Prediction Changes vs. Brisbane

Why do they refuse to play him up forward?
No idea. Not asking for him to play as a small forward, but as a player that kicks inside 50 to targets.

I'd like to give Hartlett a go up the ground as a winger/forward flanker and for him to use his weapon of a boot. It's clear he can't defend for nuts.

Disappointing he couldn't perform like he did vs Hawthorn.
Choco asked him that as well this morning "honest answer now Hamish, where do you see your best position in the team?" he replied that he thinks the midfielders of today need to be athletically gifted and he doesn't have the speed or endurance to play there so that back/wing is pretty much where he's best suited.

I call bullcrap on his can't play midfield/forward mentality, for majority of the game last week he was playing higher up mid/forward where he got a lot of his disposals, set up play & he looked to have no issue with his running or tank.

It's all between the ears for Hamish (and majority of the team) if you bring the intensity & hunger for the contest like most of the best 22 have for parts of the season then you feel like you can run through a brick wall like SPP did through Gleeson last night.

Choco didn't stuff around with his observations, said surely you don't like matching up on & being humiliated by speed machines like Tippa, Green & Fantasia? A lot of his questions seemed like they were aimed towards Ken & the selection panel.

I am hoping there was a reason why Doogs was played as the go to forward today, and that is Kern has finally realised that Jacko is wasted in a forward role, and the team will go nowhere until Charlie gets some help from another tall with some genuine forward nous.

My changes

Out - Toump - unfortunately he is just not up to it.
Hartlett - he is now barely a C grade version of what he once was, or could have been.
Pittard - he has become a bruise free specialist, this season he has looked less than half interested

In - Howard, Houston and Young
Plus Jacko back to defence where he belongs

Kern's changes
Out - Toumpas and Arch

In - Young and f*** knows who else

Dropping some name players may just shake the other under achievers up, but we all know it is highly unlikely to happen!

"Oi Kern farkn pay attention, you better put my name down as an in next week"

I expect:
White/Young in for AhChee/Toumpas

I would like:
Howard/Houston/Atley
for
Pittard/Hartlett/Toumpas

Don't see much point in bringing in Young or White for Brisbane.
I hate the signal that dropped, one good game, back in sends.
I also hate the signal that one bad game if you aren't one of kens faves and you are out sends.
Except for Toumpas I just don't see the point in giving him games on a wing as he doesn't have the speed.

Pretty much get:

F: R Gray, Howard, Westhoff
HF: AhChee, Dixon, Wingard
C: Polec, Ebert, Broadbent
HB: Houston, Hombsch, Clurey
FB: DBJ, Trengove, Jonas
R: Ryder, Wines, Boak

I: S Gray, SPP, Atley, Impey

Only one more tall than we currently play with, but I think Jonas can play small as well and might enjoy it on a Barret/McLuggage type.

lol could you imagine the fever pitch in Melbourne if a young KPF got midfielder numbers and kicked 8.1? Meanwhile, "work harder champ, Westhoff has some decomposing to go yet."

On changes: "Yeah we'll look at it. I'm not going to sit here tonight and say we'll make lots of changes. But we'll reward - we always have - we'll continue to reward performance and obviously tonight some people put themselves at risk...so that's what should happen."

Should. Not will. But I guess he's saying that it's not guaranteed unless the Magpies put their hand up. Gus, Palmer, Drew, Atley, Eddy - they all need a big game today because there are spots available.

On Gray: "Rob's getting to a point where he's feeling like he's nearly right again. He has worked through some trying times...but nothing unusual to what he's done in the past."

So he has been playing under duress and you've just been playing yourself, Ken. Cause no one believed he was right.

The statement about backing them was in response to where the club sits in the pecking order. It was about the team as a whole, the game style, the coaching staff etc. It wasn't about backing the 22 that played.
I always enjoy the post presser hysteria. It's like people don't watch and and just want to melt

There were really only two snippets of information to take away from that presser:
1) Hinkley criticized effort. He never, ever criticizes effort.
2) When asked if it was an anomoly, Hinkley interrupted the question with a very pointed: It had *fn* better be.

Conclusion: Hinkley was pissed off. I expect a few players have earned a dropping this week.

