I wish we'd won 7 flags in that time. The Swans are known for producing champion players though, strangely enough. The Swans have the most Brownlow medals in VFL/AFL history.

You'll see alot of Brownlows come from clubs that traditionally struggle. South Melbourne/Syd and St Kilda have had a bagful over the years. And you've even pointed out in your post how well Melbourne and the Bulldogs have done - neither team exactly powerhouses since 77.

Brownlow medallists stand out from the rest of the team - especially when they're down and full of ordinary players. Fact of life.

Sydney has been at the top of its development arc for several seasons, sure. But Goodes is a freak, and will be talked about for years. So no. He wasn't gifted a Brownlow at all. And neither was Kelly. Or Healy.

In fact Goodes should have owned the 2003 one outright. He had close to a BOG performance against Brisbane (the reigning and soon to be re-anointed Premiership team) in Brisbane and got zero from the umps gifting Buckley his Brownlow. Read what you want into that one.

Maybe we shouldn't complain but I will anyway. That last game of 2003 when he got 2 votes (Fosdike got 3) was very dubious. I think I can remember even the main umpire expressing some doubts later about not having given Goodes top votes for his magnificence in that match. Maybe the umpie didn't receive his directive from the AFL that day.

You stupid tool. That's the most ridiculous conspiracy Sydney theory I've read on this site. Brownlow medals do not attract crowds or audiences, team success does. You might finally realise that this season, unless Geelong gets the wobbles again. I can hear all those knees shaking down in Geelong from here.

Freaks, when i read that, i sent shivers down my spine. That footage in that last quarter is still crystal clear in my mind. I have the picture of him screaming after kicking that goal. A4 size and stuck on my bedroom door. Goodes your legend!
