My opinion is if your boys buy into being at a disadvantage due to the travel, then they've already lost. Elite sports is as much in the head as it is the training you do. They'll know their bodies, they'll know they'll get extra time to recover, they won't shirk a contest or stop running for the whole game, not just the last 3 minutes as in your example.

My intention is not to take away the fact you guys have travelled and have had short breaks.

My opinion is that if players read bigfooty they've already lost.

I have been working this year as a fly in fly out worker and let me tell you after flying from one end of Australia to the other makes you absolutely stuffed when you get to your destination not only the jet lag but the time zone, takes a couple of days to get over!! And other workers i have talked to who have done it for years say it doesn't get easier if anything harder !

I'm usually positive going into every game but I doubt we will get over the line in this game. Three games in twelve days in three different states may be one hurdle too many. Some of the boys are looking sore. I hope the Gov gets up because I'm not sure young Tom is ready yet.

I'm not fifo but I travel regularly and even traveling within time zones takes it out of you. Your days are often longer and sleeping in hotel rooms is often hit and miss. Traveling from west to east is the hardest to adjust to because I struggle to adjust my body clock forward - going to bed at 8.30 is never fun and rarely works for me. Maybe the players are better at it than me, but I do it for a living too...

The topic is probably bordering on things I don't have the scientific evidence for in order to provide a response I'm comfortable with, so I'll leave it at that.

Neither looks like kicking a bag I'll grant you, but it was those 2 who did the damage against Freo early with 2 each in the 1st.

That's actually a myth, the stats have been done and he gets them pretty evenly across all 4 qtrs.

That just means some Tigers games are over before the first quarter.

We've only conceded 90 points or more twice this season - round 1 v Bulldogs (97) and round 3 v Freo (118). An amazing stat considering our depleted defence.

And lost both games

Fair to say then that if Richmond can put 90+ points on the board they'll likely win

Similar experience - it knocks me around. But work is work

Every thread where this game is mentioned (and I've seen at least 4 different ones), I see Eagles supporters carrying on about 6 day breaks and travel. I'm sick of this shit, it's worse than Essendon supporters last week writing off the game days before it even started by whinging about the umpiring treatment they were sure they would receive.

Cry me a ****ing river, we've faced worse circumstances against better opposition in the past and still come out on top.

No changes.

My team also doesn't have one of the most successful home grounds in the competition

They're professional sports-persons, they might be sore but it won't be from 6 day breaks or travel, it'll be because they give their all in the contest

You would have to go back to the glory years of Richmond in the 70's when it has been able to make the MCG their fortress. Living in Melbourne for 10 years, I went to a lot of games at the G (pre 2001 when AFL full members got automatic entrance to any game). In that era, Collingwood fans brought stronger support to the MCG. You could feel the buzz along the wing as Collingwood brought the ball along. Essendon and Carlton were big and better represented and North played specialist Friday night football at the G. It felt like an anomaly that Richmond claimed to be one of the big 4 in Melbourne.

My recollection is that the buzz was massive when singing Tigerland (not hard when you win) but went into long periods of quiet when you were behind. Observation only - hard to back up with stats.

Oh and 6 days with long haul travel - loads of data out of the USA on this one and it is a massive point of different. The Lions paid extra in their 2001+ glory years for the plane to be flown at low altitude to aid recovery. I did a lot of long haul travel and my injuries took much longer to recover from after long haul travel. Swelling - not helpful when recovering from knocks.

I'm leaning towards agreeing with you.
Their midfield and our travel schedule is making me think we won't win.
As for barrass it might be a game where it makes him ready. Kids love the challenge and bringing him in could make him relish his chance and be a turning point in his career.
That said I'm hoping McGovern gets up as well.

Go ahead play 3 talls... but when they look dumb when sharrod yeo sheppard and co. are flying up the guts away from them.

You obviously have not seen any Tiger games this year. If you believe with our 3 talls, we will allow your players just to stream out of our back half, well, wow. One of our main strength this year has been our forward 50 turnovers via pressure. Morris, Edwards, with a resting mid, and Deledio all have pace to close off that run.

Also for those saying Tyrone is not that good. His last 4 weeks have been outstanding for a part time ruck/forward. He is impacting the scoreboard, around ground as the link up target and more importantly has improved his accuracy.

I have watched a fair bit of your games. You seem particularly from a kick out, love the long kick to the fat side, mark, another long kick to HHF then a lock kick in. if we can limit you in the air, which IMO is a strength of ours, it will go a long way to forcing your mids to hand ball and short kick. With some of your mids average disposal efficiency, it shoud allow us to use our strength which is scoring from a turn over, we are rated to 3 in that stat. I think a 7 goal average and its what allowed us to beat freo.

Your forwards are your key. I still remember the last time we played your 2 main forwards in Kennedy and Darling and we have a strong record with limiting there output. What worries me about your side is your smalls, they can be deadly and your forward pressure has really ramped up this year. If you can force us to go chip kicks with pressure you will score.

In any event, will be a cracker. I dont by in to the 6 day breaks thing. They are professional athletes with elite performance/recovery managers. We backed up 2 six day breaks with travel in our 3 games prior to the bye and one all 3. IMO you will come out hard. My worry is that we dont perform well after a bye historically, curse of a young squad. Hoping this year being a little older we rectify that.

It's a bit of a worry.

We fly out Wednesday. You would hardly think that they can make a call on McGovern that early.

Have we ? Have we really came out on top?

Have you seriously forgotten the last 9 seasons

It should be a good game and really looking forward to it. The G on a Friday night is usually a lot of fun and two teams that are there or thereabouts is a good recipe.

That said, you do not understand long haul flights and the impact on bodies. Melbourne to Adelaide is 1 hour 25 minutes and Melbourne to Hobart is 1 hour 15 minutes. You spend more time ascending and descending that you do at altitude.

Feet, ankles, hips and shoulders take a pounding at altitude. My brother in law is a pilot with Emirates and he confirms the medical findings known at the airlines with sports people. It is the time at altitude that is the difference. You boys usually spend more time on the Tullermarine Freeway that in the air when they travel.

Barrass will easily has the height to
match the tiger forwards. Would be at least 197cm and has long arms.

Obviously he probably won't have the strength though.
Best to match him up on Jack then. Barrass is more a full back than a CHB so Jack may try to run him about. Jack is best at judging the marks with his leap and less on muscling an opponent off the ball.

Come on guys, we'll deal with Richmond's tall forwards the same way we dealt with Geelong's. Stephen Bradbury style.
