2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

The very same people will want Essendon to give us 5,6 for 1 or we have been shafted.

And also would have been complaining that pick 22 was worth nothing and will be 30 after academies and compo in a weak draft.

And ignore the fact that 33 and 52 will probably come in heavily on draft night with so many picks ahead of them packaged to match bids.

5 plus 6 for pick 1 is what we should get.

That's been explained several times.

That value was set in our 2022 trade with pick 2 landing 9 and 14.

We shouldn't need to give anything else up.

It's all relative right. The reigning premieres paid nothing for Oscar Allen and Draper. The wooden spooners paid 22 for Starcevich.

At the end of the day it is what it is, we didn't get fleeced but due to circumstances we walk away paying a fair price for a free agent when other clubs such as the reigning premiers pay nothing

Relative to what?

We got Starc for a 10 pick down grade in the 2nd round.

THATs what Starcevich cost. A pick downgrade. 23 to 33.

And also got pick 52 to trade or to match a bid or use.

So it didn't cost pick 23 to land him did it.

Even though the deal is complex, the deal ultimately boils down to whether you think getting Starcevich is worth giving up pick 22.
yeah I guess my point is that pick 22 this year might not be the same as pick 22 in most other years. We have these preconceptions of inherent value of pick X but maybe we need to put them aside this year.

Considering Flanders and McVee have been valued at pick 7 and 23 - I think it gives an indication of the worth of draft picks this year. Would be worth closer to 20 and 40 in a normal draft imo

Suggests 22 for Starcevich isn’t so bad
What is ryan worth then ?

Unless you are sitting in the room when the negotiation takes place, how would you know this ?

Right, so you think while the Eagles and Lions were discussing OA and Starce trades, that this was never brought up? I know Clarke is incompetent, but I find it hard to believe that this was never mentioned.

Wait it was apparently pick 23 on points . Where is this downgrade shit coming from .

23 for starcivich

16 + 22 for 12 + 33 + 52

Why ? Its great to have the one year option instead of the minimum 2 in the national draft

Make it a one year deal if drafted in R4 or later then

There’s no practical distinction between the main and rookie lists so why keep it

Rookie list should be scrapped - it’s an irrelevance now and has been for some time
It's a good point. It really serves no meaningful function any more, other than these mechanics and splitting up the draft. The Cat B's have effectively become the rookie list and even then there is so few limitations once someone is on that list - at least there is a different qualification criteria and it is giving players an opportunity who otherwise may not get it.

Do you?

It's been a big couple of days but even these throw away lines I really find frustrating.

The way i'm breaking the trade down is

Pick 22
for
Starcevich & Dev (assuming they delist him)

Picks 16 and 23 (1577 points)
for
Picks 12, 33 & 52 (1564 points)

Once the picks slide due to Oscar we lose 32 points but

move up from 17 to 13
move down from 24 to 34
Gain an extra pick 53

When you look at it like this it was a very good deal for the club.

Also about 80% of the Morton comparison comes from squashface saying the Duursma family remind him of the Mortons; a bit overrated due to being a group - kinda like the Cheerleader Effect from HIMYM.
Another comparison could be the Selwood's, not the hardness bit as they were all tough. The first 3 were all just good honest battlers and the 4th turned out to be the pick of the crop.

Hang on

So we gave up 19 and around 22 for 12. We paid overs. Way overs

If the Lions were threatening band 2 compo for Oscar and requesting a pick for Dev BUT will now provide Band 1 compo and release Dev as DFA then I can live with the trade.

I still believe the Band 2 threat was an empty one and I dont believe Matt Clarke delivered value in the trade result but simply protected it.

Given what dockers gave for McVee id rather Starcevich for the same capital.

Scott would be flattered to be considered the cream of the crop but I think Joel probably had him beat.
