Changes vs Collingwood @ MCG

That selection is on a par with Jarrad Redden's shock inclusion - was it r 2 2015? Reddo was so unfit after his knee injury.

We do a like for like and people lose their minds

Never change bigsherrin.

Interesting that Bonner is the one added to the emergency list
If you think Polec and current White are ANYTHING alike, then I can't even!

Our ins recently

Houston #11th for disposals (he is a defender and they don't record spoils)
Came in and played well.
Neade 13th for disposals (he did get 9 tackles and like 12 the week before so I guess that's a pass)
Came in and played like shit.
Young #2 for disposals, (2nd in tackles, 2nd in goals)
Came in and played like shit.

Pittard #1 for disposals (2nd in handball receives behind toumpas, 2nd in rebound 50s, 2nd in inside 50s)
????
White #21st (42nd over both teams) for disposals (10th, 15th, 11th, 6th, 10th, 10th, 21st in disposals over 2017 Magpies season).
????

Oh Boy.

Genuine disgrace that Matt White gets a game ahead of others who have been killing it in the SANFL. All excitement I had for this game is gone.

FFS Ken I only get 3 games in Melbourne to see Port this year and the last one was pure torture so don't **** this up again... Absolute bullshit.

If the reasoning is that Whitey goes to the wing for Polly, and Pittard slips into Broady's position, then why couldnt Ken have moved Young or Impey for the run and carry, and brought in Eddy or Doogs to help bring the ball to ground in the Forward, and help pressure off Dixon?
Hell, he could have moved the centre guys around, esp since Trav looks like he doesn't have a place anywhere near the middle otherwise, and still brought in Eddy or Doogs. WTF IS GOING ON?!
Hinkley has lost it I think brother. He tried the two tall set up last week in the second half with Ryder deep, and it worked and freed Dixon up to thrive further up the ground. Now you'd have thought that'd be a sign to get Eddy in or Howard, and ruck Ryder etc. He clearly didn't see it or is to stubborn to change his ways. Instead we get the cycle of White, Young and Neade in/out for each other while Palmer, Atley, Eddy and Howard don't get a chance behind that group.

Now he may play Ryder deep this week with Trengove in the ruck but against Grundy for Collingwood but you'd think it won't be the wisest move as Grundy can ruck.

See what happens tomorrow, but it's at the point where we've seen it before and as much as we all want Ken to succeed as he's a good bloke and all it's apparent why Clarkson, Beveridge etc are always going to be ahead of him as a coach and we likely will be in that 5th to 10th bracket instead of top 4 where we'd be with a more ruthless streak.

I'm looking forward to seeing Wade Chapman's contested ball winning ability soon.

Collingwood have one tall forward, bringinng in eddy or doogs means trengove would go back to be part of a 4 man tall backline going up against 1 key forward. This means dropping hombsch and/or clurey to restore balance, which people would also melt at

Impey will already be on the other wing.

How is White for Broadbent a like for like exactly?
I think he means Polec - wing + Broadbent - hbf out for White - wing + Pittard - hbf in. They must have known last night that Broadbent ankle's probably wasn't going to come up but want to give him an extra 24 hours as the side was probably picked Wednesday night.

Oh Boy.

To be fair to Young, he was stuffed into a forward pocket and told to be Charlie's wingman for the entirety of the game (until Charlie was moved upfield). After being allowed to play on ball for the Magpies and picking up 37 possessions and 5 goals.

A return of 9 disposals and 2 goals was about as good as you could have expected in that role.

At least it gives us a wingman, even if it's a hopelessly out of form one. Polec for White and Pittard for Broadbent makes more structural sense than Polec for Pittard.

But **** me dead. 6 touches > 6 goals down at Port Adelaide.

Imagine the melts when we lose, and then next Thursday the only change is Broadbent in for Houston.

FTFY

Janus, we need you to pull some stats and tell us why White's inclusion is a no brainer and everything is going to be alright (something about the size of MCG and speed, etc).

Like how we probably need a guy on the wing who is fast enough to push across and cover through the midfield on a ground that is 10-15m wider than Adelaide Oval?

If Kardinia Park is corridor central, and you only need 3 and 1/2 players to maintain your shape through midfield, then it stands to reason that at the MCG you need 4 1/2 players. You can either get that 1/2 with a player that has elite endurance (Monfries) or a player with speed (White). If Amon wasn't injured, he'd be coming in. But he is, so we get White instead.

What it also does is allow us to play that pure counter attack slingshot style that Essendon used against us with great effect that we didn't have a counter for because we had no one with outside run to get over the top of their defensive wall on half back.

White has been in the top three best players for the past three weeks. He was second emergency two weeks ago, and has been first emergency last week and now this week. He can play in the forward line and on the wing. It's not that big a stretch that he gets a shot. You wouldn't bother with it on a smaller ground, but it's extremely easy to get trapped in the pockets at the MCG.

Hope he kills it :)

Then why wasn't it addressed in original selection?

Because we wanted to see the side Collingwood selected to get a feel of how they were going to play us?

What about the concept of blooding our future instead of beating a dead horse with guys that have already hit their ceiling and are borderline delistable at seasons' end?

Palmer, Eddy, Dougal, Frampton, Atley > S.Gray, Neade, Young, White

How is White for Broadbent a like for like exactly?

We already added Pittard. One of pittard or broady would have played wing. Now pittard definitely goes back, white plays wing.

So weve gone white for polec, pittard for broady.

I agree with not going the extra tall, but why not pick Bonner or Drew or even Atley? It's going to be 13 degrees with showers tomorrow, maybe another contested ball winner would be handy.

The selection or non-selection of White shouldn't influence the result anyway but why not give a kid a game in that case? White had 6 touches last week. Ken said last week he's not afraid the play the kids. Ken, yes you are.

We do. But unless Matt White has found a time machine sometime during the week and gone back to 2014-2015, he's not that guy. You wouldn't find a bigger Matt White fan than me over that two year period, but he is charcoal cooked.

HE HAD 6 TOUCHES LAST WEEK. 6! You or I could get 6 ****ing touches in a full game of SANFL football. Brett Eddy had as many goals as Matt White had touches.

For once in your god damn life stop being a revisionist history apologist. Matt White could come in and have 30 touches and 10 goals on the weekend and your comment above would still be total and utter bullshit.

If we don't get anywhere this year, and I'm fairly certain we won't, what will we have learnt about this squad?

SPP is a pretty good player.

And....yep, I think that just about sums it up.

Are you saying Broadbent and White are like for like??

It's not a like for like. Broadbent is a half-back and White is a cooked winger that got 6 touches in the SANFL last week.

We bring in Pittard, presumably to play wing

We have a half back flanker get injured, so we bring our arguably best half back flank when in form from the wing to down back
Then you have an option on the wing and you have
Howard a young KPP coming off 8 touches
Ah chee , inside mid who has been exposed playing playing HFF at afl level
White, coming off a poor six touches game granted, but has been thrown around at sanfl level and had the extra burden of captain what clearly didn't suit him. But clearly the next option in the depth for outside players especially considering the two above.

Did white deserve to be an emergency? Debatable
Was there a better option from the emergency list given the circumstances
I'm going with a strong no

Yeah but you should've seen his corralling. It doesn't appear on the stat sheet but the influence of each corral is worth at least two touches.
