Probably an unpopular opinion, but I thought Erasmus was OK last night.

Looked a step behind the pace to start, but picked it up as the game progressed. Some really nice link up work and used his big body at times to block to good effect.
I can’t recall any clangers from him which is a change. Thought he was fine.

But he really is not a good choice for sub. Will never instant impact a game. Needs time to build into it always

The flags were flying to to end Fremantle were kicking, but papers on the ground were blowing the opposite way.

Yeah that was weird. Walking outside the ground the wind was blowing to the train station end, but like you say, in the first qtr the rubbish on the ground was definitely blowing towards Carlton's end. And the boundary throw ins were blowing in that direction too.

There is an opportunity now, with both Johnson and Young out, to give Erasmus a game and bring Fyfe in as sub. We need Wagner in as well.

Agree.

Grind may 'work' (I say this after the routine heart failure involved in following Freo) in the H-A season but you can't give teams a 1-2Q head start in finals, no f way.

It may be great that we've finally learned how to be a 4th Q team and close matches out, but it just shouldn't get to that.

we were abject for the first half. and in finals that will translate, against a focused team, to an embarrassment of a 60+ point drubbing. need to be focused, with strategy in hand from the bounce.

it's reasonably predictable how certain other teams will try to play against us; Carlton's movement not great, they were always gonna focus on contest pressure and deleting Serong. we should've expected that and planned to deal with it sooner/earlier.
Yes, this is worrying, but we rarely get too far behind no matter how badly we are playing. We always seem to be able to stay in touch and that makes the job easier to catch up again.

The next step he needs to take is actually have his team prepared for the first bounce... too often we aren't switched on until half time.
We're actually one of the better first quarter teams this year, winning 13 and lossing 7.
Only Adelaide (15-5) and Brisbane (14-6) have won more first quarters. Gold Coast and Carlton have also won 13 quarters.

I actually noticed him yesterday which for me signals a decent game.

Even just collecting the ball and keeping it in for another stoppage,

Most games i admit i hardly ever notice him out there because he has no impact on the game.
I thought he was far from our worst, really hard in the contest. A role in our mids likely opened up a bit due to Young going off.

I still think ultimately Fyfe and Wagner come back into that mix next week and he’ll be the guy that misses, but he’s good depth, which you need, it’s just a matter of whether he’s happy with that, as he would be a starting mid at some clubs (like the one up the road).

The main reason people are harsh on him, is that the bloke taken a pick later is genuinely the best player in the comp right now.

that is not the main reason people are harsh on him come off it, hes just never shown much of anything, regardless of his draft position

He was 'ok'.

I hope he goes around with us again, but he needs to find more weapons to become best 22.

Omeara, Oscar, Worner and Clark were the best today - It's great that the lesser lights are playing so well!

You sir are living in some kind of parallel universe where Clark is still a kitten.

In the real world he is well and truly purring, and is in the spotlight for AA honours.

This year's ladder is so stuffed, basically a three way tie for 1st, then one win and another three clubs tied for 4th with 7th to 9th just a game behind.

8th side currently two wins behind 1st place, 9th one win behind them.

Three wins across 23 games deciding 1st to 9th.
44 wins and 2 losses

Between top 9 v Bottom 9 since Round 10.

The comp has been split in 2. And the gap has never been more wider then it is right now.

Outside of the Swans who else in the bottom 9 do you expect to make so much ground next year to challenge for finals next year.

A fair question, especially when bottom six teams are looking like losing free agents and potentially St Kilda also losing their best player to a top eight side.

9 goals between our 3 KPF's. boy it's been a long time since we had this kind of KPF luxury

This season Voss has gone from a bits part player as a forward/ruck to a genuine kpf who is producing results equal to Treacy and Amiss.
All three key forwards are developing other parts to their games with Treacy being particularly good at swinging down back to take some game saving marks.
Amiss is developing his midfield game by spending time on the wing.
Voss has probably become the one to spend the most time as a forward atm.
It's a bonus that all three are developing so well as Jackson can spend more time in the midfield too.
Treacy and Voss are both players who chase and tackle hard.
One of the most exciting things about the three of them is that they are all still improving in lots of different ways.

Ginger thoughts:

- Reading the game day thread after a game like that was always going to be enjoyable, but that was beyond my wildest expectations...chef's kiss to a few of you...you know who you are.

- It looks like the unicorn label does fit after all. Yes he's tall, does things he's not meant to blah, blah, blah, but I also get a sense he hates losing and is a far bigger competitor than I ever imagined. Knowing I can sit back and watch Dogga in purple for the next 10 years is freaking awesome.

- I need to say this whenever I put pen to paper but My Worner, I'm not worthy and I profusely apologise.

- We've had pet names for famous couple before...Brangelina, Bennifer etc, but have we got anything for the three headed Hydra up front? I reackon we will before the day is out.

- Jordan Clark will be our B&F this year.

- I really liked what I saw of Ras when he came on. Obviously he's not the finished product but he loves getting his hands dirty and relishes the coal face. I hope he can out on another 5kgs over the off season and gets a licence to just smash in. I'll be devo if we lose him.

- OMac...thanks for being here. He knows he aint a star and knows he is the purest form of depth, but he has saved our bacon a little with Moose having chicken legs and all.

- WTF is it with Cripps saving his best footy for us? I've watched that campaigner over the last few weeks and he's been dog shit. Him and Hewett tore us apart in that first 2-3 quarters so I'm glad we won't see them again this year.

- Coldest day at the footy I can remember. I've been a lot wetter before, but I could barely feel my fingers at times yesterday.

I genuinely think Sydney are the only ones in the bottom 9 that are a legitimate finals contender next season - maybe someone else comes from the clouds but it's hard to see it, there is a cavernous gulf that only Sydney sits between.

I think last year was the opposite with a very even spread, apart from a couple of perenial bottom-dwellers. Which year is the outlier and which is more typical?

I think all of Port, Melbourne, St Kilda, Carlton and Essendon would surge off the back of a break out year or new acquisition/coach.

North always tease, like Gold Coast used to.

I was unsettled during the game and even after it became apparent we were going to run over the top of them I still felt it. The disturbance in the force it turned out was the retro jumper. I had to research to see if I was right:

- At some point they have got their wires crossed and taken the anchor size from the original jersey (no flukes, thinner and higher). The original purple haze jumper had a much thicker anchor as per the home jumper of the time. The thin achor makes this copy look too purple!

- The original also had a wide flare up to the neck, where as this copy just goes almost straight up. The flukes also end too close to the armpit in the new.

- The original also only had only white advertising patches on it, which probably helped the aesthetic.

I am not a crackpot. Thank you for your attention.