Howard is serviceable in the SANFL, has yet to star in a game. Has yet to kick 3 goals in a game.. He is still learning his craft, he is a player of the future, unfortunately not right now
He was a Chf. We tried to turn him into a ruckman. Did a knee. We have been playing him at centre half back.

Despite him scoring eight goals today and having two goal assists, first game played forward, I am not convinced he is ready for AFL.

He definitely had the pissed off demeanour

He criticises effort all the time, lol. "We just have to work harder" ad nauseam.

His games all year down back alone should be enough for a call up.

No he doesn't. Never. He bristles when on field effort is questioned.

Every reference to hard work is about improvement in game olan knowledge, structures and skills.

I've only ever heard him question actual effort on field two or three times.

Not ready because of the injury do you mean? Because he played AFL already last year.

This not ready for AFL stuff is a ruddy' disease I tell ya
Nah, not ready for SANFL (e.g Hammer) is a worse disease. Come on Ken, Drop some stars. I'm sure they'll reward you and themselves with a return to form then.

Fair statement. Nervous about how soon he is coming back from his knee. After today's game, I am inclined to send Trengove back and bring in Howard forward. I believe we need another tall, above 195 cm at the back. Was rather hoping Eddy would kick on, and come in, but Howard will do.

We are missing speed on one of the wings, Amon was the one we missed. We actually do not have a replacement for him. As a side matter, we looked slow against Essondon, mainly because we gave them too much space and chased tail all night.

Maybe we could rotate both Dixon and Trengove more through the middle to support Ryder.

A half back flanker goes out for Trengove. That only leaves Young and a replacement for young.

Robbie Gray, if fit, spends more time in the middle rotating with Wingard.

So my inns are Young and maybe Howard.

Outs are one of DBJ, Broadbent or Hartlett and one of Sam Gray, (has not been our worst) or AhChee (if Gray spends more time in centre) or Boak ( playing half forward role, but is captain ) or R Gray.

Lots of other permutations, and unless there is a better wingman than Toumpas available, then no other changes.

A-lot of the time it's a load of horseshit, lol.

What was Jack's saying? "If you're good enough, you're young enough." Something like that. Hence Nick Stevens debuting after four games with West. He wasn't "ready." But he was gonna benefit more from getting AFL games into him. Rather than tear up the SANFL.

Gawd, I'm even reading calls for Jake f@%king Neade to get another call-up. And I'm just about ready to eat my laptop screen. We already know what he can and, more specifically, can't do. Break glass in case of emergency only.

Gimme Atley, Drew, Marshall or Bonner before him any day. It's as if we expect to debut complete players with veteran savvy.

FMD, 136 games later, this bloke still ain't AFL ready...

Anyway, my changes:

KPD Trengove for Hombsch
Howard for KPF Trengove
Hombsch was just putrid. So bad. Instantly improves both our forward and backlines.

Houston for Pittard
Toss up between Pittard & Hamish - HH's kicking has actually been better, and he has played one good game to pittard's none this year. Skin of teeth.

Wing Boak for Toumpas
Palmer for HFF Boak
Toumpas was one of few players with a little composure, but was just. so. slow. Boak to take a leaf out of Summerton's book. Palmer gets a shot.

Neade for Impey
Impey has played one good game this year in Shanghai. Neade's to do more (see what i did there...)

Atley for 50% of Ah Chee
Love Ah Chee, but he is just too slow. With Ollie, Ebert & SPP he is one too many slow mids and it hurt us last night.

Next Week's 22:
FB: DBJ Clurey Jonas
HB: Houston Trengove Broadbent
C: Westhoff Ebert Polec
HF: S Gray Dixon Wingard
FF: Neade Howard R Gray
R: Ryder Wines Powell-Pepper

Int: Boak Hartlett Palmer Atley

Young and Ah Chee unlucky. Young to back it up. Ah Chee to plead with ken to give him more flipping game time.

Not ready because of the injury do you mean? Because he played AFL already last year.
Yes, I am nervous for him because of his injury. Round 13 2016. Played six games in 2016 before the injury. We should not expect too much. But if the coaches think he is ready, I hope he nails it.
