Click bait on my phone with Adelaide Football club appoint new coach pops up.

So Chelsea will be working with the mens team as a development coach. Maybe this is a succession plan to take over from Clarke.

dont mind it...shes a standout player in the AFLW competition, hard nut and obviously a quality leader, hope she brings something different to the coaching group.

It is just a way to say we are a 'progressive culture'.

(Also the real reason is it's the best way to pay her more cash, and so she plays for our women's team on peanuts, and we can keep other stars like Hatchard and Marinoff etc on bigger contracts)

Definitely the latter part here is big factor in her hiring, but there is no doubt that Randall has heaps to offer as a coach. In addition to her obvious footy knowledge (one only has to watch AFLW to see that she is head and shoulders above 99% of other AFLW players in terms of positioning, etc), she has spent years running footy coaching clinics, working in roles to grow footy pathways, and generally contributing towards footy and physical education. And hopefully she can impart some of her passion for playing footy and getting the best out of yourself. This is a lady who at one stage was driving 26-hour round trips just to play footy each weekend, years before AFLW was a thing.

Anything that keeps her at the Crows is a good thing in my eyes.

Chelsea is a fantastic leader and captain that brings the players together as seen with the success and player retention of the womens team. She is also very well spoken and inspiring with her words. Will be an excellent addition to the development team and at much reduced cost. A very deserving recipient of the scholarship and a win-win for both Chelsea and the club.

She has already been a fantastic addition to our club as a player/captain and I'm sure will also become a stand out development coach, she just has "it" knows the right way to communicate with people and build relationships and understanding with others. I have no doubt she'll be excellent in this new role.

AFC draft sanctions incoming in 3, 2, 1…

Seriously though, good appointment. Chelsea is elite in ways that very few in our mens team can claim to be. Hopefully she can instill some of the same to this playing group.

Part of a woman’s coaching program which gets women into a coaching role with the mens teams. Daisy Pearce and others also taken the role with other clubs. Not sure it had anything to do withwhether she is the best person for the job or just the best female person for the job

Huge grats to Chelsea! Absolute superstar!

But I don't get the, "first female coach in Adelaide's AFL program" stuff. Just stated on ch9 as well.
Pat Mickan beat her to it by 25 odd years. Know it isn't the most reliable citation but -

Breaking the barrier for women in sport, Mickan also became the first female specialist skills coach in the Australian Football League with the Adelaide Crows. (wiki)

Makes the Vic media circle jerk a couple of months ago about Daisy joining Geelong AFL men's coaching rank being ground breaking a bit redundant. Also, didn't Freo have a female specialist coach a few years ago?
