Sorry.

Yay! Gov got his name on a list

Boo! Naita didn't get his name on a list

Maybe we could discuss who Gov goes to this week if Schoey does/doesn't come back in? Do we think Yeo will make a better fist of the rebounding 3rd tall type role than Schoey has done? Which of our blokes seem to block or shepherd to make space for our ball carriers and is this more or less effective than the players that hold off looking to provide an outlet option?

I could go on but needless to say I think there is plenty to discuss outside of contrived "top player" lists

How the hell jamar got in with his massive five possessions over natanui is beyond me. The big knock on natanui in the past they say is he doesn't get enough possessions, well he got 3 times more than jamar last week kicked a goal and I doubt any ruckman had anywhere near his influence on the game
Its because Naitanui is bla.. er blazingly fast, he mustnt have a football brain. "Football illiterate" was the term I think.

He gets measured on a different scale compared to the whi.. er wily ruckmen who use football smarts to pick up their <10 touches a game.

Not having a go at you blokes but seriously who gives a flying **** about this stuff? I want premiership points! Getting excited about these inane media "recognitions" smells of the purples to me
Its going to be a win with the small positives this year.

What shits me most about us is not even our skills. We seriously lack hardness. Our biggest loss in that regard has been waters. We are soft as butter. It's one thing to lack skills but when a first gamer shows up most of the team you know you have a problem. So it's not just skills I believe it's been an attitude problem for a few years now. I could be wrong but it's just how I see it.

Also I love yeo but he is not the best defender and gives away unnecessary free kicks where it hurts. Needs to be in the midfield.
Really wish we had cockatoo there right now

Realistically whether rightly or wrongly the team probably won't be changed much until at least mid season when it's obvious we arnt making finals anymore?

If shred is struggling then why do people think it's a good idea to throw Duggan in. Would he cope better?

I watched this game for the first time well after I knew the result. I kept my eye on Sheed... that poor boy is not even close to being ready for AFL. Looks completely lost and shot for confidence. Reminds me of Jack Watts' first games.
He needs an extended period in the WAFL to get some form and confident. I honestly think he is at least a year away. Keeping him in the side is no good for him or us.

Lets reward good WAFL form and bring in that other bloke that killed it. I forgot his name :(

I'm happy for Sheed to stay in the team regardless of performance for at least the next month(Given our dire need for talent in the midfield). It's not like hes built like a twig and doesn't have a tank, he's well built and as fit as any 2nd year player.

The only way he's going to adjust to the tempo of AFL is to actually play a couple of games in a row. Pretty confident if we give him the midfield minutes he'll be a solid contributor this season.

While he might be well built and fit. He is completely out of his depth. Personally, i believe like anything else in life you should work your way up to the standard.
First day at the gym you dont grab the heaviest weight available.
You dont learn to drive by starting in formula 1 etc.
I really think this will only kill his confidence.
Lets face it, if he were ready for AFL he would show it by killing it in the WAFL.
Just my two cents.

I was at the game and noticed this too.

There was gulf between the Bullies' ferocious attack on the ball and ours.

We haven't been hard for years... Sydney and freo are hard, their players throw their body on the line without it having to be a special individual effort, it's just what the players expect of each other. Port (especially) and Hawthorn are hard in a different way in that yes they win the contests but a greater asset to them is a complete belief in their gameplan and a willingness to take the game on - they never doubt at any stage their ability to win, which is a mental toughness we simply don't possess...

Back in 2006 I remember one of the players saying after we came back from 11 goals down to beat Geelong that the whole side had confidence in their fitness and ability to run over the top of them and didn't panic when the first half of the game didn't go their way. Port have that faith now and it's the very reason we can't beat the top teams (or a team on their game like the bulldogs) - when things aren't going our way and the game gets tough we roll over.

Sorry to sound like a complete sad sack about this but it doesn't matter how well the players learn to execute simmos gameplan, without a certain mental attitude of hardness both at the ball and in belief/desire to win we wont be able to consistently be a top side.

I'm backing Simpson in to figure this out and motivate the side, Ken Hinkley turned it around in no.time for port, roos did it for Sydney and is now doing it at Melbourne and woosha even kind of did it for us back in 2011. Players like lamb and Duggan seem.to have that right attitude as well so I think we'll eventually get it right, just won't be this year

I agree. Changes this week:
Out: Him
In: That other guy.

Sad thing about the royals good win over subi is that there were no standouts. Compounds the problem really. Experienced professional bodies must dominate in the WAFL.

We can all agree that Sheed performed very well over the preseason - in fact, I'd say he was in our top 3 performers and undoubtedly the biggest improver.

And now people want to drop him after one poor game? I was as disappointed as everyone else with his game against the dogs, but I think his preseason form earns him at least another couple of appearances in the senior side. If we get to the end of the derby and he hasn't made any progress, then send him back to the WAFL.

Not persisting with the young blokes when the team is clearly in a rebuilding phase means we do nothing but tread water.

Newman was to be upgraded from the rookie list prior to his injury this week , another rookie might be a chance on good form in the following weeks maybe .

Murray Newman has no luck ATM .

Preseason is meaningless. Its not the same intensity as an AFL game.

The easiest way for a coach to lose the players is to play favourites or not doing everything they can to win a game - which includes carrying players who clearly need to be dropped to regain confidence. If the coaches aren't doing everything they can to win a game, why should the players?

With players like Swift and Stevens i felt they never got going because they were never given a string of games to get used to the game. We need to give him Sheed an extended run to get him up to speed in the AFL, Look at Shep when he finally was given a good string of games in 2012 he looked like a pretty decent player. Sheed looked like he was doing well in the NAB games so i would back him in the improve as the year goes on.

Lose the players???? What a tragedy that would be. They might stop running out games with their current beast-like ferocity. Hell, some of them might even request trades. What a disaster that would be.
