I think the problem is Eddy got 3 JLT games where I think by memory he kicked 6 goals all up. He worked his way into the first 22, and due to wet weather, first game jitters etc whatever, he did not have a good game, despite being directly involved in 2 goals.

Then you have Impey who has never set the competition on fire, brought the club into disrepute with poor off-field choices in the off-season (yes a bit of leniency given the passing of his father), but didn't even need to work his way back into the team with solid football performances at SANFL level.

We're a club who over the past two years have horrible efficiency going inside 50 and it seemed whilst Eddy was in, the structure was vastly improved, and was looking like either Eddy or Dixon was going to have a good game due to the others presence. We looked good with Schulzy in 2014, and Eddy was a darn good replacement if you ask me, but just needed time to get used to the game at AFL level where a home game on Adelaide Oval against Freo was a bloody good game for him to do that, so he could come out absolutely firing against what is likely to be one of the hardest games of the year the week following.

Then there's the Westhoff should have been dropped for Impey argument.
Bagging Impey? Not cool...

I don't get the love for Impey right now.
Does some brilliant things.....occasionally.
His disposal is somewhat wayward at times as well.
He needs to be involved far more in the game and work on his consistency.
I honestly don't see how he is 'best 22'.

What a poor decision. Eddy may have only had the 3 touches last week but at least he commanded attention from a genuine KPD, which allowed both Dixon and Trengove to play more one out against their opponent.

Only reason I can see is that they are concerned about Freo's pace and want another quick mid to go with the Hills, Pearce and Weller.
While I think you are right it would great one day if we picked our team and made the opposition worry about our matchups.

Very disappointed with this. It shows that our coaching panel has not learned shit from the past 2 seasons. I can only hope that Impey has a good game and doesn't cost us the game somehow.

Impey for Sam Gray I was expecting. Sam worked but didn't get much of it and burned what he got. A relatively "safe" in vs Atley or Drew, a template for a plausible Monfries return later on.

As MrSpeaker pointed out Eddy's 62% game time on a wet track seems very low for the role of "designated Dixon decoy" that plenty here see. Maybe some weight given to that perceived weakness in the matchup games with Ross Lyon. If Eddy could do 80% and we were on a paddock like Subi, we may have made a different swap.

Ken said that Impey comes in because he's quality that helps with defensive pressure in the forward line, and that Eddy didn't do anything wrong, it's just that they wanted Impey in and Brett will play four or five years for us.

seems the most logical choice though. impey is our best player not in the team right now and eddy is the new face that made the least impact. sure he "should get another chance" but he will anyway, we want to get our best players on the park, impey is great.

Impey averaged 12.1 disposals and 0.75 goals last year. 3.85 tackles
Neade 11.1 and 0.88 goals. 3.71 tackles.

While I rate Impey quite ahead of Neade, he really isn't showing it.
I expect Impey to improve quite a bit this year. And lets not forget, he's still very young at 21.
Last year would have been extremely tough for the kid, too. Not just with the passing of his father, but the lead up to it.

I'll wait for official confirmation before I melt but i'll be absolutely spewing if we drop Eddy for a small in the name of "run".

Against Sydney we played our tallest lineup in memory under Hinkley and did anybody think we lacked any run? "Run" isn't all about the ability to actually put one foot in front of the other, it's about ball movement, and with the extra target up forward I felt like we were able to get our tall timber in an advantageous position on a regular basis for the first time since early 2015.

If we're looking at other sides afraid they'll run over us, we clearly have no faith in our ball movement which is staggering given how well we did in the cauldron of the SCG.

You don't need as much forward defensive pressure when you're able to get forwards in good positions to lead and take marks.

My concern again is that after a very successful performance strategically, we're making a tactical change. A tall for a small. Are the coaches saying that the balance was wrong against Sydney? Are they saying that the balance should be different on Adelaide Oval? I don't get it.

I rate Impey really highly and i'd like to see him in the team, but I don't like seeing us make a significant structural change after we finally look like we've sorted the structure out.

Hold all melts, eddy is playing, as is impey, really wouldn't surprise me if there is a late out on Sunday and impey is really replacing r gray who may need a week off, that is a like for like given the role he played v Sydney.

We must be playing games with the selections, our coaches couldn't be so stupid could they?

Ken confirmed he's out though

hell id even have preferred monfires for eddy. least monfries can play as a medium marking target and puts on forward pressure / lock down roles in the forward line. oh and has been known to put a few goals through the big sticks as well!

This wouldn't be a surprise.

On the SCG, my warehouse is bigger. Eddy was always going to struggle there.

And the relevance to his low game time % is?

Compared to AO he had more angles to run out into.

Not knocking Eddy, just suggesting what the "knock" from selection may have been about for this game.

If I'm Ross Lyon and an opposition with a few years of being notably poor at spotting forward targets picks a *relatively* one dimensional decoy lead up forward who is out of gas every few minutes at this stage in his step up to the level, I'm going to tell my defenders to run off him every time.

Guys, Eddy isn't playing. Impey is. Ken told the group I was with at Alberton directly.

It's about defensive pressure.

Did Ken feel that our defensive pressure wasn't up to scratch against Sydney and that we needed improvement?

F****** fuming!
