Another update to my draft. I've also added some descriptions, and I'll eventually do the rest. Also included AFL comparisons. I've tried to not just mention the same players over and over, some players were more difficult than others. Anyway, onto the draft...

Round 1

#1 GWS - Stephen Coniglio (182cm midfielder - Swan Districts)

Still the #1 for me, although it seems like they might go for Patton on the day. Is pretty much the complete midfielder, and is every bit as good as Swallow from last year. Big ball winner, can do it himself or link up with others. Tackles well, is quick and can hit the scoreboard too. Nothing not to like about him. AFL Comparison: Chris Judd.

#2 GWS - Jonathon Patton (197cm forward - Eastern Ranges)

Easily the best KPP in the draft, although will probably be #2 at GWS behind Cameron. Giant of an 18 year old, would physically be ready to step in and play from Round 1 next season. And that is exactly what GWS need. Bit of a throwback to the times of the power forward, I don't think he will take as long to progress as some other tall forwards have recently. AFL Comparison: Jonathon Brown.

#3 GWS - Chad Wingard (181cm midfielder - Sturt)

Great midfielder from SA, particularly strong in the clearances. Just has the knack for getting the ball out and into space. Good ball winner and has decent speed, as well as good disposal. Best midfielder to come out of SA in some time. Personally, I'd take him top 3 without a doubt although there is a chance GWS will allow him to go to Port Adelaide to ensure they get exactly who they want with the rest of their first round picks. AFL Comparison: Scott Thompson.

#4 GWS - Will Hoskin-Elliot (182cm midfielder - Western Jets)

With their first three picks, the Giants should look for someone capable of breaking the lines. I would call Port's bluff and let them make the choice on Longer, because I don't think Port will pull the trigger. Hoskin-Elliot is my pick of the next group, outside the top three. He could potentially be the most damaging player in the draft, and is also the best outside player on offer. Which isn't meant in a negative way, he can play inside but he is best when able to run and link up. With skills and clean hands, he is just quality. AFL Comparison: Scott Pendlebury.

#5 GWS - Matthew Buntine (188cm defender - Dandenong)

Just because Gold Coast are no longer picking in the top 5 doesn't mean Buntine will drop. He is the exact type of player that the Giants need - there is a reason why the Suns were reportedly keen on him. Was forced to play more as a key defender in the Championships, when he wasn't injured that is, and that isn't his best position. He reads the ball really well, and his rebounding work is as good as anyone else in the draft. As a third tall / loose man, Buntine could have a real impact before eventually becoming involved in midfield rotations. AFL Comparison: Brendon Goddard.

#6 Port Adelaide - Dom Tyson (186cm midfielder - Oakleigh)

Longer is available, but Port will likely trade for a mature ruck and Lobbe has shown some nice signs. And anyway, they need that quality inside midfielder. Some players had quiet Championships, Tyson was the opposite. In a draft of small midfielders, Tyson's combination of size and skill will be highly sought after. He might not win the Grand Final sprint, but he can play pretty much whatever position you wanted and as a midfielder can make his forward to good effect. It seems GWS are very keen, but I wouldn't be taking him in the top 5. There are better, more dangerous players on offer and the Giants already have plenty of his type. AFL Comparison: Jobe Watson.

#7 GWS - Billy Longer (202cm ruckman - Northern Knights)

Their gamble pays off, as they get the ruck they want and need. Not a great draft for ruckmen, but Longer is more than deserving of a top five pick even. He does everything that is fashionable for ruckmen these days, particularly in regards to his second efforts. But more importantly he is a genuine tap ruckman. Giles will likely play as the #1 for now, so Longer could easily rotate through the forward line with Patton and Cameron. AFL Comparison: Matthew Kreuzer.

#8 Brisbane - Todd Elton (197cm forward - Dandenong)

Probably not the pick Brisbane were hoping to make, but they do have some young midfielders stepping up so that does make this one easier. Elton's Championships weren't the greatest, but since not being picked up by GWS as a 17 year old he has worked on his strength and has also played both in the ruck and down back. Despite his quiet Championships, the ability and potential is still there. He moves well for someone his size, and takes a strong mark. AFL Comparison: Drew Petrie.

#9 GWS - Liam Sumner (182cm midfielder - Sandringham)

Another pick for GWS, and they might as well just stick with the next highest rated player. Still not really sure where I sit with Sumner. Shows excellent promise as an outside midfielder / flanker, his skills are very good and he links up well. I think he needs to be fed the ball to a certain degree and doesn't exactly do the hard things all the time. That will change with time, and he will become a more well rounded player. AFL Comparison: Bryce Gibbs.

#10 GWS - Devon Smith (175cm midfielder - Geelong)

Underrated player on this board, no doubt because of his size. I've been guilty in the past of focusing too much on height as well, but sub-180cm players have been doing quite well lately. And Smith has shown the ability to not only rack up possessions in the middle, but also kick a bag up forward. That versatility coupled with his work rate should see him play a key role in a new GWS team. AFL Comparison: Liam Shiels.

#11 GWS - Taylor Adams (181cm midfielder - Geelong)

Adams has slid down the order, and realistically could go inside the top 15 particularly on the basis of his leadership. So he'll be a nice pick up for whoever gets him. Another inside midfielder, Adams was named in the U18 All Australian side this year. He is what you'd expect an inside midfielder to be, and while he might not be the fastest player going around he makes up for that with his contested work and strength. Can also go forward and have an impact there. AFL Comparison: Jimmy Bartel.

#12 Melbourne - Toby Greene (180cm midfielder - Oakleigh)

One of the real impressive players in the Championships, and his performance in his final game definitely made people take notice. Greene is a good solid midfielder, and while he may not have the versatility that others do, his work in the midfield is deserving of a first round pick. Essentially would be a quick replacement for Scully, not the same level of explosiveness but he should have a long career regardless. AFL Comparison: Matthew Boyd.

#13 GWS - Fraser McInnes (194cm defender - Perth)

Lots of potential in this kid. Apart from his height, he also has a relatively mature body and is set to debut in the seniors in the coming weeks. For a defender his size, he is pretty mobile and isn't restricted to playing on resting ruckmen and could very well play on the medium types too. He could be one to really move up in the coming months. Having said all that, he can play forward too and presents nicely on the lead. AFL Comparison: Dustin Fletcher.

#14 GWS - Andrew Boseley (194cm defender - Geelong)

Tall, lanky defender who has played on Patton with some good success this year. I originally had him pegged as a late selection, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him push up towards the first round. And now that this is the last pick for GWS for a while, I think they might reach for another KPP. He has great agility and speed for someone his size, and reads the play very well. Generally used his agility and smarts to beat his man, rather than strength. But he'll get stronger with time. AFL Comparison: Harry Taylor.

