Desperately missed B Crouch in the middle today, lacked alot of flair and looked massively slow.

We had no structure today and our 'press' was non existent..

That's why Leaver should be thrown to the wolves for the next month abd played at CHB.

We are not a premiership team and we need to develop key players for the future.

Don't agree, you don't throw players to the wolves

He needs to come in and player a HB / 3rd tall role

If your best players aren't playing well you have no chance especially that many. Smith has had 2 shockers and Sloane copped a big hit early. Danger needed to nail the early shots. Douglas wtf? Tex looks injured or tentative.
Good players having bad games happens, and I'm not denying those players had shockers today, nor am I denying that it had an impact on the result. That said if you look at successful teams even when their best players have their bad games there is always someone who steps in fills the void and gets the team over the line, currently we have very few to do that for us, and worse yet we continue to show faith in those who continue to fail in this regard.

Watching the game live I thought that were quotes few times were VB made great position only to be ignored for a poorer option

Did you see how many times we kicked long to Bob Murphy or a free Dog player?

VB just couldn't get in the contest enough... He was semi-tagging Murphy at one point but just got lost in the no mans land.

At times throwing young players into the heat of a hard contest against teams like Port could pay divedends, nothing could be much worse that seeing both Jenkins & Hartigan spudding up the oval game after game.

Great call. Maybe not CHB though. Leave hartigan there and let him get smashed every week and bring Lever in as the 3rd tall.

As soon as the list is healthy we need to make some hard decisions for the future such as calling time on guys like McKay, Wright, VB, Jenkins and Hartigan.

Fringe players were poor but it was the stars that cost us the game.

Sloane, Tex, Smith, Douglas, Danger all woeful.

Having said that playing a plodder instead of Cameron was a shocking call our pressure was non existent.

Out Wright, Lyons, Kelly
In Cheney, Cameron, Grigg

Kelly IMO was far from our worst, in fact I would have had him in our best 6, no arguments with the other two.

VB's been average for a couple games now. I'd suggest both he, Wright and Kelly are on the chopping block. Need more speed against Port, so perhaps Charlie gets a recall despite his shite SANFL form.

Definitely need to keep Hartigan in the team but alter our play to ensure he's not left exposed like with Stringer. Problem is, besides Cheney and Otten, at this stage we don't have many 3rd tall types who can read the play.

Yeah agree he was pretty good, just praying Cheney is back! No amount of fringe player swapping is going to beat Port we need Tex, Smith, Sloane and Danger back up and firing.

Question needs to be asked how hard the Crows were pushed at training during the week after a tough slog against Melbourne. Crows looked very flat.

The press, like every game plan, only works when you get first use and move it forward deep. We didn't get first use, didn't hit the lead-up, and didn't get it deep. No chance.

The press only works if the players are fanatical in working hard enough, otherwise, a gap or two opens up and the entire thing falls apart.

Today, for some reason, we didn't have one or two players letting the zone collapse, we had 8-10.

These guys need to be dropped even though we have no depth. If i were walsh i would be making a serious statement.
Hartigan - his performance speaks for itself (would rather play lever now throw the kid in the deep end and find his feet other than persisting in hartigan)
Jenkins - Would have to be the softest player in the league by a country mile (would rather young ramsey come in and actually show some energy)
Wright - nothing more than an average player at best and does not do enough
Lyons - came on as a sub and the dogs players were jogging around him ffs!

Agree, but we couldn't even set the press up because we didn't get first use or create turnover.

Out: Hartigan

Tom Lynch to CHB...a position he played a lot in the VFL and the position Ross Lyon was grooming him for at the Saints....at least he offers some run and can handle pressure better than the current incumbent.

I think current is superfluously needless in that sentence.

We have the core of a premiership team but now we have to find 8-10 "2nd/3rd/depth" (or whatever you want to call them) players. Most premiership teams bat to about 25-27 (and then 10 or so untried kids) players who can come in and perform a role. We currently "bat" to about 16. That's why having so many youngsters on our injury list is so disappointing. The sooner we can try out this kids and see what we have the sooner consistent turn around will come.

Really?

Lynch shit the bed harder than any other player today. Hartigan got completely destroyed after half time but Lynch's repeated turnovers in the first quarter set up the game.
