For once we have no Injuries. Jamar, Rivers and Bennell to come back in, heard Bailey has said Valenti will get a few games in a row, so who's on the way out?

FB: Whelan Warnock Bartram
HB: Davey Rivers Grimes
C: Morton Moloney Bruce
HF: Sylvia Miller Robertson
FF: Bate Martin Petterd
R: Jamar McLean McDonald

B: Johnson Bennell Valenti Jones

In: Jamar, Rivers, Bennell
Outs: Cheney, Dunn, Maric

This is hard. We need Bartram for tagging, Whelan for shut down, Davey for attack. It's out of Grimes, Cheney and Bennell for me and I can't split them. I love all three.

Jamar comes in for a bit of tap work (hopefully that's not all he can do now).

Dunn was average on the weekend, Maric has had three games and is getting better but isn't setting the world on fire.

there is no way you could drop Cheney after his lionhearted effort on Saturday. His hardness is inspirational (he really is a mini-Wheels) and he can play taller than he looks. We need all the quality we can get with Rivers, Frawley, Garland out.

Dunn might have to go either through suspension or poor form and Bennell can come in for him. Gives us that extra class and zip.

If Jamar or Spencer are fit, i think one of them needs to come in. Not sure who for though.

On demonland there are rumours that Moloney has hurt himself - hopefully that's not the case.

I reckon Rivers and Green are still a week away (have to be ultra-careful with both).

So for mine -
OUT: Dunn, and as much as I love the bloke, Petterd. Simply not doing enough.
IN: Jamar, Bennell

Here's a question: would Junior be a definite starter if he wasn't skipper?

Drop Maric? Are you high? No way in hell should he be dropped, kicked 2 goals and did not put a foot wrong. Why are people so quick to drop players? Especially with no reason, nobody should expect Maric to set the world on fire. All he should be expected to do is contribute and he is and did with his 2 goals yesterday.

There's no guarantee Rivers will be ready to play this week.

Assuming Rivers is fit (which has been the talk coming out of the club) he must come in. I'm more skeptical about Green's fitness. Dunn goes out for Rivers.

You're right about Cheney, I love him, I can't drop him but what can I do? Grimes deserves a spot as well and from all accounts Bennell is coming back in. If I had my way I'd keep Cheney and leave Bennell out. Or... I don't know what to do... It's doing my head in. Cheney is the better defender hands down and is very composed coming out of the 50. We've got Davey, do we really need Bennell if Cheney can just get it to Davey anyway?

I forgot that Petterd did nothing this week. Maric stays in for Petterd.

Jamar in, if he plays crap I have nothing against dropping him after a few games.

Very, very good observation. Hate to say it, but I would now say that being the captain is just about saving Macca . To be honest , he is not as effective as he once was, to the point that he is now, really taking the spot of a younger bloke.

But having said that, it really shows us that we are really improving if we can now make blokes earn their spots...even the Captain. I don't think though we would ever drop our captain.

In fact I wonder when was the last time the Dees, or any team dropped a Captain beause of form??..I certainly can't remember when ...and I don't think it happens in a club. oes anyone know? Good talkback question.

Re other changes. Cheney played a good game and I wouldn't dream of dropping him. Maybe the only change I could see is a Dunn going out...maybe.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had no changes to this team...apart from any injuries we don't know about.

Surely it will all be based on match ups depending on who is playing for Hawthorn. Warnock and Martin to take Buddy and Roughhead.
Whelan and Cheney to take Williams and Rioli.
After that maybe Rivers on Dew/Brown depending on if they play forward, Grimes to take Moss.
I reckon Dunn is in abit of trouble both for suspension and match ups.
For me:
In Jamar, Rivers (if fit)
Out Dunn and maybe petterd however dropping petterd leaves us a forward short i reckon.

Apart from anything else, without Maric, who would provide the crumbing role up forward for us? We're short enough on players who can do that sort of job as it is at the moment.

Rivers is a tough one... we need a bit more height again perhaps in defence IMO, but no way do we want another LTI phase for him.

IMO Bartram has to go, he needs a couple of weeks down at Casey. He can't kick and he's a clanger king. I know he's going through tough times with his father passing away but he isn't playing well.

Can someone please tell me what kind of play Clint Bartram will be??

To me he just feels like a weak link in our side, am I crazy? Because i know he gets alot of love on the boards.