#15 Richmond - Alex Forster (189cm midfielder - Norwood)

Should definitely be a late riser in draft rankings, due in a large part to his form in the SANFL playing league football. I've been keeping a close eye on him over the past couple of months, and he impresses me more with every game he plays. Forster is another one of those running half back/midfielder types, provides good run and all that. Even at league level, his teammates feed him the ball because he just doesn't make mistakes. I think he'll find himself a nice little home playing on a wing. He also captained SA in the U16 Championships a couple of years ago. AFL Comparison: Paul Duffield.

#16 Fremantle - Elliot Kavanagh (187cm midfielder - Western Jets)

Kavanagh missed a fair chunk of the year through injury, but has since returned from his hamstring injury in great fashion. When he first returned, all the hype in the media was about him rocketing up the order but that has since died down a bit. It seems like if someone was to slip a bit, it would be him. No matter though as he is the complete midfielder and deserves a top 15 spot - reading the play, clean hands, speed and foot skills. AFL Comparison: Colin Sylvia.

#17 Western Bulldogs - Michael Talia (193cm defender - Calder)

Talia looks to be a very good defender, and if I had to take a defender for next it would probably be him. Although some of the other KPDs may have a greater scope for the future. He might be more of a first round option based on needs but Talia is a very good full back. While in the final round of the Championships showed that he can be dangerous as a ball winner too. AFL Comparison: Matthew Scarlett.

#18 North Melbourne - Brad McKenzie (188cm midfielder - Sturt)

I'd like to see North go tall, but you can never have too many classy users of the ball. Another SA midfielder, and once again he has elite foot skills. His left boot was as good as anyones in the Championships. I think he'll play across half back and the wing, although having said that his inside work is good and he should be apart of midfield rotations. He always seems to have time and space, and he uses that to set a lot of run. Also a good mark above his head. AFL Comparison: Trent McKenzie.

#19 Essendon - Daniel Markworth (189cm midfielder - Calder Cannons)

19 year old, bit of a late starter and definitely looking like he could be one of the years big bolters. His late rise is not overly surprising, given his speed and agility coupled with some clean disposal. Has played pretty much every position on the ground, just needs to now settle into one. At first, it might be as a forward but eventually he'll move into the midfield. AFL Comparison: Isaac Smith.

#20 Fremantle - Shane Kersten (191cm forward - South Fremantle)

I'm a big fan of Kersten, but will be interested to see where he drops to come draft day. I wouldn't be surprised if it was into the second round. Strong leading forward who performed well for WA last year, but missed this year due to a shoulder injury. Has everything you want from a key forward, with strong hands and being a good shot on goal. He tested very well for speed last year when trying out for GWS, but injury problems and a tendency to fade in and out could see him drop. AFL Comparison: Brendan Fevola.

#21 Sydney - F/S Tom Mitchell (181cm midfielder - Claremont)

I'd have Mitchell in my top 10, and right up there with Hoskin-Elliot. One of the best inside midfielders in the draft, was cut down by injury in the Championships but his last game in particular was great. He wins plenty of his own ball, and his foot skills are surprisingly good when he does get outside. AFL Comparison: Sam Mitchell.

#22 Carlton - Jackson Paine (193cm forward - Sandringham)

Paine is a Vic Metro forward, who showed some impressive signs in the Championships. Obviously Patton got the best defender, but Paine still took his opportunities. Not as consistent as he may have liked, as he tended to go in and out of games. But his leading and marking was strong, I imagine a few teams will like what they see with him and his potential as a tall forward. Not the FF Carlton fans may want, but a good CHF prospect - and I'm expecting he might well go in the top 15 so this would be a nice pick up. AFL Comparison: Jack Watts.

#23 West Coast - Jordan Lockyer (190cm defender - West Perth)

Not the prettiest player on offer, but strong and versatile. Lockyer is an aggressive defender, both in his attack on the ball and work against his opponent. I think he could be one of the better full backs in the league in five year's time, but also has the ability to go forward and take a strong grab. I can see him playing as the third tall forward for Collingwood, before eventually moving back. AFL Comparison: Nathan Bock.

#24 Adelaide - Hayden Crozier (184cm forward - Eastern Ranges)

Hawthorn could go any number of ways here, so I'll just go with some natural talent. The excitement machine in this year's draft, and I think everyone knows what he can do. At the moment, he may not do it enough but that doesn't really concern me. He has all the potential, and his hands and feet are already at the required level. We've seen that the skinny kids can still come in and play a role early on. A real chance to go to GWS inside the top 15. AFL Comparison: Nat Fyfe.

#25 St Kilda - Myles Bolger (201cm ruckman - South Fremantle)

Few options here for the Saints, and they could do just about anything. But with a real quality ruck prospect on the board, I think they should take him. I know the old joke is that ruckmen aren't smart, but Bolger is a smart player. He moves well and again is a very good tap ruckman, if not for injury he would be considered a strong chance for being a top 10 pick in my opinion. AFL Comparison: Robbie Warnock.

#26 Geelong - Brandon Ellis (181cm defender - Calder)

Simply the best available player for Geelong here. Tough, nuggety looking player who I'm assured will test very well athletically at the combine. He is a versatile player, and really you could play him in whatever position you wanted. Played mostly off half back, will no doubt be a part of midfield rotations too. I can see him developing into a handy small/medium defender in the mean time. AFL Comparison: Heath Shaw.

PP1 Gold Coast - Sam Docherty (183cm defender - Gippsland)

A little overrated for mine, but should be around the late first round anyway. Not originally a part of the Vic Country squad, Docherty played the final two games and was one of the best players on both occasions. He provided plenty of run off half back, although I'd like to see him improve his kicking and decision making a tad. Can get under the ball and often seems to kick to contests. His good form has continued over into his TAC Cup games, and a strong finish to the season could see him push up into the first round. AFL Comparison: Jed Adcock.

PP2 Port Adelaide - Mitch Grigg (183cm midfielder - Norwood)

I've been up and down on Grigg, and I find him to be one of the hardest to place. He is another who risen through the rankings after an impressive Championships, where he answered my biggest query - his ball winning ability. His kicking is at the elite level, and what makes that even more impressive is that he is an inside player who does all the hard things. One of those players who could come in from Round 1, despite not being the most athletic player going around. AFL Comparison: Nic Suban.

PP3 Brisbane - Shane Nelson (178cm midfielder - West Perth)

Brisbane went tall with their first pick, and will likely now go for a midfielder. And they get a good one, who could go much earlier and can play both inside and outside. Another small midfielder, but again a real ball winner. Although he performed well at the combine, I see him more as a solid player rather one with real stand out features. Don't take that as a bad thing though, he has the versatility to play wherever and will find the ball wherever he goes. AFL Comparison: Andrew Swallow.

