Prediction Changes v Richmond

It's a tight contest between Broadbent, Lienert and Garner to replace Burton, I suppose whoever trains the best throughout the week will get to have a go.
But I think Broadbent will get the spot, either way, it shouldn't hurt to add as much experience to the defence as possible.
Let's put sentiment to one side for a moment. Imo Broady would get eaten alive on the MCG against their small quick forwards.
Get him thru' this year then make him Magpies captain next year.

It's a lot easier to do that when the side is down the bottom and has nothing else to think about but development though. Regardless of what most of us think will happen for the remainder of the season, we're still in the mix for finals and need to play our best side to win games. Marshall's performances dictate that he's not in our best 22.

Have you noticed where Brisbane is on that ladder?
Can you understand that what you do now impacts what will happen in the future?
Do the concepts of 'sacrifice' and 'perseverance' mean anything to you?

The fact is we are NOT in the mix for finals.
Now IS the time to play those we wish to develop for the future.

Marshall, Atley, Frampton, Farrell, Ladhams, Garner etc

Putting more games into Broadbent, Ryder, Sutcliffe and even bloody Westhoof is the worst thing we could be doing right now.

Rubbish.

We could win the flag from 8th. No team scares me at the moment and our best is good enough. We play to win this year.

Playing for the future when you are still a mathematical chance is defeatist.

This should help focus Hinkley re leaners and lifters

PORT’S DROP OFF IN LOSSES (AFL player rating declines in losses)
Steven Motlop: -157%
Ollie Wines: -79%
Sam Gray: -75%
Justin Westhoff: -56%
Brad Ebert: -54%
Robbie Gray: -37%
Scott Lycett: -28%
Tom Rockliff: -25%
Ouch
Still they're young and developing players so you'd expect that. These figures ^ make me angry, especially the 1st 2 and Hoff.
This game might get ugly.

But might help Ken keep his job? Thats what Ken would think.

Just discovered Frampton got 2 weeks
Jesus christ hahaha
Looked like he checked/blocked Wilson and their heads clashed. Still Billy playing for us i'm surprised it wasn't longer.
The umpiring against us week in week out and the tribunal decisions tell us everything we need to know about
the lie of the land in this town. Remember when AJ was KO'd from a swinging right fist not 15m from the ump who called "play on".
Sheesh in 2017 at Alberton northern end we kicked a clear gaol that forced the goal umpire to move out of the way. Point signalled.

Hate to admit it but it's very demoralising too often being a Port tragic.

I don't buy that Duursma was dropped due to form, I think something happened during the week, either a training issue or a discipline issue, that disallowed Duursma to play any football for the weekend.

He probably put his head over the ball and got a hard ball get. Ken prefers the softer elements of the squad.

Not sure which team you've been watching this year, but we're not even going to make it to 8th spot.

Here's why:
— There are 6 games remaining.
— We play Richmond (5th), GWS (6th), Essendon (8th), Sydney (14th), North (12th), and Freo (13th).
— We need to win 4 of them to play finals (bolded most likely)
— 3 of our upcoming opponents are also competing for the bottom half of the 8, along with the Crows.
— Our percentage is only better than Essendon's.
— Our two main competitors for 8th spot are Essendon and Crows.
— Given that they play each other Friday night, we'll know who we will be competing with for that spot. (ie the loser)
— Essendon play: Crows, Suns, Port, Bulldogs, Freo, and Pies (bolded most likely)
— Crows play: Essendon, Carlton, St Kilda, Eagles, Pies, Bulldogs. (bolded most likely)
— We not only have to win 4 games, we also have to rely on one of them not winning 3 more games and having a lesser percentage.

On top of all this:
— We've just lost Burton (Hamstring) Ebert (PCL) and Wines (Hand) to injury.
— Our core playmakers this year have been first year debutants. They will fade. They are already.

If we lose to Richmond, which is highly likely, it's over.

Let's drop the delusion, the under performing players, and our dud coach.

Let's plan for the future.

Couldn’t agree more. Marshall has to play every single game from now.

The game preview over on the Richmond board is good reading, particularly the Diary of Ken Hinkley, helps to laugh at yourself in times such as these.

i hadn't stumbled across that "this is NOT port adelaide" pic before. damn. it's refreshing to know other supporters do see what's going on though

If the bombers lose on Friday then there's every chance we make it in the scenario you've outlined (we win 4 including beating essendon, they win 3). A win over them will effectively be double percentage and we're already ahead on percentage.

Worth noting GWS are still no certainty for finals either, particularly with their injuries.

Really There's still a lot to play out, including the bulldogs whose recent form suggests they could beat both essendon and Adelaide and make finals.

Yes, thanks, familiar with all that. As I thought was made clear I don't expect us to make the finals, but don't believe in giving up while we're still in the race. It's surprising to me the way some die-hard supporters lament the disappearance of the old Port winning ethos but want to give up on the season while it's still alive.

If the next 2 or 3 weeks see us out of contention, then play the kids. Until then, play the best side.

The best side is with the kids, for now and for the future.

100%

We must play the kids as much as possible. It is the only way they will develop.

How far is Sam Hayes away from AFL standard? Might be worthwhile giving him a taste, so he knows exactly how much more work he needs to do to earn a spot.

Unfortunately, with Billy's suspension, we may have to verify his form by making him play more SANFL once he comes back, just to make sure he didn't lose form during the suspension, but I fear it might be too late by then.
