It's something many of us on here have been screaming for, for a while.

It may seem to the coaches as something too drastic, but I think drastic steps need to be taken when we are getting flogged week in, week out.

If I had the chance, I would put all the triers in the side and also Sylvia who is not a trier but is a good player and keep them in for a month barring injury.

Then after that month have a frank discussion with Sylvia. If he pulls his weight then he can sign a contract or if he doesn't pull his weight or sign on for 2 years drop him to the vfl development league and don't even let him train with the main group.

As for the others, have them do bonding sessions every Tuesday and keep them all in the know that they aren't going to be dropped, give then a red hot go.
Yeah, and I suppose the first challenge is to pick the 22 "triers". But yeah at some point you have to stick with a core group, which shows you believe in them, and that you believe in your recruiters too, which might show a bit of club solidarity. Maybe with a bit of faith, they get the game time together & good things start to happen. Geelong of say 2003 was a bit like that, not as rock bottom as Melbourne of course. There's no subsitute for consistent playing time together. Neeld may as well hitch his wagon to this group & back them in because he's unlikely to get a crack a whole fresh bunch the way things are going.

I've actually already bought a goon bag in case we lose on Sunday.

OUT: Jamar, Toumpas, Seller,

IN: Gawn, Watts, Dunn

Goon a Sunday is a terrible idea. I will be watching this match on the great wall of china!

Can someone tell me what Colin Garland does? He's generally horrible 1 on 1 and provides very little run out of defence. The time has come to either move him forward permanently or leave him in the magoos. Same with Sellar. The guy provides nothing!!! Anyway, here are my changes for next week. We might actually only lose by 10 goals this week :) God I wish Hogan was available. I'd actually think about going...

OUT

Garland(Providing Dunn is ready to go)
Toumpas(The kid looks lost. Really hurts watching Wines carve it up atm)
Jamar(Has anyone gone backwards more quickly than this guy in our side)
Sellar(banished forever please)
Byrnes(Really has added very little. Give Kent a go)
Terlich(Took the game on, but made far too many errors. I like him, but Strauss surely is a better fit)

IN

Watts(As long as he's played forward)
Dunn(Easy replacement for Garland. Better 1 on 1 and can kick out)
Gawn(Should probably play another game or two at Casey, but Jamar stinks so bad atm)
McKenzie(if ready automatic inclusion)
Kent(can provide run and is a booming kick)
Strauss(can provide run and hits targets unlike most of our backmen currently)

Blease is a maybe as well depending on who is fit etc. Maybe replace Bail if he doesn't come up.

Toumpas needs a rest, no doubt about that. But the kid will come good, we just need to give him time, something Melbourne fans don't do well these days. We want an instant impact but some kids aren't capable of that from day one.

Agree with that. Any judgement of draft choices at this stage is stupid. Toumpas was never, ever going to come in and dominate. The question was how much of a taste he would get this year. He's not a hard bodied inside mid like Viney and Wines. People actually predicted this, and it was written about in the draft threads. You could use the same rationale to argue GWS are idiots for not taking Wines instead of Whitfield. He's played two and a bit games, where the team has had it's pants pulled down, people should relax he's not one of our problems.

surely needs a rest not dropped after 3 touches and being the slowest player i have ever seen not to mention lost
he shouldn't be playing if he can't or doesn't make an impact just another recruit we are gonna fukn destroy by not playing them when they are ready or developed.
i'm sure morton and cook were gonna be guns as well should of went the instant impact player

Exactly, it's easy for an outside mid to come straight into a top team and do well, but for a lowly team, the outside mid isn't going to get too many opportunities to shine early days

An 18 year old kid looks lost in his first 3 games? Well stone me. We've never seen that before!

Needs a rest, nothing more.

Would Toumpas be better/more rapidly developed by other clubs? Undoubtedly.

So then it was a mistake for the MFC to pick him? Nope.

Carn the Dees.

so he needs a rest after playing 2 and a bit games come of it he is a number 4 pick who looks that slow its not funny has the best kick supposedly going but doesn't find any space or time or the ball

my point with the above is also this point we don't develop players if they don't come good after 3 or 4 yrs we get rid of them as will happen to blease n strauss if they don't show much this yr worried more than anything about toumpas losing his shit cause he looks like shit why put him in AFL game if he isnt up for it

He's played 3 games and it's clear he needs a spell because he hasn't yet found the pace of AFL football. It happens, especially for kids who are slighter.

I love the fact that, because we off loaded a couple of "kids" this off season that we are made out to do it all the time. Some of our supporters can talk complete rubbish sometimes. Neeld got rid of Gysberts, Morton, Cook and Bennell and all of a sudden we're a club who off loads kids all the time when they don't perform.

Outside of possibly Gysberts none of the above had any right to be on our list and 95% of supporters would have made no complaints to see them go.

Pretty much exactly what Dunstall said during the game. Hasn't yet adjusted to the pace and as a result his physicality is being exploited.

On top of that he was 1 of about 23 players who rarely ran to the right spaces so we can't condemn him for that either.

He's not afraid to get in the action though so from a mental pov we know we haven't recruited another pea-heart.

He just needs to be managed in the first season.

As others have said how good can you really expect him to be, he may have been a high draft pick but he has come into one of, if not the, shittest melbourne side in a long time. Give the kid a break in the VFL where he may be able to make more of an impact. Then when we are being competitive for entire games, and maybe even getting a win or two under our belts bring him back.
Leaving him in a team that is getting slaughtered week in week out isn't going to teach him anything and will only erode his confidence

Absolutely spot on. The kid is no pea heart but, as you mentioned, he doesn't quite have the size to match it with the bigger bodies running around, and he hasn't adjusted to the different pace. Give him a month down at Casey, see how he goes, then give him another crack if his form warrants it.

He clearly hasn't adjusted to the pace but he does run to space , in the nab cup he got 2 marks inside 50 from running forward an on the weekend he was free inside 50 but Sylvia missed him buy a mile in a 3 on 1

I think Toumpas must stay in against GWS to see if he can get a bit of confidence against a young inexperienced side. Also Gawn and Strass must come in.

It's probably been mentioned to death but: OUT: James 'The Dud' Sellar
There doesn't even need to be an IN. We'd be a better team one man down then with Sellar in the team

I disagree, most of these kids are still 2 years ahead of Jimmy - let him go to Casey to work on his game.

As for my team;

IN: Strauss, Watts, McKenzie

OUT: Davey (has kicked some ripper goals, hasn't done enough apart from that IMO), Sellar (really struggled up forward, has some value in defence), Toumpas (not up to AFL pace yet)

FB: Terlich Frawley Garland
B: Jetta McDonald Strauss
C: Grimes Jones Sylvia
F: Tapscott Watts Bail
FF: Byrnes Clark Howe
R: Jamar McKenzie Trengove
Int: Viney M. Jones Pedersen
S: Evans

Dunn probably needs a week in the VFL coming off a hammy.

I saw on the melbourne fc app today that mckenzie is a chance to play this week.
Would you play him off the bench or straight into the game?