CP Brisbane - Cameron Ellis-Yolmen (191cm midfielder - Woodville West Torrens)

Underrated player around these parts, don't think he has really been mentioned at all. At just 18 he is 191cm and 88kg, great size for a midfielder considering most are generally short in this draft class. Only played 1 game for SA in the Championships, and was quite good. In the U18 competition in the SANFL, he is averaging nearly 30 touches and 5 clearances a game. Strong tackler, good above his head and a real creative player. Hopefully it wont be long until his ranking starts to climb. AFL Comparison: Anthony Morabito.

Round 2

#27 GWS - Josh Waldhuter (184cm midfielder - Central Districts)

After bumping Waldhuter up the rankings a bit, I think I've successfully hyped him up and can now put him back to a more realistic 25-30 range. Waldhuter is as inside as they come in this draft. Highly rated SA midfielder, but was overshadowed by Grigg in the Championships. He is a tough midfielder and a very good kick, but he also has a decent turn of speed. Outside of the top few, Waldhuter is likely to have the most immediate impact. AFL Comparison: Brent Moloney.

#28 Gold Coast - Clay Smith (180cm midfielder - Gippsland)

An inside midfielder, who is particularly strong in the clearances. Smith has been a fixture in the best players for Gippsland over the past couple of seasons, and continued that into the U18 Championships this year. In addition to impressive showings in the midfield, Smith also went forward where he put his tackling to good use in keeping the ball inside their forward line. Could very well go higher than this. AFL Comparison: Kieran Jack.

#29 Port Adelaide - Jackson Merrett (187cm midfielder - Geelong)

Vic Country and Geelong Falcon midfielder, who has been overshadowed by some of his teammates so far in regards to draft talk. In a draft full of smaller midfielders, Merrett has a real chance of working his way up the order, and from all reports he should impress in interviews. Is a versatile player who can play both inside and outside, and is a genuine ball winner. AFL Comparison: David Mundy.

#30 Brisbane - Brody Mihocek (191cm defender - Burnie)

My favourite of the Tasmanians, and one of the better prospects for a number of years to come out Tasmania. Ideally he would grow a few more centimetres, but he is already a strong contested mark for his size. There isn't much I don't like about Mihocek - strong body, good kick and an impressive athlete. He is also capable of playing forward, and has done it a number of times to good success. AFL Comparison: Jarrad Waite.

#31 Adelaide - Adam Tomlinson (192cm defender - Oakleigh Chargers)

Another tall defender, but again like the others he has shown more potential than consistent performances. This seems to be a trend amongst KPDs, so it's a matter of finding traits that you can work with. Tomlinson has shown the ability to rack up the ball, as well as play more defensive roles. He has also been in the state and AIS fold for a few years now. AFL Comparison: Ryan Hargrave.

#32 Melbourne - Julian Dobosz (193cm forward - North Hobart)

Full forward from Tasmania, and he has gotten a bit of attention lately with some people in the media suggesting he will be a first round pick. I'm not really sure about that at this stage, but there is plenty to work with. Still relatively new to the game, but has kicked bags in both the Championships and back home. AFL Comparison: Taylor Walker.

#33 Richmond - Tom Downie (205cm ruckman - North Ballarat)

Pretty obvious that Richmond will be trading for a mature ruck this year, but even with that they don't have anyone with talent to develop. Their young rucks will be nothing but solid at best. Downie hasn't played a heap of football, other than at school, because of basketball commitments. From the limited vision I have seen of him, you can see the natural talent and potential in him. AFL Comparison: Zac Clarke.

#34 Fremantle - Brendon AhChee (190cm midfielder - South Fremantle)

Really interesting prospect, and another one of my favourites. Involved in the Flying Boomerangs program which is focused on personal and leadership development, AhChee only played the one game in the U18 Championships. By my count he only had about four touches in that game, but the talent is there and he his Colts form has improved since returning. Has played as an undersized ruckman during his junior football, and his size and running ability makes him a really attractive project on the wing. I think he could develop into a special player. AFL Comparison: Harley Bennell.

#35 Western Bulldogs - Sam Frost (193cm defender - Sandringham)

A lot like Tomlinson, and he had a real breakout performance in the Championships where he used his athleticism to great effect on the rebound. Frost has a lot of potential, both as an attacking defender and up forward. Has a background in both basketball and volleyball, like so many young players seem to have. AFL Comparison: Luke McPharlin.

#36 North Melbourne - Thomas Sheridan (185cm midfielder - Calder)

Sheridan is another midfielder who could find his draft stocks increasing with a good couple of months. He is a really hard running player, and his aerobic capacity would already be right up there with current AFL players. With that, he is able to work hard both offensively and defensively. His kicking needs to improve if he is to really hurt teams consistently. AFL Comparison: Matt Rosa.

#37 Essendon - Sam Kerridge (188cm midfielder - Bendigo)

Kerridge is a versatile and talented midfielder, who can play both inside and head up forward too. Captain of Bendigo and a member of the AIS Academy, he'll be looking for a strong finish to the season to cement his position in the draft. I imagine he may need a season or two to fully develop and push for selection. AFL Comparison: Michael Rischitelli.

#38 St Kilda - Henry Schade (194cm defender - North Hobart)

There are more well known names on the board here, but I wanted to go for a tall here and I can see a team liking what they see in Schade. And why wouldn't they? Is a big guy, but has pretty good speed and can run the ball out of the back lines. Also has a very nice kick on him, so will be more than just a body out there. AFL Comparison: Brian Lake.

#39 Sydney - Marley Williams (181cm midfielder - Claremont)

Another kid who I probably rate a little more than others might. He is a strongly built midfielder/forward, but does have an impressive turn of speed. There is no denying he has natural talent, and there was one play in particular during the Championships against SA which they showed this - one handed contested mark, followed by a 55m goal off one step. I can see him debuting early, just needs to keep putting in the work. AFL Comparison: Michael Walters.

#40 Carlton - Nic Haynes (191cm midfielder - Dandenong)

Another 19 year old, but a big improver this year despite still being relatively skinny. Lots to like about him, nice size and just a matter of time until he starts to fill out a bit more. Can play as either an outside midfielder or a hit up half forward. Some suggest he could be a first rounder, but somewhere around the second round seems good to me. AFL Comparison: Kieran Harper.

#41 West Coast - Murray Newman (177cm forward - Swan Districts)

Another favourite of mine, and one of the top small forwards in the draft in my opinion. Newman played one game in the Colts prior to the Championships this year, kicked 6 goals and got himself a league debut the next week. Impressive for someone his age and size. Can also run through the midfield, and his ability to find space and use the ball is a highlight. AFL Comparison: Allen Christensen.