Out: Dunn, Petterd, Cheney

- Watching our midfield on the weekend function very well without Green, I'd be inclined to play him in the position I always wished he'd play: a forward. Also helps with the injuries to Hawthorn.

- Robertson, Miller, Green, Maric and Bate could be extremely tough for the Hawks backline to stop.

- Really wish I didn't have to drop Petterd but I can't see anyone else that could be dropped.

- Dunn, even if he doesn't get weeks for umpire contact I really can't see him playing next week.

- Nothing against Cheney but if Rivers is fit he has to make way regardless of last week, unless someone can tell me somebody else that could be dropped instead.

I agree with your match ups. I think Martin will start on Franklin, as he is a little bit more athletic than Warnock. Warnock has good strength, so he might be better suited to Roughead in the goal square. Whelan on Williams and Cheney on Rioli makes good sense also.

He's a tagger and he has been playing pretty well the last couple of weeks, I don't know where you came up with "he hasn't been playing well". I thought he did more than a decent job on Cooney yesterday, while Cooney picked up 26 possessions and a goal I felt his impact around the ground was heavily negated by Bartram. It's exceptionally impressive when you look at the difference in size between the two.

Pretty sure Vandenburg missed games at Hawthorn when he wasn't injured. But McDonald adds a lot for our team, don't get sucked in because he doesn't rack them up like some of our other mids.

I'm going to name a team based on the players that I hope will be fit actually being fit:

FB: Rivers Warnock Whelan
HB: Grimes Martin Bruce
C: Morton Moloney Davey
HF: Sylvia Miller Bate
FF: Maric Robbo Green
Foll: PJ McLean McDonald
Int: Jamar Jones Valenti Cheney

In: Green, Rivers, Jamar
Out: Petterd, Bartram, Dunn

EMER: Petterd, McNamara, Bennell, Bartram, Dunn (susp?)

Reason for Ins: Green is obvious, we another tall down back, and we need another ruckman.

Reason for Outs: Petterd is the unlucky forward, he's been doing his job which is contesting, kicking a goal and game and applying pressure but someone had to go. Dunn is likely suspended but also he is the extra utility I couldn't fit in. Whilst I'd love to have a tagger and keep Bartram in, the coaches have stated a desire to keep Valenti in, and I needed one more out. McDonald resumes playing mainly defensive, and the other midfielders add some more accountability into their games.

Despite how much I wanted to I couldn't justify making extra changes to bring in Bennell or McNamara or both. Valenti and Cheney are the lucky two.

I think Cheney will be used on Rioli, so he'll stay in the team.

Don't know if Green will make it back in time. It will have been 5 weeks since the broken jaw, he'll probably need another week on the sidelines.

Ins: Bennell, Rivers, Green
Out: Dunn, Davey, Maric
Reasons
-Dunn suspension/form
-Davey I think he needs a rest like what Bennell got. His hamstrings have been worked on a lot in the past 3 weeks and he might just be sore and need a rest
-Maric give the kid a rest, he's done nothing wrong but I think we still need Petterd's fwd line pressure to create turnovers and hopefully goals

- Every midfielder that goes off the ground has their hamstrings worked on, helps prevents/relieves cramp, can't rest him.

- Maric's played only 3 games, does not need a rest.

Put Whelan on Rioli.

Depends if Green is back...... and Rivers.

I don't think that Bennell should be an instant starter. Keep Cheney and Maric in.

Dunn will go most likely.

I think it's a bit more serious than that. Serious enough for radio stations to mention it three weeks in a row. He's only playing 70 something % a game. You'd think someone so important and influencial would be playing up around the high 80's if they were totally fit.

Davey has never been an endurance player, this is the first season he has played predominantly on the ball. It's no surprise too me anyway that he only plays "70 something %" a game. With time I think he'll be playing 80% of games.

Sounds logical to me. Forgive me for being concerned.

Oh and I never said rest Davey, justadding some info to the discussion.

I never said he wasn't injured either, I'm no doctor or anything but I don't think we would have sent him back on if he was regardless of the state of the game if he was having tightness or anything in the hamstrings.

Unless he is injured, he'll play.

I also think we would have heard something by now if he was suffering from an injury or if he picked one up yesterday.

Whitnall at Carlton?

IN: Jamar, Green, Bennell, Rivers.
OUT: Dunn, Petterd, Cheney, Sylvia.

Before I get shot, what has Sylvia done since his second quarter v Richmond. Potential can only take you so far and until he is willing to give his all then he can play at Casey.
