2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

The value of Starcevich is the only sticking point. Pick 22 for a concussion prone FA seems like overs (although probably fair value for his quality as a player).

A savvier list management team would have got it done for the Hawks second. Far from a disaster though.

Starcevich is quality. If he is able to remain on the park, we’ll have likely massively underpaid. In the end, in a weak draft, pick 22, which becomes closer to pick 30, is just fine for me.

Was moving from 16 to 12 even that important?

Was quite happy with just keeping 16 tbh, unless we were going to use it to trade back into the top 10.

Seems like the sort of move you'd make on draft night, because x player is still on the board. A marginal shift 4 spots now is a bit odd. Daresay Farrow is going to be the target here.
Moving 16, 23, 38 to GC for 6 and sending 22 for Starcevich, but with extra steps.

It would have likely gone lower after early bids for the 3 northern academy guys and dean.

Go read the Freo board. They (probably rightly) think they still got shafted
They get the worst of the deal, but will still be able to achieve their aims (e.g. bring in McVee and keep a late first).

It’s just that their aim was pretty low to begin with. They’re used to being the main character of trade week and I suspect aren’t coping well with a patient approach this year, adding around the edges of a good and still very young core.
I'm not sure how Freo fans could be upset. They've set themselves up very nicely to get McVee via trade and Rodriguez via draft. That's pretty solid business.

Trade is gross, we massively overpaid
What did we give up ? ..... the free assistance pick and our second rounder . What did we gain ? Starc an upgrade to our pick 16 which we were trying do anyway, pick 37 and pick 53. So we can pick three top end 1st rounders and three local kids with the later picks.

Sorry to intrude but Harry would do pretty well in your side I reckon. He was always pretty good at Crows, good speed and kick for goal, but pushed out by Soligo.

Did his achilles and never got back to senior footy although was doing well in SANFL

Complete rubbish, undersized one way runner with a horrid gas tank and zero defensive instinct

So trades done lets move to the next do we prefer Macrae or Schoenberg.... or both...
Without knowing anything about him Schrodinger's CV doesn't look great. Was delisted at end of last year, re-rookied and only played 1 further game.
Career average of 15 touches per game as a mid seems very underwhelming.
If we're just recruiting him to help our WAFL side, it would be a waste of spot.
Macrae's stats don't look great either.
But tbf, Dev's stats aren't much better...
Both only 10 touches a game.
I know we find it hard to attract talent, but I hope we're not bringing a lot of random players from other teams in just for the heck of it a la the Ken Judge era.
All these options look very meh.

I think it does going by the few the mock drafts I've watched. At 16 we're hoping for someone like Dovaston to slip through. At 12 it's puts us in range of Farrow/Greeves/Philipou and Sharp if he slides

Where's the welcome Starcevich thread?

As with all things AFL let’s wait until it’s official

That Twomey Kent might have another more to come tweet

Pick 12 may get us Josh Lindsay or Curtin or Farrow whereas they would have all probably been taken by pick 16
Pick 33 will get us Curtin farrow and lindsay gone by 13 .

It last year all over again we wait and see what scraps are left .

Would have been a much better idea to give Brisbane 22 and take 16 23 ryan and go for pick 8

I actually think it’s a big difference in talent if we end up stuck with it. It has us looking at Lindsay, Dovaston or Farrow instead of NHH, Phillipou, O Taylor or maybe Emmett.

In my view that’s a fair step down, still hoping we get 7.

For obvious reasons (i.e. we actually own it) Pick 12 is getting the mock draft attention in here, but I really think it’s all going to GC for their pick (whichever of 6/7 stays with them post Flanders and Petracca deals).
Nah Clarke will trade one of those 30s pick for young like a ****ing moron

The "problem" is others feel those picks could've been better used elsewhere.

Like Fivey said, we had a lot of leverage here and came out of it in a very meh situation. Helped others get what they want.

Is it awful? No. Is it good? Also no.

Exactly. It seems to be one of those rare trades that worked out about evenly for all involved.

Really we should be happy with it, but most are too busy concentrating on what we missed out on and wondering why we didn't rip off others.

And it seems we managed to work with Freo to do it, which bodes well for the future when WA footy needs to put up a united front so we don't get ignored by the VFL.