#42 Hawthorn - Jordan Kelly (191cm defender - Dandenong)

Apparently North haven't given up on Hansen yet, so I avoided going taller although I wanted to. Bit of an interesting player is Kelly. Although he is 191cm, he isn't really big enough to play as a KPP. That isn't to say he wont be developed into one, but at this stage he has played primarily running roles down back. He moves really well, so there is a lot to work with as a potential CHB. AFL Comparison: Sam Fisher.

#43 Collingwood - Jack Crisp (189cm forward - Murray Bushrangers)

Doesn't have the biggest profile, but an easy player to like. I don't think the second round would be out of the equation for him come draft day. Lots to like about Crisp up forward, strong mark above his head and can kick a decent ball too. It wouldn't surprise me if Crisp was to get an early debut, particularly as his defensive work as a forward is already right where it needs to be. AFL Comparison: Chris Mayne.

#44 Geelong - Michael Bussey (196cm forward - Eastern Ranges)

Geelong can pretty much do what they want here. Bussey can play down back (I actually prefer him down there) but most of his work for Metro and the AIS has been up forward. He needs a season or two to really fill out, but he has had some impressive showings already. With the way the game is played at the moment, he'll be expected to run through the ruck at times and while he can do it, he is a KPP first. AFL Comparison: Lachie Henderson.

Round 3

#45 GWS - Steven Verrier (188cm midfielder - South Fremantle)

Played for WA in the U18 Championships, and has made a league debut back home in the WAFL. Not the most productive player going around, but he has shown signs of being a special player. Has good speed, no problems with his disposal and looks to be a smart player. Will be one of those players who likely rotates through a number of different positions. AFL Comparison: Garrick Ibbotson.

#46 Gold Coast - Max Duffy (189cm forward - East Fremantle)

Talented medium forward, who was invited to the draft combine last year for GWS to get a look at him. He has had a few problems in the WAFL, and probably hasn't come on as far I would have expected. But he is a smart forward/midfielder and will add a bit of that unpredictability. AFL Comparison: Steve Johnson.

#47 Port Adelaide - Steve Rusca (182cm defender - Central Districts)

Port have a few running half backs, but having said that most of them are capable of rotating through the midfield - and Rusca is no different. Rusca is a really good fit for a team like Port, tough player who you would think is a lot older than what he is. Just doesn't make many mistakes. AFL Comparison: Heath Scotland.

#48 Brisbane - Elliot Yeo (188cm midfielder - East Fremantle)

For all the talk of a shallow draft, there are still some nice prospects and Yeo is one of them. Good all round midfielder who is particularly strong athletically, can do the odd special thing too. Still only 17, Yeo is averaging well over 20 touches a game in the Colts and has a strong defensive side to his game as well. AFL Comparison: Daniel Menzel.

#49 Adelaide - Tom Curran (195cm forward - Oakleigh)

So Hawthorn wont be taking Curran as a F/S selection. Interesting decision, personally I would have taken him for now and checked out what the other clubs would bid for him - Hawthorn could have had a bargain. But anyway, he'll get drafted and I think will stay around the second and third round mark. Not the quickest big man going around, but he is a good size and has performed well at either end of the ground. AFL Comparison: Lachie Hansen.

#50 Melbourne - Josh Tynan (184cm defender - Gippsland)

Really strong and composed player, Tynan made the half back line his home during the Championships. Tynan could become a solid small defender, and his contested ball work is up there with the best in the draft. But he is also a strong mark, and wont back down from a contest. Whether he develops into anything more than a solid defender is the question. AFL Comparison: Jacob Surjan.

#51 Richmond - Bradley Hill (180cm midfielder - West Perth)

Really don't know where to place Hill in the draft. His standing seems to have improved, but I'm not going to crazy on the basis of his combine results alone because he has a long way to go. Bradley doesn't have the same raw talent of Stephen, but has some similar traits and can go inside too. His ball winning has improved as the season has progressed, a greater impact on the scoreboard would help his prospects though. AFL Comparison: Jared Petrenko.

#52 Fremantle - Jordan Wilson (179cm defender - Darwin/North Adelaide)

I'd look at Wilson if I were GWS, but I think they'll only use so many zone selections and Wilson would probably be the one to miss. Has been splitting his time between the NT side, North Adelaide and school football. Playing as a small defender, Wilson is extremely composed down back and always seems to make the right decision. Just a really clean and smart footballer. AFL Comparison: Roger Hayden.

#53 Western Bulldogs - Jai Sheahan (195cm forward - Geelong)

Yet another player who was invited to the combine last year by GWS, he impressed by coming second in the handball test. Jai has also spent time playing in the ruck, which has helped to improve his athletic ability. As a forward, he is a strong marking mobile type, but also a proven goal kicker in the TAC Cup. Being as strong athletically as he is, he could definitely work his way up into the second round. AFL Comparison: Sam Reid.

#54 North Melbourne - Sam Gordon (197cm forward - Geelong)

There is a lot to like with Gordon, he will likely push the 200cm mark and his attack on the ball is really good. More importantly though, is his marking and work in one-on-one situations which is improving with every game. Kicking on goal can still be hit and miss, one day will kick 5.0 then the next will kick 1.4. AFL Comparison: Kurt Tippett.

#55 Essendon - Jason Williams (187cm midfielder - Calder Cannons)

I can see someone taking a shot on Williams earlier than this because of the potential, even though his performances this year may not exactly deserve it. At his best, Williams is an attacking player who loves to carry the ball and carve through the opposition. But having said that, he could be passed on as consistency is a huge issue and he tends to make quite large mistakes on a regular basis. AFL Comparison: Brett Peake.

#57 St Kilda - Jack Newnes (184cm midfielder - Northern Knights)

Medium midfielder, and another one who tried out for GWS at the Combine last year. While he obviously didn't get picked up, he did score a top five finish in the 3km time trial. Newnes is just a really composed midfielder, who can go forward and is an accurate shot on goal. He wont stop running, but he isn't the quickest or strongest player going around. AFL Comparison: Nathan van Berlo.

#56 Sydney - Lachlan Dalgleish (185cm midfielder - North Ballarat)

I said he was a midfielder, but he has played just as much across half forward and given what he has shown up forward I could easily have called him that. Excellent speed and has run competitively. Will be an interesting player to watch, potentially more of an athlete and teams have been moving away from those types lately. But there is plenty of interest in him. AFL Comparison: Ricky Henderson.

#58 Carlton - Lachlan Edwards (187cm forward - Geelong)

An interesting player, and confidence will never be an issue with Edwards. Has played all around the ground, from half back to the midfield and up forward. And as a forward is where he'll likely make his career. Likes to do the freakish, but is also quite unselfish too. But he has talent, and is a goal kicker. Someone will take him and force him to develop a defensive game. AFL Comparison: Daniel Motlop.

