Hard to believe that some of these experts get paid to do this for a living
Salty Vics, am over the hypocrisy...they slam WC for being pathetic and embarrassing halfway through the season, then slam them for doing well in the trades.(Hird etc)
Then when we eventually make top 8/finals they'll fawn over us or criticise how we got there. Victoria is a parallel world.

Duursma needs to hit the gym, he's a rangy critter. Whether we get him or not we need a pure mid - Sharp? Banfield looks alright too. Haven't seen highlights of Robey, but if he's similar to Harley and Hewett, isn't that a good thing?

When we eventually win another flag "Pick 2" will be used as the inevitable asterisk against the premiership.

Duursma's not a pure mid. He's a HBF/ winger. A lot of people dont want us using pick 1/2 on him because we dont need players in these positions as much as we need inside bulls.

Sharp should be our man. If he's half as much a contested beast as his draft profile suggests then he and Harley will be tearing the comp a new arseh*le in 5 years time.
Not taking the clear number 1 prospect would be crazy

Duursma is too good to pass up. Hopefully he starts as an intercepting half back and moves into the midfield like Yeo/Hayden Young.

A lot of these guys spend about 5 minutes a week doing research on the sport that they're paid handsomely to talk about.
Sigh

Compensation isn't based on the player's performance, it's based on the contract offered by the receiving club and the age of the player. Some bands compensation is based on ladder position - including band 1.

The AFL should drop the secrecy around the formula, but it's not "assistance" that any club isn't eligible for if one of their Free Agents walks.

It's a shit system, but not because Allen resulted in pick 2 - it's because the cost isn't paid by the receiving club, which means that powerful clubs can raid weak clubs with impunity (as we're seeing Brisbane do). If Brisbane paid a cost for this, they'd not have been able to get Allen, Draper and then still consider drafting Annable.

I agree and later picks/rookie picks should be used on best available. If a kpd is the best option then go for it. If its a mid then go for it.
We do have a few mids from later picks already tho who look promising
Still though

Let's look at the best of best key defenders.

Andrews pick 61
Taylor pick 28
Gov rookie
Collins pick 55
Weitering pick 1
Sicily pick 56
Moore pick 9
Vlastun pick 9
Barras pick 43
Henry rookie
Wilkie roo
Conner O'Sullivan pick 10
Cox Pearce

And we have
Edwards ok not rated above anyone on the above list.
Bazzo doubt it
Reid gonna ruck
Shanahan stay forward
Brock developing.

Finding another one like stumpf or Ainsworth as rookie would be good business. Develop them in the 2s

You do not pick needs at pick 1. You pick the best player.

That's how you end up with Paddy McCartin over Christian Petracca.

Pretty straightforward. Feels slight unders in that I thought a future third might also accompany this pick, but it was always going to mainly be that Blues Pick 41.

Still think most likely is Chesser is out of the league in a few years, but I’d have preferred to keep him and find out for ourselves. Ah well, more points for the trade up mill/Young deal.

Geez a lot of people dont like the take "mids over Duursma", huh? Inbox poppin' off.

Not saying he's not a good prospect, but he isnt head and shoulders above everyone else like Harley was. For our immediate needs a contested inside bull should be who we're looking at in the Top 2, not a winger we might turn into a mid in 3-5 years and a gamble on another young ruck/ forward.

If we pickup both Duursma and CDT because bEsT aVaIlAblE and I have to watch the midfield continue to stagnate with Harley trying his guts out amongst a group of scrubs again in 2026 I will puke.

Feels like GC are starting to get the points they need to trade 7 & 8 for Trac
No chance would they have the capital still for Trac + their two draft picks if we bid on them. They need to make some deal with us so we don't just bid on their blokes 1+2

Again, you don't reach for 'needs' at pick 1.

Pick 2 we can be a bit more flexible with but Duursma is clearly the #1 pick this draft, so we just pick him and go from there.

Heaps of gun inside mids in juniors fail to adapt to seniors due to size/athleticism, which is the concern some have on Sharp.

You need to do more than just extract the ball at AFL level.
