If it was me I'd go
Out: Sauce, Thompson, Mackay
In: ROB, Wigg, Milera/Hampton maybe?

Just give Tex another week off, there is no need to play him. If Butcher can kick 4.3 against the Lions away then there really shouldn't be much to worry about. Same with Sauce, I don't care if his ankle is fine, no point risking. Thommo was okay last night, but could always do with a rest at 34. We still have 3 tougher games coming up, Freo away is a good match up for our 3 senior players in Tex, Thompson and Sauce to come back in for, before Port and Eagles.

Mackay out because he's just a pathetic excuse of a footballer, but we know that's not happening anytime soon.

What will almost certainly happen:
Out: Sauce
In: ROB

Do we think that Eddie and Sloane need a rest at some stage too, as well as the week off before finals? Or does the week off for every player in the top 8 seem like enough?

Better contested definitely. But almost every game Shooter drops an absolute gimme under no pressure. Did it again on the weekend. Has to be a confidence thing....
See the one in the third when he leapt early but gave away a free? Man he got up high. He's gonna get one soon.

So do we want to win by 100 plus or do we want to play youth/give debuts? Can't have both peeps.

If Sauce doesn't get up I suspect the only change will be ROB in.

If Sauce is right to go, no change.

I too would love for Hampton, CEY and Wigg to come in but Pyke has shown all year a reluctance to upset team continuity for the sake of making changes, this will not change this week.

Have to disagree with this. No reason why we can't have both as long as a level headed approach is taken. We are meant to be a relatively balanced side with no particularly weak area. Which means we should be able to cover 2-3 rookies coming in without significant impact against a very poor Brisbane side. Would like to see O'Brien and CEY get a run around.

If Jacobs, Walker, Thommo are even slightly off 100% - now is the time to rest them. I agree Pyke will probably make no changes unless there is significant injury concerns.

Firstly it is pleasing that all the "drop McGovern", "drop Charlie" posters are silent this week. The role they have been playing means they are unlikely to get more than 10-15 disposals a week. The key factor is how they use these possessions (kicking goals and goal assists) plus the other ways they can impact on the game.
Of course we are silent. They performed.

Before this weekend there was general consensus that McGovern would be omitted/rested.. Then Walker was out so that gave him a reprieve. 9,8,2 Possessions said to many time for a 'rest' . It wasn't about dropping him but giving him a rest to recharge. That he performed in a different shaped forward line is more credit to him and dare say giving Pyke and Teague some nice headaches going forward

This thread is pretty much spot on in terms of who should go out.
Thompson, Jacobs (inj) and Mackay. As a collective this board gets talked down for having whipping boys and not knowing anything by the usual few but time and again the board is generally a year ahead of the selectors. This is a cultural selection issue, not a knowledgable issue. We have improved this year but it's clear we still have a way to go. Losing Wright gave Campo and Noble one less to demand selection for this year, let's hope 2 more join next year so we actually have our best talent representing us.

No. I dont think there was consensus on that at all. I certainly posted that these two games (Essendon and Brisbane) are exactly the games where we should be playing the young guys like CC, McGovern and Milera into form and giving them valuable games under their belts. There is no benefit for the veterans to play in consecutive 10 goal plus wins. So it was a perfect opportunity to rest Tex, Thommo, Sauce and even Eddie or Sloane.

But this is exactly the type of game that we needed to play CC and McGovern and the main positives of the game were these two players. So anyone who was suggesting omitting were simply wrong and short sighted.

Personally, I think our best 22 for this season is the side that played this weekend with Tex and Menzel in for Mackay and one of our veterans. I am not sure if that should be Douglas or Thompson. But next weekend as well as our trip to Freo would be a great chance to get two AFL games under Milera's belt as he is the guy on our list with the most upside from where he currently is at.

Which is why I used the term general. Yes there were those who didn't want McGovern rested but there were a lot

Ok. Still not sure if it was general. In any case, I am sure that all Crows fans want him to show his potential and that was his best game so far. Still hasn't fixed up his kicking, but he is not alone in the AFL when it comes to that. But if he is going to be elite then he needs to fix that quickly. I really like the way that Jenkins has fixed up his kicking from early on in his career. He is pretty reliable now. Whoever worked with JJ needs to get onto Mitch and sort him out before finals.

I watched Doedee on the box on the weekend saw him against the bay's he is nowhere near ready what are you talking about
Will be a star ....but you're correct, not ready this year

You could be right you could be wrong, theyre have been plenty of predictions over the years of who is going to make it and who isnt. James Sellars was supposed to be a superstar after his first few games and what he acheived in the SANFL, absolute hack. james Hird was going to struggle and became one of the greatest players ever

So pointless in arguing who is right and who is wrong as we both do not know.

Where did you read/hear that Hird was expected to struggle?

Firstly it is pleasing that all the "drop McGovern", "drop Charlie" posters are silent this week. The role they have been playing means they are unlikely to get more than 10-15 disposals a week. The key factor is how they use these possessions (kicking goals and goal assists) plus the other ways they can impact on the game. A similar argument applies to Douglas and Lyons, they play a combination of midfield and forward so you would expect 15-20 disposals a game. I guess this week the delist Dear posters return and Dear must play AFL posters disappear.

Our top possession winners (excluding loose men in defence) should be our inside mids and we have reduced their TOG since the first half of the season so 25-30 disposals is expected. Over the last 4 weeks the stats for our inside mids are;
Sloane - 21.7 effective disposals, 7.0 clearances, 6.3 tackles
Thommo- 17.7 ED, 5.0 Cl, 7.8 T
M Crouch - 21.7 ED, 3.5 D, 4.0 T
B Crouch - 19.0 ED, 4.5 Cl, 7.0 T
Clearly Thommo has been hopeless and must be banished for ever  (#amidoingitright). Second in clearances, first in tackles.

I do agree that we should give him a rest but I think the Freo match is the best option. No travel and avoids 2 straight 6 day breaks. I would bring in CEY but I can also see justification for bringing in Wigg.

The main remaining question is whether we play 2 or 3 outside mids and which ones. If fit, it would not surprise me to see Hendo return and The SEED miss out. Whilst The RAT hasn't been great in the last two weeks, he has been our best outside mid this year. You can then throw a blanket (many would like to throw a blanket) over Hendo, Bran Nue Mackae and The SEED. My preference is to keep The SEED but I would not bet on this.

If Tex and Sauce miss out this week, my guess is

Out - Jacobs and Seedsman
In - O'Brien and Henderson
Couldn't agree more other than the Seedsman v hendo thing

Suspect you prefer Seedsman as do I ..... The bombs from outside 50m another added bonus . A footballer vs a basketballer with similar athletic profiles

Seedsman please . The rest of your post was spot on

Agree re resting Thommo in Perth for CEY or wigg

Oh I remeber the reports when he was picked up at pick 79
IIRC Hird was picked as the clubs nominated 17 year old, under the systen operating at that time ......didn't matter when in the draft you take him ....so the draft number in Hirds case is irrelevant