#59 West Coast - Jimmy Webster (186cm midfielder - Glenorchy)

Speedy winger from Tasmania, who isn't afraid to take the game on when he has the ball. Another AIS member and although his form this year hasn't been what was maybe expected, he has a lot of potential and natural talent. Could easily push up into the second round, especially if a team is looking to inject some more run into their side. AFL Comparison: Clinton Young.

#60 Hawthorn - Cam Eardley (182cm midfielder - East Fremantle)

Midfielder from WA, but when he played in the Championships it was often in the back lines. And he did that well, especially in one game when Lockyer went down injured. But all that just highlights the defensive side of his game. He wins plenty of the ball offensively too, and isn't afraid to get involved in the physical stuff. AFL Comparison: Alex Fasolo.

#61 Collingwood - Fletcher Roberts (195cm forward - Sandringham)

Big guy who can play a number of positions, tall forward pinch-hitting in the ruck if needed seems like his go at AFL level. Although he will need to improve his strength a bit for that to happen. He does use his body well, but that extra bit of strength will go a long way. Is inconsistent, and will go from best on ground to nothing in the space of a week. I have him as a late selection, although a team could take the punt early especially if they only have the minimum numbers of selections. AFL Comparison: Liam Jones.

#62 Geelong - Sebastian Ross (187cm midfielder - North Ballarat)

Didn't feature for Vic Country in underage football before this year, but Ross is a hard worker and has taken his opportunities this season. Has played a fair bit as a medium forward, but also worked further up the ground and he links up well. I like him up the ground, so he can use his foot skills to deliver inside fifty. AFL Comparison: Matthew Bate.

Round 4

#63 Collingwood - Matthew Jacquier (188cm forward - Woodville)

Jacquier is another forward who was invited to the combine last year by GWS, but ultimately missed selection. And again like others, his form this year hasn't been quite as good as what was maybe expected. He is a medium forward with good skills and a strong set of hands. Has the ability to play both tall and small, and he has played both at CHF and as a crumbing small. AFL Comparison: Andrew Walker.

#64 Gold Coast - Xavier Richards (194cm defender - Sandringham)

Again just like Tomlinson and Frost, Richards is more in the frame based on his ability than consistency. The positives for Xavier are definitely his size, and from all reports he might still a little bit left in him. But also his attack on both the ball and player, and his tackling was a feature in the U18s. Is agile enough and has a good set of hands on him. I like him as a defender, but you could easily develop him at either end of the ground. AFL Comparison: Heath Grundy.

#65 Port Adelaide - Aseri Raikiwasa (191cm defender - Port Adelaide)

One of my favourite defensive prospects in the draft, but is more of a late selection. He has been working with the another Fijian defender in Alipate Carlile. And when it comes to Aseri you can guarantee that nobody will be working harder to make it. He performed strongly for SA, and has already become a leader on the field. He has a great build, so development will likely be about defensive work as opposed to strength. AFL Comparison: Chad Cornes.

#66 Brisbane - Lewis Hender (187cm forward - Glenelg)

Hender had a breakthrough performance in the Championships last year, but his games this season perhaps weren't at that same standard. Hender has debuted for Glenelg, and is already a good size for a forward. Can be used as a CHF type, also has enough tricks as that third tall forward. While he will also likely compete from Round 1. AFL Comparison: Stewart Crameri.

#67 Adelaide - Cameron Shenton (187cm forward - Norwood)

20 year old forward, and he has some real x-factor. With Gunston likely on the move, Adelaide will likely be looking for another third tall forward type and I think Shenton could be that guy. Excellent set of hands, good speed and definitely knows where the goals are. He needs to work on his consistency, because the talent is there. AFL Comparison: Patrick Karnezis.

#68 Melbourne - Nic O'Brien (189cm forward - North Ballarat)

Not the most exciting player going around, but a good player nonetheless. Playing as a high half forward, he presents well, has a very strong set of hands and wont stop running all day. Captain of North Ballarat, and he can push up into the midfield too. I doubt he'll ever win awards, but the clubs fan will like him. As will the coaching staff, as they'll know they have a real leader. AFL Comparison: Danny Stanley.

#69 Richmond - Jackson Coleman (196cm forward - Sandringham)

Looked like Coleman was going to choose cricket at one stage as he played for Australia in the U19 World Cup last year, but he has since been invited to the Draft Combine. Big forward and part time ruckman, he is strong overhead and has kicked a heap of goals this year. Could find himself in second round contention. AFL Comparison: Jarryd Roughead.

#70 Fremantle - Nathan Blee (192cm defender - East Perth)

21 year old defender from the WAFL, not a real big body but a good defender nonetheless. Is a really nice prospect, uses his speed well while defending on the lead and is strength and positioning allows himself to compete in one-on-one contests. Could also be freed up to use his run in setting up play from the back half. AFL Comparison: Ben Stratton.

#71 Western Bulldogs - Alex Woodward (179cm midfielder - Sandringham)

Interesting player is Woodward. Just a little guy, but is a strong tackler and seems to have the knack for being able to stand up in tackles. Has very clean hands in traffic, and for a small guy has a big leap and strong set of hands. Testing at the combine also showed a decent turn of speed. Had some knee concerns as a 16 year old. AFL Comparison: Cruize Garlett.

#72 North Melbourne - Michael Mascoulis (187cm midfielder - Northern Knights)

Bit of a trend in this draft that players are really good in parts of their game, but there is just something that lets them down. Mascoulis is a really talented player, very agile and attacking runner. Is the type of player who can quickly turn a game on it's head, playing off either a wing or half back. The only reason he is this low is because of consistency. Don't be surprised if he goes earlier based on talent. AFL Comparison: Grant Birchall.

#73 Essendon - Jack Charleston (177cm forward - Western Jets)

Just a small player, but Charleston is a consistent player for the Jets. Is more of a natural half forward, as opposed to small midfielders who make the switch at AFL level. But he can go further up the ground too. In a player his size you want someone with pace and more courage than someone that size should realistically have. And Charleston has both of them. AFL Comparison: Simon Phillips.

#74 St Kilda - Jordan Murdoch (189cm forward - Glenelg)

I was a little surprised to see that Murdoch got a Draft Combine invite, thought he would be more of a state screening candidate. But I like him anyway, and he is a bit of a deceiving player in my opinion. Whenever I see him I think he is just a big lump of a kid, but he actually moves well for someone with his body type and would be an option around the CHF spot. Very quick and very underrated. Look out for his brother next year too. AFL Comparison: Aaron Edwards.

#75 Sydney - Luke Wilson (174cm forward - Port Adelaide)

One of the smallest players in the SA squad, Wilson is the cousin of Danyle Pearce and isn't too dissimilar. Aside from a couple of reserves games, Wilson has primarily played U18 football for Port Adelaide and won a Rising Star nomination earlier this year. Very clean hands, coupled with his speed and natural ability, makes him an exciting prospect in the forward half. AFL Comparison: Jeff Garlett.

