Fall Out Boy

My take:

In: Harley, Mooney, Callan

Out: Gardiner, Lonergan, Thurley

Harley and Mooney are no-brainers, Callan i think would provide more value than Thurley right now, given the coaching staff are reluctant to use him at all, and when they do, it's strictly in a pocket.

Fresh can play as a small defender (something we really need), or can run through the midfield if we need fresh legs.

Lonergan was always going to make way when Tom Harley returned.

As for Charlie, one of he and Andrew Mackie has to go out. For me, Mackie provides more flexibility and is far more likely to kick multiple goals (or any goals, for that matter).

What changes would you make?

yeah something like that sounds good to me phat. smithy won't be available by any chance will he?? would love to see mack stay in the side although I think they'll opt for charlie. like the inclusion of callan.

Apparently he himself has said he'll be right for Round 12. Not a chance this week, sadly.

I'm suprised you would keep Mackie in over Charlie.
I suppose it depends where we need the player, I think they're quite different.
I've liked Charlie this year, although he has been very hot/cold...but Mackie just doesn't seem to be playing with any confidence at all.

I like Charlie moving up the ground a bit, near Big H at CHF.

Pat.

Each to their own.

I prefer Mackie's versatility and ability to kick goals (he's one of very few who have proven capable of kicking multiple goals in a short period).

Mackie for now - Charlie has had plenty of chances this year but has failed to find enough consistency to warrant a regular spot. Having said that, I hope he does get it together, I feel like he could be a very good player for us...

only ever seen one great quarter from mackie in rnd1, 1st quarter
yeah things have changed a bit since then hey. did he just get lucky that quarter or what?? remember thinking at quarter time that day that he was going to be pretty handy chipping in with his 3 or 4 each week...

You don't remember him cutting up Leigh Colbert last year, before a Ben Graham special saw him forced off the ground with injury?

He was pretty bloody good in the win over Melbourne last year, too.

I know Mackie does go missing at times, but at least twice he's kicked three goals in a quarter. Snout has never kicked three goals in his life.

I see where you're coming from...my thoughts were that Mackie could kick 3 goals in a quarter, then go missing...where as Charlie keeps giving all day. Innefective Charlie may be at times, but IMO, when Mackie isn't doing his occasional 3 goals in a quarter thing...he may as well not be on the ground.

Personaly, I don't care who gets the spot, as long as we play well and beat the Pies.

Fair enough.

I don't doubt Charlie works his arse off, but for this week i just prefer a bloke who a) can kick goals and b) has the ability to tear a game open.

Phat you are usually the man of sense and reason but please calm down
has the ability to tear a game open.
????

PATDMAN used to HATE Charlie with a passion so for him to say Charlie really shows. Charlie has held and played well at CHF. Mackie will probably never do that. Charlie can be thrown, forward, back, wing and midfield. MAckie can but will get pushed off the ball.

You don't call kicking three goals in a very tight quarter tearing a game open?

Tearing a game open....yeah...tearing a game apart, now that I would like to see from Mackie ;)
I do like how he always seems to kick goals in bunches...2 or 3 in a quarter, but then he goes missing.

I suppose I'm going by which player has a lower low...I think Mackie.

Either way....GO CATS!!!

His great quarters have been very important. The goals against Richmond came when I thought they might actually threaten us after the first few min, while he kicked our first 3 goals against the Kangaroos after they had slammed on 4 goals into the wind last season!

I probably share this with a few other of my fellow supporters on this board, but I'm getting a little frustrated with those two boys because we've seen what they can do, its just a matter of putting it together for an entire game...hell even a half would be some improvement.

I know they're still young & patience is a virtue, guess we'll just have to wait and hope

Both do have genuine excuses for slow development.

Andrew Mackie had played very little football, and virtually none at a decent level.

Charlie Gardiner was a midfielder in the TAC Cup. Fair ask to become a forward in the AFL after being a midfielder all your life.

In: Harley Mooney
Out : Mackie Gardiner

I would keep Lonergan in the side, as our forward line lacks a bit when Ottens goes into the ruck to cover our great captain. Thurley played 2 very good games at the dome earlier so I would give him another chance in the perferct conditions.
