We picked Archer over Morris 🤷

Will Morris always be better than Archer

You talk like shanahan is a guarantee.

He played well today but after 7 games he has kicked 9 goals average just under 8 possessions and 4 marks. He is going alright he has some nice attributes

But no guarantees in football.

Jaeger o'meara was touted as good as Harley reid pre draft and his first 2 years were close to as good as anyone's has been .

He then ****ed his knee and was never the same player .

People need to temper their expectations
Again if your whole point is there’s no guarantees you can’t say Richmond nailed it.

It’s either too early to say that or not too early to say they ****ed up missing Shanahan.

Darcy Cameron staying at the Pies. 3 year extension.

Interesting to see who we look at now.

If McCarthy keeps doing what hes doing, what does that mean for our list build going forward? Especially if he stays in the midfield?

Lets assume he makes it as an outside/transition mid.
Do we shift from drafting basically exclusively mids with first round picks this year to targeting Lindsay/Farrow more to be that distributor off half back? We dont really have anybody else to do it
Can never have too many good distributors imo. They can always move onto a wing

Why do Freo posters not rate him?
At AFL level he gets caught out around the ground. Maybe not too dissimilar to Flynn that way. Reidys very top line attritbute is hitouts to advantage Its the one thing none of our rucks can do really. Reidy on a 2 year deal and Barnett on the next plane to Adelaide wouldnt be the worst idea

This is the best news. Takes Cameron out of our hands so we can't make the stupid decision.
It does probably kick the Ruck can down the road for another 12 months though.

I just don't want us to take CDT. it'll be another Barnett. Calling it now.
(Would be happy if wrong though)

Who is available in 12 months?

Dont see that similarity in anyway. Barnett issue is he is shocking around the ground and CDT strength is his ability around the ground

Would love the Tigers to pick those two.

Richmond's kids havent proved much at all to date.

Their senior players have stood up where ours didnt.

Thats the difference so far.

Traded out a heap of seniors and used the picks but retained seniors who stayed fit and could contribute.

Eagles havent even used the 2025 Barrass trade picks yet, are about to lose Allen and get pick 2. So by the end of this trade and draft period Eagles will have converted a similar number of senior players into top picks. And this draft will spend some pretty decent draft capital to catch up.
Agree but at the end of the day Richmond converted their players into draft picks in the best perceived draft in a long time .

Did it right drafting talls early in their rebuild and using their best picks on mids

On the other hand we completely ****ed our trade period last off season

Trading out pick 3 in a bumper draft then been stuck picking what's left rather than picking who we want

Over paying for Baker when other teams would stand firm .

Trading out our only useful asset in barrass then having to wait a year for future picks .
Future picks in a weak draft.
The only reason this happened because hawks knew we are push overs.
We didn't even make a fuss about it too busy trying to sell pick 3 for Baker.

Thank **** our drafting team pulled some gems out in shanahan gross and davis .

I have a feeling nothing will have changed this off season and we will give up picks for the likes of Duncan or overpay for 30 year old ex WA seniors who want to come home and cash in their last few years

McCarthy's performance yesterday highlighted that the likes of Patrick Cripps and Lachie Neale would be useful, if available. You wouldn't go spending capital on the likes of Duncan.

It really really isn’t.

Maybe you didn’t want Cameron, but when a good day still equates to losing the hit out counts to a 3-1 ratio and losing clearances 4-1, it means a solution needs to happen.

Rucks are the most finite resource in footy. Cameron was a good’n.
Okay yeah his age profile wasn’t perfect, but he would’ve made the single biggest difference without paying top top dollar for a blue chip mid (in either $$ or trade capital).

Gross and Davis are not gems, and are extremely unproven. Strengthens your point more though

Collingwood signing on the senior players to maintain their premiership window reminds me of our list strategy a few years ago.

If they fall into the injury/unavailability spiral, I wonder if the media community will be as fierce with Collingwood as they have been with us.