#76 Carlton - F/S Dylan Buckley (178cm midfielder - Northern Knights)

I still think his range is closer to Carlton's second round pick, but I'm sticking with him here. Like Kersten he has missed time this year through injury, but he has shown enough promise in his short career so far. I question whether he will be anything more than a flanker, but Carlton are set on him and someone will force them to use a first rounder. AFL Comparison: David Mackay.

#77 West Coast - Waylen Manson (195cm forward - Claremont/Kururrungku)

Now that it is confirmed that Manson has nominated for the draft, I figure I should include him because he will likely get picked up. But I find it hard to put someone I have seen no footage of into the first round. I'm sure everyone knows of his talent, the question is how he will adapt especially considering how long it took Claremont to get him down to Perth. AFL Comparison: Liam Jurrah.

#78 Hawthorn - Piva Wright (189cm defender - Dandenong)

Really interesting player is Wright. I rate him as the second best pure defender on offer, his one-on-one work and spoiling is impressive. But his mobility, work around the ground and ball winning ability has been a real surprise for my this year. Initially I expected that he would drop due to his size, but the versatility he has shown should hopefully put him back up there. AFL Comparison: Michael Firrito.

#79 Collingwood - NSW Scholarship Jarrod Witts (207cm ruckman - Sydney Uni)

Collingwood have a F/S they could pick, but with a couple of NSW Scholarship players on offer I think they will pass on Starcevich. Most people would know about Witts, as Collingwood fans are quick to proclaim him as the next big thing. His tap work, marking and work around the ground are all improving but I question how much of that is just him being so much bigger than everyone else. I'll be interested to see how he goes at an AFL club and playing in the VFL, I can see him being a solid but not overly special player. AFL Comparison: Andrew Browne.

#80 Geelong - F/S Jed Bews (181cm defender - Geelong)

Father-son option for Geelong, and should get drafted. Can imagine some teams forcing Geelong to use their third rounder, especially because Bews will probably impress at the combine with his athleticism. Type of player who hangs around the back of the play, which isn't a bad thing because the coach will want the ball in his hands. AFL Comparison: Rhyce Shaw.

Rookie Draft

#1 GWS - Ben Gazzola (196cm forward - Norwood)

Was considering a couple of tall forwards from the SANFL, and decided to go for the most interesting. Is 21 years old, but only in his first season of SANFL football after being recommended to Norwood coach Bassett by Mark Ricciuto. Another former basketball player, Gazzola has only played the one league game after spending most of the year in the reserves. But he is a big strong guy, with excellent athleticism and he will be looking to stand out at the state screening in Adelaide. AFL Comparison: Chris Dawes.

#2 Gold Coast - Chad Sandilands (204cm ruckman - East Fremantle)

Yes, he is the brother of Aaron Sandilands. A very raw prospect, should only be taken in the rookie draft as it will be a long time until he is AFL ready. Played Colts football this season, finished with lots of hit outs but basically nothing around the ground. So a bit like an early Aaron really. Not sure he'll ever fill out like his older brother, but he got an invite to the WA state screening and should at the very least be interesting to watch develop. AFL Comparison: Max Gawn.

#3 Port Adelaide - Thomas Schwarz (184cm midfielder - Woodville West Torrens)

Port might not take him as a F/S, but in the rookie draft they might as well give him a shot. And I imagine that is why they aren't nominating him, because he is more of a rookie prospect. As an inside midfielder, Schwarz has shown promising signs and is a real ball winner. He is a good size, especially for a midfielder in this draft. AFL Comparison: Shane Tuck.

#4 Brisbane - Leif Cope (205cm ruckman - Eastern Ranges)

Without a lot of ruck depth on their list, I'd expect Brisbane to look at a couple of rucks towards with their late picks and in the rookie draft. Cope was around the mark last year as a speculative ruck pick, and he is in the same position this year as a 19 year old. He has shown signs of improvement, and it does look like there is more to come too. AFL Comparison: Max Bailey.

#5 Adelaide - Justin Clarke (195cm defender - Booleroo, Melrose, Wilmington)

I suppose this kid would be the Waylen Manson of South Australia. Tall 17 year old playing CHB in the Northern Areas Football Association, very much a country boy. North Adelaide have been trying to get him out to play SANFL, but he only came down for one reserves game as he has preferred to focus on his school and work on the farm. I was up in Orroroo about 6 weeks ago and I heard from a couple of locals at the football about this kid that had interest from the AFL. Forgot all about him, until there was a story on him in the newspaper a couple of weeks back where they said scouts from up to 8 teams took the three hour drive to see him play. Definitely a prospect to watch given the lack of standout features in the games of other KPPs going around. AFL Comparison: Peter Faulks.

#6 Melbourne - Jason Nyskohus (179cm midfielder - Port Adelaide)

Some people might recognise the name, apparently his uncles have played soccer for Australia. But Jason has taken the smart route, and played real football. Midfielder/half back who is one of the better tacklers in the SANFL, also has a decent turn of speed. Has a neat right foot, although he tends to put a bit too much air on his kicks. Nice looking player, and should have plenty of room for growth. AFL Comparison: Luke Dahlhaus.

#7 Richmond - Kyal Horsley (182cm midfielder - Subiaco)

I don't think it would be a bad idea for Richmond to look at another mature aged midfielder, and as foot skills seem to be the order of the day, that leaves 23 year old Horsley. Like Broughton and Mzungu before him, a move into the midfield this year has paid off big time for Horsley as he is averaging a career high 24 touches a game while his tackle count has rocketed up too. His left boot gets him a shot ahead of some other more well known mature prospects. AFL Comparison: Greg Broughton.

#8 Fremantle - Tom Lee (194cm forward - Claremont)

Athletically gifted 20 year old tall forward, Lee was initially drafted by Adelaide as a project player but was dumped after just one year. Was always going to be a good 2-3 years before he started showing what he can do, and he is doing that for Claremont this year. Although his form has dropped off, he has shown good signs as a strong marking forward. Needs to have more of an impact on the scoreboard, but the potential is definitely still there. AFL Comparison: Scott Gumbleton.

#9 Western Bulldogs - Daniel Joseph (184cm midfielder - Glenorchy)

Time for another Tasmanian and Joseph edges out Riley, McKenzie and a couple of mature aged players to be the last Tasmanian taken in my draft. Joseph has the individual skills to be an AFL player, seems to be a smart player with decent skills. It's traits like that which will have teams feeling like he can be developed into a good player, or solid depth at the least. AFL Comparison: Sam Sheldon.

