robert redford yes GIF
Is that Redford from that movie where he is a trapper? Or is it Zach Galafianakis being a smart campaigner?

Only need 1 of Erasmus, Sheldrick & Phillips. But sure chase them all until we're locked onto 1.

Having 3 or even 2 of them will clog the list & block younger higher ceiling players from development.

Based on nothing at all, seems to me Sheldrick probably is most likely to be an effective inside mid long term, followed by Raz then Phillips.

Rhino on Hard Ball Gets saying Erasmus is miles ahead of the other two as WCs first preference

He'd personally have Sheldrick first fwiw

What value/pick and contract length would you offer for Erasmus?

According to Rhino on hardball gets Freo are going to put a deal worth overs in front of him. 2-3 years on 5-600k.

If we want him, we’ll have to offer a bigger deal than that. 4 years at 650k, front ended.

My guess is that is a way to force a better trade out of us than what he is worth on paper. It does become hard to argue a token pick for a guy you’re offering a four year deal to.

On paper it should be worth only marginally more than the Brockman deal of 44+61 from memory.

Freo will want at least Hawks 2nd (currently 31) and will ask for our 2nd.

I’d like us to give nothing more than a F3.

If we offer Erasmus 4 years on $650k and trade draft capital commensurate to that contract, clarke & wce_phil both need to be sacked.

Definitely well overs, I don’t care about the cash as long as we front load it as we have no one to pay anyway.

We have shown an ability to be firm at times when it comes to out of favour and out of contract players. SPS was pick 52 and Brockman 44 & 61.

Hawks 3rd should be too far off.

Yes I think you are right about FRE putting an overs deal to keep him or make someone pay up with a better pick.
I would be comfortable with a 3 year deal, he is on the fringe of best 23 so you comparison with Brockman is relevant, 3rd round seems about right, maybe a F4th added to get it over the line if needed would be my guess.
Don't think he is worth anymore than the 500k mark, but can front end for sure.

Erasmus hasn't done near enough to warrant a 4 year deal. That's exessive and reckless. If he's offered that from Cockburn then we should step back and they can keep him.

At this point he's vanilla and hasn't particularly made the jump translating WAFL form to AFL form, which is why he's still yet to establish himself in that team despite being a pick #10 in his 4th season.

There's upside there, if we back ourselves to get more out of him than Cockburn has... but there's risks and there's 'risks'.

3 years at most IMO, and that could also still turn pear shaped if he continues performing the way he has been.

If we are after a defender then Wade Derksen is who id take. Cheaper, would definetly want to come and worth a shot

I think out of the 3 of Erasmus/Sheldrick/Phillips id actually prefer Phillips. I dont think we need more people chasing the ball. I want a in and under person to help those chasing the ball

We need a ball magnet

Erasmus has hit +20 disposals once in his entire career, back in 2023.

This year he's averaging 15 disposals, 2 tackles a game.

Been subbed off once, take that game out and it's still only 17 disposals and 2.6 tackles a game.

Definitely not worth 4 years.

Sheldrick is the guy if we want a ball magnet although I suspect he will
be the most expensive out of the options.

Id rather turn what we have into ball magnets to be honest and alot of that comes from improving our clearance work. I see more benefit in getting Harley/Hewett to 25 possies a game consistently then Sheldrick coming in and getting 25 himself who isnt as damaging.

Since the two clubs apparently don’t like dealing with each other, maybe this is the year we finally put on our big boy pants and actually use PSD pick 1 to get a player for free?

Played out of position at AFL level though, right? If he's not on ball, that would be a contributing factor on the drop on disposals and why WAFL form hasn't been able to translate to AFL level.

It is hard to believe Freo would offer that much for Erasmus.

At the moment for the WCE he would just be fighting for a wing/HF spot with the likes of Hutchinson, Maric, Kelly, Allan, Dewar, Hunt etc.

The juice isn't worth the squeeze, PSD or not.

He has the hardness edge over Maric but Maric has him covered in pretty much every other way other than maybe top speed.
He is probably faster than Hutch but his kicking is at best of a similar level and he isn't as proven both ways. Out of the 3 Hutch at least has the ability and forward instincts to play as a marking target at AFL level and works his arse off.

What is does show however is that we really need to develop and upgrade our wings just as much as the primary part of our midfield.

I think we need to see Allan playing midfield at WAFL level for a few games before making a chase on someone like Erasmus.

The more I've watched the past few weeks however it does now seem like Hunt is surplus to requirements and we probably need the list position.
