Apparently: "Cameron Cloke looked proppy at training and is likely to be closely watched by the Pies"

hmm..

If Cloke was to miss the first few rounds of the season. How will our forwardline look?

Collingwood are keen to improve JA's skills further up the field so perhaps he might play higher and Rusling as leading full forward.

Possible structure 1:
F: Sean Rusling Jack Anthony Leon Davis
HF: Paul Medhurst Josh Fraser Alan Didak

Rotation: Tarkyn Lockyer Dale Thomas

Possible structure 2:
F: Paul Medhurst Sean Rusling Leon Davis

HF: Josh Fraser Jack Anthony Alan Didak
Rotation: Tarkyn Lockyer Dale Thomas

*On Leon don't think I'm suggesting that he will play as a perminant forward, but just instead start up forward then move into the midfield as the game progresses*

Unless Cloke's injury is worse then what Collingwood is letting on, I still think he will be there round 1, he just won't play much in the NAB Cup/Challenge.

It's later in the year that is a worry for Cloke now, as shown by Fraser over the past few years, these recurring knee injuries make it hard to see out a season.

Cloke will play round 1 unless he has more surgery, which I can't see happening.

His knee isn't that bad, literally had no limp or signs of discomfort until he left early.

Certain he will be ready come round 1

A lot rests on Cloke getting himself right this year. Hopefully he doesn't play in the NAB Cup and is given some time to heal up.

TBH i think Cloke is an area that we can fill relatively easily.

I mean, he hasnt exactly set the world on fire for the last few years and with guys like Dawes, Brown, Reid and now Fraser looking for a niche in the team, well this may just be the opportunity.

Cloke has never been our benchmark so IF he does have a bit of an injury, IMO it could have been a lot worst.

I'd rather lose cloke then Pendles or Swan or Shaw or Maxwell.

Perfect op for Fraser to move into a perm fwd structure and ruck Jolly and Wood

Thunder - i can't quite agree
Travis' loss to me is not easy to replace. To date Brown, Dawes, Josh and Reid do not inspire a great deal of confidence as replacements more as accompaniments.
Some are not experienced (Ben & Chris), others needed elsewhere (Josh) perhaps of these one of either Brown could fill in? But gee we would start to look flimsy with one of the Browns being matched up by the main defender!
All in all let us pray that his knee comes good real soon!

Couldn't disagree more with this NT.

In my opinion, Cloke is the player in our side that is the least able to be sufficiently replaced. There are certainly better players, but we generally have have better depth at these positions, except in the Cloke case.

He is a workhorse at one of the most important positions in our structure, and his most likely replacement (Dawes) is far inferior to him.

Agree.

I think Cloke has had his knee amputated, but he intends to line up in round one of the NAB cup.
He was heard to say "Its just a flesh wound"

So I'm no huge fan of Chris Dawes, we know this, but if Cloke doesn't come up by round 1, at least we'll see what Chris can really offer the football club, as with his endurance he looks as though he could play that high lead up role (as has been mentioned by several posters) and would have a bigger impact doing this than playing deep where he seems to be shut down pretty easily.

Hopefully they do give the kid a chance at some stage as we need to find out a bit more about him.

The game he has played in the AFL, Dawes does seem better when he plays up the Ground. Has a Great Kick for a Big Boy

I actually agree here, it's the only spot I can see Dawes playing this year, in a "Travis Cloke type" role.

Maybe in the NAB Cup Dawes should play there as insurance, just in case Trav's knee doesn't hold up for round 1 or even early into the H & A rounds.

I only see Dawes as "insurance" though, still don't see him in our top 22, in fact I wouldn't put him in our top 25 or so.

Do you think he ever will or do you see there until we get something better?

I just don't know with Dawes, and with Cloke only at 22, Dawes will either have to become an inside 50 forward (would have to improve his marking to do that) or he would have to somehow figure out a partnership with Cloke around half forward.

One thing's for sure, Dawes will be around for a while, I can't see Collingwood giving up on him without giving him every chance to succeed.

I hope he improves, because he has the physicality to play AFL footy, he just needs to take that "next step".

2010 is a big year for Dawes, may well decide how long his AFL career lasts, although as I said, I can't see him being delisted even if he has another "average" year.

I agree this Year will be huge for Dawes as he would have to get a Good Go in the AFL. With Rocca gone we be looking for a New Power FF.

But as people seen he is a Better up the Field Forward then Deep in the Forward Line.

2010 will give us a Good Idea if he is a Keeper or do we look to Trade/Draft for a New KPF?

So many rumours last year about Dawes wanting to try his luck at other clubs, Melbourne mentioned a few times, because he sees only limited opportunities at the pies.
Now with Josh likely to go forward, Dawes is pushed back down the list even further.
Cloke
Jack
Rus
Josh
all seem to be in front of him.
Sad really because I think the kid has some real talent

Well Nothing was talked about during trade week,

Well it's up to him to get himself a Game. Hopefully a BIG NAB Cup will help

I never heard a single rumour about Dawes wanting to leave?

Any links?

My understanding was that Melbourne approached us during trade week, and we pretty quickly said no.

Don't think he was ever put up for trade, just a matter of a club desperately in need of tall forward asking around.

Yep pretty much what I heard too except that Dawes would have been happy to go

There was some sounds a Week or 2 before Trade Week that Dawes had gone to the Club and Asked to be Traded and Melbourne was his Team of Choice.

I did not hear anything during trade week though