#10 North Melbourne - Peter Persinos (170cm forward - Norwood)

Player I've been keen on for a while, but wasn't 100% sure if he was eligible this year or not. Have seen him go around in the U18s in the SANFL for a few years now, and has made his way into the seniors for Norwood too. He is only a small guy, but he uses the ball really well and is quick. Has the knack for finding the goals from seemingly anywhere. Little surprised there hasn't been more talk about him, didn't even get a state screening invite it seems. AFL Comparison: Jarryd Blair.

#11 Essendon - Haydn Busher (193cm defender - Perth)

20 year old KPP from Perth, I would have been tempted to rookie list him in the past two drafts. In his draft year, Busher was named at CHB in the Colts team of the year. Took a while to break out of Colts level, but since then he has been a regular in the Perth league team playing both up forward (25 goals this year) and down back. Strong player and a solid book end type. AFL Comparison: Alex Silvagni.

#12 St Kilda - Ben Brown (198cm ruckman - Glenorchy)

A knee injury probably cost him getting drafted last year, but the 19 year old ruckman has continued on his way this season and looks set to be drafted - could even be though a GWS trade. One of those modern ruckmen who works hard on the ground, and is a good mark so can go forward with success. His size and versatility could well see him go quite early. AFL Comparison: Justin Koschitzke.

#13 Sydney - Ross Tungatulum (178cm forward - NT Thunder/Tiwi Islands)

Former St Kilda rookie who has gone back to the NT and absolutely dominated the competition. The guy is certainly talented, and for a midfielder he really knows the goals are. The problem will be getting him back down and keeping him there. I imagine if he was to get picked again, it will probably be as a rookie to minimise the risk. I know Ross has his fans on BigFooty, and I hope he gets another shot. AFL Comparison: Andrew Krakouer.

#14 Carlton - Travis Tuck (187cm midfielder - Werribee)

Almost a forgotten man when it comes to mature aged players, but on talent alone is one of the best. Has had his problems which I wont bother going into, also had some injury issues at the start of the year. But Tuck has really proven himself in the second half of the season at Werribee, and he is now one of their best players. Strong, inside midfielder who will do the team things and crash the packs. AFL Comparison: Travis Tuck.

#15 West Coast - Freddie Clutterbuck (182cm midfielder - East Perth)

20 year old midfielder from the WAFL, there is more to like about him than just his name. A lack of speed was probably the thing that has kept him out of the AFL so far, but good players can overcome that. Clutterbuck is a ball winner, and can have an impact on the scoreboard. At the very least, I'd expect him to be rookie listed. AFL Comparison: Michael Barlow.

#16 Hawthorn - Kory Beard (194cm defender - Port Adelaide)

Big, strong 21 year old defender from the SANFL. Kory was invited to the SA state screening last year and has trained with the Power a couple of times before, but he has really stepped up his game playing in the back lines this year. Excellent mark and has a good understanding of the game, can also zone off his man and provide another rebounding option. AFL Comparison: Heath Grundy.

#17 Collingwood - Jordan Staley (194cm forward - Gippsland)

Really nice prospect is Staley. The problem is that he has been playing in the ruck for Gippsland, and with his height that isn't going to happen at AFL level. But he is already a very strong mark and a booming kick, and his time in the ruck has let him develop his running game. Just needs a season or two playing as a genuine full forward, and he could be a nice player. AFL Comparison: Jordan Lisle.

#18 Geelong - Tom Langford (193cm forward - Norwood)

19 year old kid from Nowood, who doesn't exactly have a big profile. Was part of the initial U18 SA squad last year, but missed the final cut. And instead has just been going about his football quietly with Norwood. Averaged 2 goals a game in the reserves this year, and recently made his senior debut. Has very strong hands and a big tank for a key forward, looms as a nice project in my opinion. AFL Comparison: Lewis Johnston.

Thought I would add in some zone selections, considering some of the guys who are eligible to go to GWS would feature in my draft. Previously I had just left them out, but figured they should be included. I don't know if there are limits to the numbers or anything, so I just stuck with 3 from NSW and 3 from NT.

NSW/ACT - Marcus Crook (185cm defender - Ainslie)

Mature aged guy out of Canberra, who played for GWS in the NAB Cup this year. He played well for them earlier in the year, and has continued with his good form in the NEAFL including a best on ground performance in the Eastern Conference grand final. Attacking half back who can play further up the field, has a good turn of speed and great foot skills. Even if GWS doesn't take him, someone will.

NSW/ACT - Harry Cunningham (181cm midfielder - Turvey Park)

Only eligible for this draft by about three weeks, Cunningham is one of the top two players out of NSW this year in my opinion. Another quick midfielder, he has had a few different injuries over the years but he has been playing good football this year including some time with GWS as a top up player.

NSW/ACT - Sam Milne (176cm midfielder - Murray Bushrangers)

Just a small kid, but the best prospect out of NSW this year and I would have him in the 20-30 range on the open market. A fearless inside midfielder who does all the hard things and rarely wastes a disposal, he is just exactly what you want from a young player. Would be the perfect player to learn from the likes of Scully, Ward and Palmer.

NT - Kelvin Williams (189cm defender - Darwin)

With Damian Williams and Curtly Hampton already at the club, GWS can add to their NT talent here. Kelvin Williams is a nice size for a defender and is one of only a few NT kids to get invites to the Draft Combine. Can play on both smalls and talls, and is just a smart player who reads the ball well.

NT - Louis Eggar (184cm midfielder - Federal)

Probably my favourite of the NT kids on offer this year, and he has had interest from a number of clubs. Don't quite know what it is about him that I like, but he is just a really good all round talent. Can't fault him athletically, but it's probably the fact that he is tough at the contest which is his greatest strength.

NT - Gibson Turner (178cm forward - Federal)

Turner is another one of those who has been splitting his playing time between the NT, Glenelg and school football as he is living in Adelaide for his schooling. Really skillful player with again some real speed, he is a smart player up forward and leads really well. Showed in the U18 Championships and in U18 football for Glenelg that he knows how to kick a goal.

GWS Pre-listed Players

Adam Kennedy (180cm midfielder - Western Jets)

19 year old who was overlooked last year, but has gone back to the Jets and improved his game in a number of areas. Quick, but powerfully built, midfielder who has played more across half back this year. He's a really composed, smart player and just doesn't seem to make many mistakes. Plus the kid is a natural leader. A number of clubs were looking at him last year, Adelaide being one. AFL Comparison: Cameron Bruce.

Luke Brown (181cm midfielder - Norwood)

The past few months all the talk has been about GWS picking him up, and now it seems like they will do so and keep him for themselves. Rebounding half back / midfielder, was overlooked last year but has improved out of sight in Bassett's Norwood football factory. Still only 19 years old, so really isn't any older than the rest of the picks. His attack off half back is great to watch. I'm a big wrap for this kid, think he could prove to be a bit of a steal. AFL Comparison: Graham Johncock.

