Re: Walker Now!!!

It's obvious our forward line is in tatters at the moment. I'd like to see Tippett and Jericho have a spell in the SANFL and bring in Walker and Hentchell. Campbell for Patrenko would be nice too.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

The quote that really concerns me...:

So where are we going Neil? Oh I see, we're desperately trying to make the 8 so we can yet again simply make up the numbers. I think playing Walker is a good example of where we should be going > the future. Another example of his short sightedness. Nope, we're going nowhere fast.

Its hard doing the moonwalk when you are going forwards.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

Tails14, you don't live in Adelaide do you?

I only say this because between the TV news, talkback radio and the newspapers Walker has been hailed as the immediate saviour of the Crows forward line. They are swearing that he can come in next week and 6 goals. The pressure being caused by this media attention would be huge if he was pulled up to the seniors next week.

I interpret this as the Crows trying to douse expectations which are getting very unrealistic so when he does debut and god willing puts in a reasonable performance of 2-3 goals there isn't a massive backlash against the poor kid.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

If we play Taylor it's fine I'm all for it.

But if he stuffs up, he can't be held responsible because he will be getting the best backmen from the opposition, we seriously have nobody in our forward line.

If he stuffs up and is blamed, that will ruin his confidence. I think we had one forward over 190cm on the weekend.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Just being devils advocate:

If Walker comes in this week and gets 1 kick and 1 handball like Sellar did, then what?

Massive supporter and media backlash.

Think of all the McDermott's, Rowe's and Jarman's in the media who have been pumping up his tyres for weeks now. They won't be pleased at looking the fool.

Watch them attack Craigy for putting an 18 year old who is not ready in such a hard pressure game:rolleyes:

Going over the top as usual.

Yeah, everyone expects him to come in and kick 6 goals. Sorry about the constant roll eyes, but seriously, this post and half of your other posts on the matter deserve it. NO ONE, NO ONE expects him to come in and dominate. He wouldn't, he would struggle, but we have no one else. He might come in, kick a goal or two and show some signs of potential, that's all I and everyone else wants. Give him some experience and let him go into next season knowing what to expect, what to work on so he can be a better player.

You are so conservative and such a yes man, it's pathetic jo.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

WTF?

You actually want them to put the pressure of the entire team on Walkers shoulders?

I would have thought it was an obvious point, and one that some people apparently need reminding. Its not fair to Walker to develop this expectation that hes going to instantly solve all of our problems. Theres no way he alone can.

Re-read Drummond and try not to get personal like we're three year olds in a sand pit.

No one on here expects Walker to come in and dominate.

But in the media they do. I canot remember the last time a Crows youngster had his tyres pumped up this big before playing a game, maybe Andrew Mcleod or the Roo?

My point is the pressure that must be building is amazing and anything which can lower it is certainly worth the effort.

You see you misunderstood my point, I'm not making a case not to play him, just giving a reasonable reason why said article appeared on said site.

All this Walker hype is starting to get out of control. Just leave the kid in the SANFL to develop for the rest of the year. As I said earlier, what is Sellar getting out of playing sanfl at the moment - nothing. Bite the bullet and gift him a few games. We need to go out of way to give Sellar every opportunity to succeed. We can't afford another 1st round draft pick bust.

No more of this bring them in for up 60 minutes for their first game and then send them straight back to the SANFL. They should be afforded at least a 3 game block. Seriously, what can a 1st gamer show us in his first 60 minutes of AFL football??

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

What a negative, crap article that is. We don't want to know what isn't the answer, we want to know what is the answer. And how do you know if you don't try. It's football FFS. Walker is a footballer. Let him show what he's got. If he fails dismally and disappears from football because his entry into AFL was such a nightmare, then he probably wasn't meant to be anyway. Somehow I doubt that would happen...

Like Drummond said, no one is expecting him to be a star straight away. People just want to see the best side picked, with an eye to the future.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

Bombers idiot coach Knights was "really impressed that Fletcher beat Tippett"
With our lack of depth in our forward line (no guns) - you'd be dissappointed this didn't happen - no offence to Tippett
He didnt just beat Tippett, he completely outclassed him and dismantled him to the point where Tippett looked utterly pathetic. Fletcher did a brilliant job in shutting down one of your main forwards. Got many timely fists in when it didnt look possible.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

Not trying to have a go here, but look at James Sellar as well. In my opinion, the pressure that gets heaped on 18 year old forwards at the Crows, who have never played an AFL game, is extraordinary. If you're not careful, Walker could go the same way . . .

