliot Yeo
Dustin Martin
Josh Kelly / Stephen Coniglio
Scott Pendlebury / Adam Treloar

All of those players are too pacy/strong/smart for him IMO.

Would have loved him to have taken Fyfe or BHill out of the game yesterday but it never looked like happening.

I will be extremely concerned if Scooter is in one week one finals side and if he’s keeping out Parfitt or Constable I’ll be furious.

100% agree with the last sentence.
As much as i would like to see it,there is next to no chance now of Constable being included. Would be almost an admission of getting it wrong,so cant see it.
Will be very interesting to see who is selected at the pointy end if all of S Selwood,Parfitt,Guthrie,Narkle,Dalhaus,
Menegola,Atkins,Rohan are fit.

Just having him in the team is a concern.

He is a break glass in an emergency player not a player who should be keeping out kids.

If we want a slow mid who kicks it 40m and misses targets we already have his brother (who unfortunately is very much cooked).

Rohan arrived back in town with a knee brace and crutches.

Ch 7 reports medial, which will be 1-2 weeks if grade 1 and 3-4 weeks if grade 2.
Thats pretty odd cause he came off the ground after someone fell on his ankle and it twisted under him. The replay showed it clearly bend under. I wonder if that also reefed the knee, or it was from a previous incident. He did limp around on a couple of occassions but walked it off.

Allright for the meat:
Out: Sav: yeah your important and fair enough you can't kick the most basic of set shots but to be too good to chase? F**k right off. Seeya.
Scooter: salt of the earth, getting the ball but then what? No clean clearances either.
Smith: Nothing much to say.
2E: Not best 22 anymore.
Bews: Tried and failed.
Henderson: If not on a shorter opponent and can't push him under the ball he offers nothing. Will drop those marks under lights in finals anyway.
In: Taylor, O'Connor, Dahlhouse, Stanley, Fort, Constable
Narkle & Cockatoo to put Atkins, Menegola and Guthrie under pressure in coming weeks.

So who do we have that are better than them?

Confidently? It would need to be their best inside mid or the mid that is playing predominatly around the stoppages like a Neale, Cotchin or Taranto.

Could he do the job, I think so, but that's the only role i see for him in our best 22.

Scorched Earth approach hey?
Rohans probably going too miss to.

I'd bring Narkle in now for Atkins. Fort is a VFL/SANFL player - no way I have him in front of Esava. Rest looks :thumbsu:

I'd bring Narkle in and maybe for Atkins but I'd shuffle the magnets and have Narkle predominately in the midfield.
He's a midfielder. He's not a forward.

Kicked 6 goals though today, and can ruck.
Kind of agree with Narkle but I thought Atkins was one of our better players yesterday. Sort of hard to drop him.

6 goals is great but I just don't think he has the tools for AFL. Sav wasn't great yesterday but he's been important for our structure. His rucking is handy too. Atkins battles his heart out. He just lacks class.

I will say this, he has done some nice chase down tackles in the forwardline this season that have resulted in scoring shots and when he tackles he tackles hard so i wouldn't be dropping him for just that; If we're gonna start dropping players for lack of defensive effort then we better start in the middle as well as a couple of our smalls.

I'd have Constable, Narkle and Parsons over Scooter.

Would keep Joel in the team but he should be retiring soon, giving him a long contract was a bad decision.
Interesting on Parsons, I'm not sold but I think Constable should be back in the team too.

Need to persist with Esava.

His goalkicking reminds me of a phase Hawkins went through when he was around that age. Was it Carey or someone that did some work with him to fix it? Whatever it was they need to do the same to solve Esava’s issues.
