Collingwood's loss to Carlton today is a really good result for Sydney, this means that we are nearly 2 games clear of the Pies:D This should bring relief to the players and coaches and take some pressure off them for the next round because if we happen to lose against Melbourne(BETTER NOT HAPPEN) and the Pies win, they'll still wont be ahead of us.

bad loss for the pies 2day

No Rocca and big names going missing dale thomas, heath shaw, Leon Davis all very quiet today. The steam is just cooling down off the pies using all their energy on that game against the cats.

Still doesnt mean we get to breath easy they are a very hard team and will still do some serious damage in the weeks coming.

Melbourne just lost to the Tigers but they put up a very good fight so we have to not kick back and relax next weekend need to go out strong and win hard.

Pies have the Doggies which i think the dogs have in the bag but who knows pies are full of surprises

I for one am super excited about the pies game because I'm a huge pies fan and love the way they work together as a team and play their footy!

So interesting few weeks ahead for both teams!

Sure, we dont breath easy but it DOES take that little bit of pressure off the players and coaches which CAN make a difference.

Caught the last quarter, I'm really happy for the Blues. They were awesome in the last quarter last week, and backed it up today on a massive stage. Of course my biggest motivation was seeing the Pies, a top 4 contendor, slip 6 points behind us. But grats to Carlton all the same for showing great heart.

It'll help offset our near certain loss to the Pies in a few weeks :thumbsu:

Think positively. We can beat the Pies even though they were our boggy team last year. Provided we beat Melbourne next week we will still be a minimum be 6 points clear of Collingwood (possibly 10 if the Dogs beat them).:thumbsu:

Definately, every loss to Collingwood, Adelaide and Brisbane is great news for us.

I was actually playing around with the ladder predictor this morning and was reasonably realistic about our chances, factoring in one loss to Collingwood, Hawthorn, Geelong & The Bulldogs with us winning the rest and it finished with the pies in 4th and us in 5th by half a game but obviously I predicted the pies would beat carlton so we're looking good.:thumbsu:

Collingwood are taking on a different look these days. I'm thinking that they are overloaded with show pony types - think Daisy Thomas, Medhurst and Didak. All brilliant footballers, but also just the types who may go to water when real pressure is applied. Provided we bring our "A" game, I am now confident that the pies will not be the bogy team they have been. Just cannot wait to see Bevo drive Daisy's snotty nosed snout into the Stad Oz turf.

Thats the spirit Grimlock :thumbsu:

Any chance you could address the boys before the game to get em fired up:D
Only happy to help :D

I would love nothing more than to smash those dirty stinking Pies, but I just can't see it happening. Just look at what they did to Geelong, when they turned up their pressure.

Collingwood will do us, just like they did 3 times last year. They certainly fire up for the matchup against us.

Sorry Grimlock, I believe the result will go the other way this time around. Last year we had injuries to key personnel; we were down on confidence; and lacked that winning edge. Not taking anything away from the Pies, they were outstanding in all encounters and taught us a painful lesson.

However, this time around we are just about fully fit, glowing with confidence and have that winning belief back. We have added speed and grunt with the additions of Moore, Bird, Jack & Mattner. Furthermore, a fit Kennelly, Hall, Barry, LRT & Ablett will make up the difference we suffered last year.:thumbsu:

I'm pissed we play them after a break.

Saw them play Melbourne last week and they looked tired, the Dees just did not have the polish to get them. The Blues did and they face the Bulldogs next week.

With our momentum atm I would like to have played them before our week off rather than after it. Sadly I really rate them and think a weeks rest is going to bring them back into calculation for our match.

That's a great argument, much better than just saying "They'll win because I believe in the team". You've definitely lifted my outlooks on the match.

We looked really slow, missing a few players and couldn't handle their great defensive work. The manenr of the loss has probably scarred me more than I'll care to admit.

We know our upside, enough said. Collingwood on the other hand, were fragile yesterday. Mentally poor, weak at the contested footy and physically inept. On that basis, we have them covered. Plus, they are the most spectacularly overrated side in the history of the league. A very good reason to loathe them. Let's give the Colliwobbles a good old fashioned touch up and send them back to their souped up oxygen room where they can lick their sorry wounds.

Same. Does anyone have any stats regarding the games we play right after a bye week? I reckon it'll be very poor.

I really hope the Swans intensity are on for 120 minutes because I really don't want to witness another shotty display from our boys. They held us to 2 goals by half time, only then we managed to kick a bag and fall by 19 points (from memory I think it was) at ANZ last year.

Worried about this game... ALOT! If Collingwood play against us with the way they did against Geelong; we'll be dead meat. Their attack, intensity, ferocity in tackling and running was immaculate and consistent. Rewind back 2 weeks ago; our horrible first half performance against West Coast where they all manned up, ran hard and flooded back when they needed to, we struggled. Our skills were crap, we rushed things and the pressure was on us, so hopefully we can "steady the ship" against Collingwood. I reckon we'll see a hard running opposition who will not stop running for the full 4 quarters.

However, in saying all that, we're a new side. We have young guns like Jack, Moore and Bird. Plus our older players like McVeigh, Bevan and to a certain extent Jude have been playing better games this year. I think with the inclusion of Jack who is great at tagging influential players, has enabled Kirk to play more freely, he has been averaging like what 25+ possessions a game this year? We'll see a new side and hopefully it'll be enough for us to win.

Any news on Rocca's injury? Cos I don't want Leo Barry to play on him.