James is doing fine....yes he's in the reserves, but he wasn't getting much of a look in the league team given their current structure and form.

Too right SC, just leave the bloke alone all you fanboys-get out of it! Don't know if I agree on Sellar though, i see your point with Sellar and SANFL but what he's showing is pretty ordinary, he needs to lift. Personally I'm undecided, there are +ves and -ves each way.

Heres my thoughts from yet another Taylor Walker thread-why are there so many? Get it together mods

Look, I'd like to see Walker play as much as the next crows supporter, he is undoubtedly a very exciting prospect. However it does not surprise me that the crows do not feel he is ready, he is only eighteen remember and a fairly slight build amongst other things.
I have complete faith in Craig's and the ability of the Crows to develop our young players and do what best for them. Playing Taylor too early could be harmful, even disastrous for him in the long run, anyone who says otherwise does not fully understand the high demands of AFL football and the magnitude of the step up from SANFL level.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

I am going to agree with Craig and the AFC. Now is not the time to go with Walker and Dangerfield - our season is not yet over. If in 3 weeks, we have no chance of making the 8 then yes blood the two youngsters for the last couple of games but not now when we still have the possibility of making the 8. Yes, we have lost 5 in a row but only the game against Geelong was a disaster and who haven't they whipped in the last 7 weeks! Neither kid is our saviour and the pressure on these kids would be enormous at this point in time.

McDermott has zero credibility so who bothers listening to him.

Still beat him convincingly and Knights correctly praised his effort.

Was simply responding to a fool calling Knight's an idiot when it wasn't warranted.

Well said. I would be hesitant to play Walker this season, I don't know where he's at. It's very easy to say "play Walker, play Walker!" but we've got to do whats best for him and his long term development. Playing AFL too early could be detrimental to him in the long run.

Look at Tom Hawkins, geelong are being very careful with him even though he could play AFL at the moment-he's a freakin monster! Numerous players have commented, when questioned, that he's up to it but they've got to do whats best for him in the long run. He will tear the competition in half in about 2 years time by the way, it will be frightening-lets hope the next big two are Hawkins and Walker hey?! ;) Don't tell me it's because Geelong are a better team either, because they could play him ahead of Lonergan or others.

Dangerfield is another proposition, he seems to be more ready for the big time and being a midfielder this is in his favour regarding the race to debut between the two, however its been made clear that his schooling is his priority this year, and fair enough too.

All I ask is for people to think before they post. If something is obvious to us then its sure going to be obvious to those inside the club!

what would we actually lose by dropping Jericho, Stevens and Campbell for Walker, Otten and MacKay

Jericho, Stevens and Campbell combined for 20 touches last week

I understand that the public pressure is building for Walker to be selected, however the public excitement will always be there, whether that is 2008 or 2009, and if you ask the lad, I bet he would say, I want to play

I really do not believe that the majority of crows supporters expect the lad to come in and go bang, what we expect is to groom a natural forward for the future

Play the Lad :thumbsu:

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

The person who wrote this article should get a kick in the butt. Firstly the title is negative, for supporters, for Taylor, for his family, for the club. Something along the lines of "Walkers development AFC no.1 priority" etc. would have been much better. Secondly Craig's last line about the way Walker gets his goals is poor, it was poor when he said it in the press conference, but it was plain dumb for the club to repeat it on the website. Most supporters want Walker to fulfill his potential, i'm no expert on whether this best done in the sanfl or the afl, but this article didn't push anything positive about looking out for Walkers development. Very poor effort from the clubs PR and web people.

Oh, yes. Top effort that. :D

He also rode him like a ****ing camel.

Re: Afc Website.......walker Not The Answer

I for one don't expect Taylor Walker to be our saviour. The lad is in form and he deserves a call up. Was Jackie, Sellar & Otten ready to play when they did?

Exactly.

Walker is our future, and he is able to begin that future in the present.

He has form and has to play his first few games sometime...why not play 3 or so till Hentschel is ready, then finals for Norwood, then get primed for next year.

fletcher is the most overrated footballer of the last 25 years.

Walker will not kick us to victory but why why why do we every year have the dichotomy of inexperience=worse result...sure you need a balance but sometimes youth has a positive effect overall.

Walker would do the equal of Jericho, and he is our future.
