The Lions can just **** off.

Leave Starvevich on the table. If he can't reach a deal with the Lions to stay then great, PSD works for us.

Somebody tell Clarke that IF THE VALUE IS NOT RIGHT YOU DONT DO THE DEAL. But I bet we just pander to the Lions because we "made a commitment".

The sheer audacity of the Lions to ask for pick 16 makes my blood boil. They should be getting NOTHING for him as they are getting in Allen and Draper. Tell them to jump.

The ability of our club to find itself in these situation astounds me. The one year we manage to orchestrate a good free agency outcome in Allen is the ONE year we get a half decent free agent on the hook the other way and now seemingly are stuck having to trade a good pick for a bloke who is one head knock from retirement.

Pick 16 is 924 and 23 is 653

As it stands lions only have like 1300 points so yeah there is likely truth In all this. They are trying to bend us over so they can continue to rort the system.
They save more than that difference by us not bidding on Annable

Brisbane playing a dangerous game. Their only leverage is the compo but I daresay we’d be happy to keep Allen if it’s only band 2.

Can easily tell them to shove it and take Starcevich/Robertson for nothing and bid on Annable at 1.

If we fold on this then Clarke better pack his bags because we’ll never be taken seriously again.

This is also what happens when you don’t get ahead of the narrative. Letting the Lions send Starcevich off at the B+F then Twomey’s tweet about the PP means that’s the minimum we’ll be paying.

I don’t think we’d be “happy” to keep Allen, matching that contract would be a horrible scenario for us. Of course we can threaten that though, it’s in Brisbanes interest to make sure it’s band 1 but it seems like they are going to hold us hostage over it.

We don't have to "get ahead of the narrative". We can do business our way. Brisbane looks stupid if they wind up keeping Starcevich or letting him go for the Hawks' R2. We just need to keep Matty Clarke away from any negotiations.

In theory, agree. But the Lions know from last year that we have no balls or business savvy. They will play us easily.

Exaclty this.

We hold all the cards here. Brisbane has offered Allen a contract, the terms of which they need to honour.

And they need to do that before the free agent window closes on Friday.

If we are clever, all we need to do is sit on our hands and wait for Brisbane to do the FA paperwork. After that, we can talk about trades for Starcevich.

Why are we even entertaining a ‘fair’ trade when we can just walk him to the draft.

We need to grow some ****ing balls. You wouldn’t see Geelong negotiating like this, they’d offer something like a late 2nd or 3rd rounder and say “take it or we just walk them to the draft” and they wouldn’t budge on that.

Nice guys finish last.

Disagree I think we would be happy to keep Allen over pick 20. The contact is band 2 worth in that case too, we would just front end it (we haven’t pay someone) but 0 chance he comes back now, his manager would have to pivot and find another option.

Flanders is costing teams band 1 money and pick 7 to get the deal done.

For all the screaming at Brisbane, we've done this to our ****ing selves. We've allowed Brisbane to get some leverage by pursuing Starc. Would have been much cleaner where Allen RFA and a bid on Annable were the only moving parts. Starc is a good player and Dev is fine depth.......but neither are game changers and we've just complicated the whole thing by adding them to the mix.

Why are we melting about something that hasn’t even happened. Brisbane will ask for 16 but it doesn’t mean they will get it. Will end up being the PP pick. Which is fair because it’s getting us pick 2 instead of pick 20 (End of first compo)

Time to chill out mate. It hasn’t happened yet, and we’ve been targeting Starc before OA wanted to go to Brisbane.
