Any insights into whether Matty Clarke will play on or retire at the end of this season?

The guy is having a great second half season IMO and I imagine the club would want him to stay on.

I dont think Biglands has developed as far as he should have so far, possibly because Clarke has been used a lot more in ruck.

Is Craig grooming Biglands into a forward or is he just experimenting? What do people think of his abilities as a forward? I always thought Ayres didn't give him enough time up forward, he has a great leap for a big fellah and a pretty good pair of hands. But he still has a lot to learn about playing up forward and needs to improve his kicking.

If Clarke does retire then I imagine the Crows will almost certainly go after Ottens, or at least recruit a 3rd young ruckman from the draft.

Assuming Clarke has the desire to go on, the only question about keeping him would be if he is holding up the development of younger players.

Biglands has taken a step backwards this year, partially due to his willingness to get suspended. Hudson is enthusiastic if raw, and none out of Krueger, Dabrowski and Andrews are causing the selectors any debate. Although Clarke has his well documented limitations, he's probably contributed more around the ground than he did last year.

I don't know if I'd classify Biglands as having "good hands" - he's never taken more than 7 marks in a game. Even Clarke got 9 once, and Ben Marsh was good for 6 a couple of times. His kicking is woeful, too. Pushing 27, I doubt he's got enough time for a reinvention as a forward.

Personally I would:

1. Trade away Biglands (could be handy for a team like the Saints).
2. Trade for another young ruckman (eg. Minson)
3. Sign Clarke for 1 year as a backup to Hudson.

Exactly

Biglands has been one of the biggest disappointments of the year

Maybe i could live with his up & down performances but after his 2 visits to the tribunal this year for 2 very stupid & reckless charges that cost 9 games & then for him to come out not long ago & claim he see's nothing wrong in how he plays the game & wont be changing anything then maybe it's time we cut our losses & trade him for a mid-range draft pick.

To be fair this year has been the first time in his career (including underage) that he even went to the tribunal let alone get suspended.

Its been a sh|tty year all around:(

Agree on all counts Kane.

Biglands has been very disappointing. 1 good performance in a whole year does not make an AFL player.

Minson would be a terrific deal. He's young and has the ability to make it to AFL level.

Clarke should go on 1 more year. It does not seems like his body is going to give anytime soon. He's still got a great leap on him, his ruckwork is as good as ever, and recently his work around the ground has really improved. He took 3 marks in 1 minute last week.

Trading Biglands would also allow Hudson to get more gametime and show us what he can offer. Biglands has already has plenty of chances.

If he wants to retire after a good finish to a season he will go. But we have to hope that he can see the bigger picture in at least helping to start the next phase for us to keep being the Number Club in this State. :)

Biglands has been tried at full forward has no left side! And drops the footy onto his boot with one hand so will never have any consistancy with his kicking.

I felt like I could read Doc's mind today when he was on the bench holding ice to his eye.

I reckon he's all done!