Steve Morris (185cm defender - West Adelaide)

All the talk is of GWS pre-listing him, and trading him to Port Adelaide, so he gets included here now. Morris is a 22 year old defender from the SANFL who has recovered from a knee injury in 2009, he reads the ball really well and helps out as a third man up. He also has excellent speed which makes him a really dangerous rebounding option. As a genuine ball winner, he could push up to the wing and use his speed further up the ground. He can play shorter than what he is. AFL Comparison: Paul Puopolo.

Jamie Elliot (175cm forward - Murray Bushrangers)

19 year old small forward, generally plays bigger than what he actually is - strong body, good mark and tackler. Just a nice player all round. Probably would have been looking at the later rounds on the open market. AFL Comparison: Jason Porplyzia.

Marty Clarke (181cm defender - Collingwood)

I never quite understood the hype around him, think Malthouse's criticisms were pretty accurate to be honest. But I do understand Collingwood completing this trade, if a former player is to return it might as well be to his old club.

Terry Milera (185cm midfielder - Port Adelaide)

Another mature aged player from the SANFL, Milera is a 23 year old midfielder who was considered a rookie chance last year. But he has had a bit of a breakout year this season, as an outside midfielder and someone should give him a shot this time around. Needs to continue to improve on his strength, but as an outside runner he is exactly what you want. AFL Comparison: Lewis Jetta.

Ahmed Saad (175cm forward - Northern Bullants)

Been around for a while, often gets talked about as a rookie chance but this year he has really stepped up and a great draft combine made him a certain pre-listing. Quick, but also a strong player. Saad will no doubt step in early, might not be a 22 game player straight up and will take some time to get up to AFL standard, but should make himself a nice career. AFL Comparison: Stephen Milne.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

im starting to realise how poor this draft is compared to last.

sparse quality after pick 7.

i like the little ive heard about liam sumner. why would waldhuter go at 10?? doesnt seem to find alot of the ball off the hbf for sa so far in these champs. with out seeing waldhuter does he look much better than other strong mids that showed early but dropped off before the 2010 draft ie, mitch hallahan, parker, fasola etc..

i can see few elite selwood/ dusty martin/ trengove type mids in that group. only coniglio and wingard.. is their such a big gap between them and the next group as i think??

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

I would think that out of Port, Crows, and Lions only the lions would target a forward? Port and Crows will be looking for quality young mids.

If the lions sign Rich back on they will go tall...Elton seems a likely pick if GWS dont pick him. If Rich walks out then we will be forced (depending on trades) to go for a mid

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Sam Mayes isn't eligible this year.

im starting to realise how poor this draft is compared to last.

I'm not going to say it's a poor draft quite yet, but it is different to previous years. As Ysaye pointed out on the Fremantle board, there aren't a great deal of tall midfielders. Some of the better midfield prospects at this stage are quite small, so will be interesting to see what happens there.

Also, for me at least, some of the better draft prospects aren't what you would consider genuine midfielders. A few flankers and forwards who have potential. I had doubts over Heppell last year though, so that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Great effort Chris25!

I think the top 3 look set in stone and GWS would be hoping Billy Longer doesn't get picked up with pick 4.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

GWS won't be worried about that if GC finish last because the last thing they need is another good young ruckman, they have enough of them already.

If Port finished last, or if Brisbane lost Clark and finished last, then they'd be much more worried IMO.

I agree that the top 3 are largely set in stone however GWS might be tempted to move on Longer because they don't a Zac Smith quality presently sitting on their books. Certainly one, if not two ruckmen in the top 10 or so would seem fairly likely that they would want.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Great effort to get some names out there early Chris. Always interesting to see how the ratings fluctuate from here, through the champs and after the combine. Will watch how your phantom's evolve with interest.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

For anyone saying this is a weak draft you have to remember GWS already signed some top quality players as 17 year olds last year (Shiel,Treloar,Hampton,Cameron,Golds) all would be possible first round draftees and Shiel I think would've been a top 3 pick.

They should've signed Todd Elton as a 17 year old, still don't understand why they passed on him.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Why do you think at this very early stage he would be the Pick for Collingwood?

Because, I always have a kid from the NT in my mock drafts. And well, out of him and Bussey I figured Collingwood would be more likely to take the small. There wasn't a great deal of thought behind it.

But anyway, GWS have zoned access to eligible players from the NT over the next three years. So really, Egger will probably head to the Giants along with Anderson, McLean and Wilson.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

I agree with that, judging by his performances early in the champs I'd have him as a certain top 15 pick (and likely top 10) but I keep asking myself, if GWS passed on him when they had the chance, will they actually take him now?

Having said that I'm probably biased because I'd like someone that good to fall to 25/26 :D

That said, they'll still do well with Patton, Longer and probably Bolger.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

I believe Elton might have been passed on because of doubts about which position he would settle at. I seem to remember an article that said something about GWS not having enough vision of him playing as a KPP up forward or down back. His strength has improved and he has shown promising signs up forward, so there is no reason why GWS wouldn't look at him again.

Just remember, that while it may look like they should have signed him as a 17 year old, the same thing could have been seen with any other of their 17 year olds. Who knows how many of them would have been first round picks.

I haven't seen him but where would you rate Sam Frost atm Chris? Evidently he played well in the first U18 Champ match and was given a glowing review by Snoop.

Frost is an interesting one. Haven't seen a lot of him, that first U18 game would have opened up a fair few eyes. I'm always hesitant about judging KPPs on limited vision though, so I'll stick with him in the middle rounds for now.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Very good job so early on.

I'm really happy to see you included Michael Bussey on your list. Saw him for the first time against Queensland on Saturday and was very impressed. Seems to have all the tools to be able to play back or forward at AFL level eventually. At 196cm and 81kgs, he really is attractive and offers plenty of scope.

What's your thoughts on him?

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Devon Smith push up into the top 3 - unbelievable raps on him from Turner the Geelong Falcons coach.

That's unlike Mick Turner to be handing out massive raps to his Falcons boys

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

The top 3 is never a lock at this time of year - lets see how it plays out through the rest of the season.

I'd be happy with Devon at Port - just a freakish player with huge defensive dimension to his game - Turner rated him above Ablett Jnr at the same age which also says a lot.

Bussey is one of those I included more so because I find him to be an interesting prospect. Like you said, he has the size but more importantly he moves really well for someone his size. Can imagine teams liking what he offers given the way the game is played at the moment.

Hopefully he can nail down a spot up forward rather than just being a big bit part player, because there aren't a heap of key position players standing up at the moment. Outside the top group, there are still plenty of spots up for grabs for talls. That could help him move up into the first round.
