Who is gonna be a legend a put up the my son might be better than me article on the bloody playwalled herald sun?
Peter Daicos says his son Josh could be better than him as Magpies mull father-son dilemma

SAM LANDSBERGER, Herald Sun

COLLINGWOOD legend Peter Daicos says his son Josh had the rounded game to develop into an even better player.

But small forward Daicos is no certainty to join the Magpies, who face a father-son dilemma in November’s draft as Gavin Brown’s son Callum is also eligible for selection.

The Pies do not have a first-round selection and could be forced to trade in extra picks or go into points deficit to secure the pair.

Daicos told the Herald Sun that Josh boasted terrific positioning and an uncanny ability to keep his feet.

“I think he’s a better all-rounder and is going to be a better player (than me),” Daicos said. “And I honestly mean that. I was in the system at an early age but I just think he’s got a better all-round game.

“When he puts on a bit of weight and his fitness comes up to speed he’s got a chance.”

The 1990 premiership great and five-time leading goalkicker sat in the Simonds Stadium stands as Josh kicked one goal from 11 disposals to help secure Vic Metro’s first under-18 national title since 2012.

“His positioning is really good, he keeps his feet and you can’t ask any more,” Daicos said. “You’re still in the contest if you keep your feet.”

Pressed on whether his son would eclipse his career, Daicos said: “I’m thinking about if you compare apples with apples, same age.

“You look at the all-round game, that’s what I’m saying. He’s got a piece of the game — he’s both sides, he’s got his skill sets and, as I said, he keeps his feet and his positioning is good. Hopefully that keeps him in good stead.”

Peter Daicos is one of the most revered players in Collingwood history but will his son be joining the club?
Most clubs rate Brown in the second round of the draft and, while some have Daicos in the same bracket, others believe he should come cheaply.

Complicating matters for Collingwood recruiter Derek Hine, both sons are under 180cm.

The club already has Jamie Elliott (178cm), Jarryd Blair (174) and the suspended Josh Thomas (178). Blair, 26, is coming out of contract.

Daicos said he wanted his son to get a chance in the AFL.

“Where it ends up, who knows?” he said.

One rival recruiter said the Pies had to draft both.

“Gavin Brown’s boy is a genuine AFL player. He’s tough, he’s hard — he’s Gavin Brown’s son,” he said.

“And then you’ve got the son of the ‘Macedonian Marvel’. He’s got class and is just such a natural footballer.

“They have to try to find a way, but I think any chance they had of getting them for nothing is gone.”

Daicos has showed flashes of brilliance since recovering from a broken hand this year while Brown sizzled with 11 first-quarter disposals against Western Australia.

Daicos’s second son, Nick, is also impressing as he climbs the junior ranks.

Marchbank has everything written on him that he'll jurn out like Jaksch at Carlton. They gave up too much for that dreaded word 'potential' and they just got injuries and a player who'll never be any more than serviceable. Marchbank whilst was a top prospect two years ago, hasn't shown much at all on the field and the rest of the time he's been injured. I don't think he's worth a first.

Marsh at FB and Reid at CHB, with Howe as third tall looks excellent at this stage. Depth in Keefe, White, Frost and still possibly Brown is more than enough I reckon.

Surely there are better trade targets out there for our price range.

Why? If what he is saying is true isn't it great for our Club?

One rival recruiter said we should take both.........happy days people.

They have Black & White in their veins. I love it.
Sorry mate, but not for mine "If he continues to work hard he has the potential to be a very good footballer at the next level because of blah blah blah" simple. Potential is a very dirty word at Collingwood (remember the potential the party Pies had) and one that is hurting Moore currently, IMO, so I'd hope we avoid it with Josh.

FWIW Brown's the one to watch, IMO. His development from nippy small forward to genuinely dangerous mid around the stoppages in under 12 months is just a little encouraging :)

The thing that annoys me Sco is we have wasted two years and counting on the two suspended players (I wont use my term for them because people have hissy fits when I do) but we "may" overlook Daicos/Brown.

Maybe I am getting old but going to the Footy should retain some of the soul & passion associated to it.
It was definitely present when I watched their Dads at Vick Park. Its hard to explain that feeling to my two boys now.

Watching Thomas/Keeffe run around in a Collingwood jumper next year and the potential to see Daicos/Brown in anything other than Black & White would be sacrilege in my eyes anyway.

Just my two cents

It sounds like the best chance of getting both are Brown first and Daicos second, I hope Daics wears the 35 despite the rule through to his last year (In 2035). Three of my all time favorites, Daicos, Moore and Brown, just need a Didak, Tarrant and a Medhurst. Hoping Swannie is using his time off planning for the Clubs future.

RIP Pants

Does anyone else like Zach Tuohy?
You like Tuohy and don't rate Brown. The mind boggles...

I guarantee they'll be Pies CFC!

In a hypothetical world let's say they're nominated at picks 19 and 20 respectively (unlikely anyway at this time). With the 15% discount we'll only need pick 23 (which we'll roughly have) and say picks 30 and 59 (which again we'll roughly have).

Effectively we just have to upgrade our third round pick and we're sweet! The media twisting the story to have us potentially missing out is purely scaremongering.

Problem with what you're saying here is that both Reid and Brown could very easily be done and dusted in 3 years time. Collingwood doesn't exactly have a great track record in keeping players beyond 30 on the park, and those two have had less than stellar injury histories. Honestly, now is the time to be seriously looking at nabbing some quality young key defenders. I'm not convinced Frost and Keeffe are long term key components to a good quality defence, more like adequate depth, and Marsh looks like being more of a third tall rather than a genuine key defender.

Hahah, in fairness, he sounds more like a proud dad than an objective observer. I seriously doubt what he says will have any impact on recruiters opinions :D
Correct.
The various recruiters know the true worth of players (in their estimation) anyway.
Daicos could spruik his boy(s) till the next season of Game Of Thrones, and I'd say recruiters wouldn't even notice as such.
Agree, he's more a proud dad, and good on him for that.

Fair enough but there are surely better times than now to pursue exprnsive young

Brown has been borderline useless this year and adds nothing to future success. We have capable cover if he were to leave and his absence in games this year hasn't had any effect on the final outcomes of games.
