We did the same thing, coming from the country as well.
Stumbled our way into gigs at the Espy, the Tote, Arthouse, the Corner, Hifi bar etc....I can put you in touch with some mates of mine who play pretty often, if you're interested.

I'm interested in how did you stumble across gigs in Melbourne? I'm currently trying to get one of my bands into those kind of places, but unless you have 100 mates living in Melbourne and a bunch of other Melbourne bands to join your bill they don't even take a look at your stuff. We have a solid following and regularly pack the prime original music venue here (it comfortably takes about 150 people, we often get around 200) and have played across country Victoria, but just can't get a gig in Melbourne. I've tried contacting all of those venues and so far it has all been fruitless.

Any help/advice on how to get gigs in Melbourne would be much appreciated.

My friend is finally going places.

Used to play in bands with him and toured France and New York.

I've given music away,playing that is, but he is still focussed and strong as ever.

Really hope he goes somewhere as he is a close friend and he deserves all the hard work he has put into his love which is music.
