Both these teams were at a similar stage last year and were tipped to challenge for top 4 spots this year. I've been having a debate with a crows supporter who believes that the crows list is better than collingwoods and if it was not for all the crows injuries, they would have been better than collingwood this year. I obviously disagree but wanted to see if anyone backed this view.

Personally I think it's a laughable prediction.

Yeah nah. I think we have a good group of youngsters, however I also think they're a year or two away from where Collingwood's youngsters are now. We basically took a punt on getting similar seasons from the ageing stars and having most of our team on the park. Hindsight suggests this didn't happen, although it did allow us to blood some youngsters that we hope will continue to improve in 2011.

Now if only we could get our last 7 games at home too ;)!

Believe it or not, he is actually serious which is why I wanted to see if anyone else had this view.

I didn't see many Adelaide supporters predicting us to win the flag this year so I can't see how any Adelaide supporters would say we have a better list then Collingwood now since they have just done so.

Collingwood are better but the ladder position of Adelaide doesn't do us justice.

Like or not , Adelaide's season was ruined from the get go with numerous injuries to key players not just throughout the year , but many in pre season which caused major disruption.

Collingwood were lucky to have hardly any injury worries and were basically injury free right up until the grand finals.

Not having to travel for the last 3 months of season would've also helped Collingwood's cause.

Personally I think the Crows will surprise many next year.

If they get the injury run Collingwood had we'll see them much higher up the ladder (not saying Premiership or anything).

Crows have an outstanding list but really, the proof will be in the pudding given a good injury run etc..

We'll see next year.

Hilarious thread: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=665102

My favourite post:
Adelaide has Taylor Walker; massive, massive tick in their favour purely due to this.

The point I will make about the semi final, is that sometimes you need to read further into a game than the result. Look at the flow of the game. Adelaide's brand of footy was starting to come together in the second half of the season, but with the likes of Dangerfield, Mackay, Vince, Tippett, Walker, Sloane and co. all poised to provide improvement (and obviously with Knights, Bock and VB missing), it wasn't yet humming at full capacity. The first half pointed to upwards of a ten goal victory, but the entire second term's dominance was wasted; Collingwood had a patch in the third quarter, where Adelaide's defense was poor, and they scored heavily in a very short space of time; this was an anomaly to the flow of the game, and it produced an anomalous result in my opinion. Adelaide had the better of the fourth term. Now the Pies won, and good on them, you can claim that every day of the week. But based on what I've seen, Adelaide will be a better side in 2010 than Collingwood (who I think will not see a premiership from this generation of players). Not trying to have a dig at you, just giving as honest as opinion as I can.

And again, Taylor Walker. You're all no doubt completely dismissing the name now, but I promise you this won't be the case come season's end
Massive, Massive tick in Adelaide's favour, purely due to Taylor Walker. :thumbsu::D

This about sums it up.

I think Adelaide also made some mistakes with their gameplan, not taking into account all their injuries and playing as if they were at full strength ... those who actually took the field weren't up to executing the gameplan.

All in all, 2010 was a horrible, disappointing season from Adelaide. I supposed all clubs have one of these at least every now and then.

The last time such a horror season happened to Adelaide was 2004. FWIW, Adelaide went alright in 2005/2006 (except for the very end of September in both years).

As for Collingwood ... in comparison Collingwood had one of those dream years where everything went right. They were the best team and deserved to win the flag, but you have to wonder what would have been if another club had had such a smooth year.

Adelaide's list is much better than they showed this year but you'd have to be delusional to suggest it's better than the Pies right now.

I think Adelaide will be back in the finals and pushing for a top 4 spot next year but Collingwood will be the bench mark.
Pretty much my thoughts too.

You need hindsight to see that Taylor Walker is, in fact, NOT a massive, massive tick for the Crows?

Colour me surprised.

He is the most talented forward on either list by a long way and so it will prove. That statement will stand the test of time.

Obviously the side performed well below what I had predicted they would, but that holds for the predictions of just about everyone about the Crows this year. I was also wrong about Collingwood and you know what? Good on them. They proved a lot of people wrong, and you guys should rightly be ecstatic about having witnessed such a brilliant and consistent season of footy as you did. Lot of supporters won't live to see their club do something like that (something I always spare a thought for).

The Crows will bounce back though, they're much better than they showed this year.

Uh, no. Travis Cloke is, by a fair margin too. Walker doesn't even come close.

Adelaide supporters are so insecure. this whole thread is literally 'this is why we were so shit!!! X Y and Z held us back!!!! watch out collingwood we are better than you 2011 bitch!!!!!'

Eh, goalwise Cloke only managed 3 more goals than Walker for 2010 and had played 6 more matches.

Both players are great, though.

Perhaps the question could be put like this, who will challenge collingwood in 2011 in all likelihood.

for mine, adelaide is the main team that comes to mind. had a bad year in 2010 no doubt, but had some good contests against the top sides. have a good even team and a great coach.

i'll be surprised if they don't. was shocked they fell away this year so badly.

dees and north also look like coming up.
