HBaving a look at the stats from the Geelong game I think Collingwood will be using Bryan, Cloke, John Anthony as their main forwards, with Medhust, Thomas and Davis as the smalls. Throw in a Didak and Toovey as well.

Now the smalls I think we can cover easily with Doughty, Mcleod, Johncock and possibly Reily (rather him in the centre though or HF flank swaping with Vince).

The talls is the area of concern. Bock will take Cloke with probably Stevens for John Anthony. From what was said the other night Rutten will not be back for Rd 1, so we are a big man short for Bryan. Enter Moran. Now the question is still out on him but Sellar won't be put in as alternative. Will need Maric and Tippett to be floating into the backlines I think to plug holes. Will be interesting on the defense side of things

Bock will take Cloke, I am confident Rutten will return for rnd 1 to take on Anthony, Bryan may not be available as he is likely to face a charge from the NAB GF and if he is available he will spend most of the time in the ruck as Fraser may also struggle for fitness

Fairly sure Rutten will play, he has started competitive training and the fact that they didn't test anyone else out at FB leads me to believe they are failry certain he will be back by round 1. Rutten with a lack of match fitness >> Moran

Anthony is a worry. We don't have a good match up for him at all. Stevens is better on the genuine marking tall forward and Bock will be required elsewhere.

I can see him kicking 4 against us.

Bock to Cloke, Stevens to Bryan and a series of other players to flounder against Anthony at various stages.

I agree. Anthony toweled up Rutten last year in that final.

I think Collingwood are going to have to worry about our forward line for the first time in 10 years

lets be honest the Pies are a bit thin down back so it may be a good opprtunity to play 3 talls in the forward 50

everyone on the main board and some here are going on about Collingwood being too strong for us but really when you look on paper we've got it over them.... obviously this doesn't always translate to the field (e.g. Freo) but I'm more confident of us actually winning this game then alot of you.

We actually have a forward line now.... and It'll only get better with the addtion of Porps and Burton.

Uh...

You do realize hes not playing, right?

No, I didn't realise that.

I just assumed he was back considering ams4crows wrote "We actually have a forward line now.... and It'll only get better with the addtion of Porps and Burton"

My bad, I took that to mean that your forward line is functioning well (in the NAB cup), and it will only get better when Porps and Burton return in the regular season.

Porps may be back for round 1, Burton may be back for the next time we meet, round 12...maybe.

He's recovering well, but ACL's can be deceptive.

The forward line functioning well refered to Hentschel, Tippett, Walker and Jacky/Super Pets.

Porps and Burton will slot back in nicely though.

Think you have Pie forward line wrong.

Talls will be Cloke/Anthony and either Reid or Dawes assuming Rocca not ready. Fraser and Bryanb may drift forward occasionally but will mainly ruck. Cloke is your big danger here althogh Anthony is on the improve.

Smalls Medhurst Didak Davis and Thomas to rotate. Swan Lockyer and Pendles can chip in for goals also. Toovey strickly HB or occ wing if gets a game which is not likely.

Dont see how you can say you will easily cover our small forwards. This is clearly the strongest part of our team and i would rate our small forwards as the best group in the AFL.

Please explain why you think you have us easily covered here

If Rocca plays, we are well set, I reckon.

Seriously? With all respect mate, Walker is a first-gamer. Presti's down there, so's N.Brown, potentially L.Brown, and an assortment of Goldsack, Cox, Heater, and the like.

Well I look forward to you not worrying about it then. :)

Bock - Cloke
Rutten (Otten) - Anthony
Goodwin - Medhurst
McLeod - Davis
Johncock - Didak
Otten (Stevens) - take 3rd tall/med

Don't forget about Hentschel and Tippett and hopefully Porplyzia if he pulls up alright.

I don't mind the Stiffy and Didak match up, i'm just not sure Stiffy can go the distance with Didak. I know Stiffy can play a bit taller, but he gives away a bit of height on Didak too. Maybe Goody is a better match? He can go with Didak if he goes to the middle.

You sure?

I think the stiff will go to leon anyway, or thomas, but....

What is the biggest worry for us, isn't their forward line so much but rather their midfielders (Swan, Thomas, O'Bree and Didak) sneaking forward unchecked and taking uncontested marks in their forward 50. Swan in particular is brilliant at this.

Stiffy to get Davis. Mcleod needs to run forward at every chance, to make Didak accountable. He loves to hang out and wait for the ball in space.
