We dont want Oliver melbourne are trying to offload him as we all know he is the bad apple in the bunch. He is the only reason why so many Melbourne players are wanting to leave.
Melbourne should be paying his whole wages & giving a club a draft pick to get rid of him.
If they had done it earlier maybe some of there players may have stayed around.
Its a shame he is a good player but he may destroy your clubs culture.
The only reason? yeah na.

I reckon with a bit of effort and clever use of the search function, I could find examples of you shitting on every player on our list.

There’s truly no one you like.
Look forward to the same poster rekindling the “Eagles are weak and got fleeced again” schtick when we don’t extract a premium pick for Liam “next to useless”’Ryan.

Probably the big question is whether an average to good Victorian team would have interest in trading for Steele; if so then we probably don't have much of a chance. Hawthorn has been gunning for mids but Merrett seems to be their main target. Would Essendon have interest to back-fill from losing Merrett? Who knows, lots of moving parts.

Adelaide might also have interest after missing on Petracca.

There are some very good (albeit aging) premium mids available like Petracca, Oliver, Merrett, and Steele so it would be disappointing if we didn't manage to land one of them given the widely-stated desire to provide Harley with more support and protection next year.
I am sure the saints would do a swap for Ryan. Then we tell Steele, he will be in the leadership group, throw a million bucks at him or more and tell him he will lead our midfield.

Fair enough. I have no faith in whoever is in charge of our NGA selections. Lost Erasmus because he didnt get our one email. Then the one the other day to Freo, I forget his name but he wasnt even in our zone.

Erasmus was 5 years ago and at a time when we had cut staff due to covid

Robinson is the other player you’re talking about and we had him in our NGA before someone alerted Fremantle that they could poach him based on where his parents lived or some such. It was a grey area and hardly the fault of the club

Robinson? There was some weird thing where he was already in our academy, Freo complained and got him changed. Something about Lake Grace (his club) being in our zone but his actual residence being over the border in their zone.

Not sure that’s on our people.

Right, offer him another year or two at good money and let him know that he'll have a home in the guts.

Given that he's widely respected as a leader and a tough player, culturally it would be an excellent fit. I'd be shocked (and very disappointed) if they weren't sounding out him and his agent almost immediately and seeing how open he is to move west. If they're serious about bringing in that type of established veteran inside mid to support Harley then Steele would have to be Option A, especially given that a trade would be pretty easy to work out since we have a contracted player who wants to move to St Kilda.

Speaking of academies, does anyone have any knowledge of Leon Kickett (SD) and whether he would have qualified for either WA’s side’s NGA?

Looks like he was in our academy back in 2021, along with Malakai Champion.

Is this gonna be another one that slips through our fingers?

We couldn't get Erasmus anyway, he went in the first round.

It was that Bulldogs bloke, Arthur Jones, that we ended up missing out on, because he wasn't signed up despite training with our NGA.

Only had 2 spots that year anyway and ended up with Baker and Dewar.

If Steele is already on pretty big money then that nullifies the only real card we had to play to entice him. Unless we want to make him the highest paid player on our list which wouldn't be wise.

I would be pretty sure we would have spoken to his manager some time ago, just as all clubs speak to all player managers, and the fact that there is no indication of us pursuing him would suggest the answer was a firm No and we have moved on.

Depends if it was front loaded.

Yes it is. We went to the AFL asking for help and part of that was getting Starcevich in for free and not diluting the Allen compensation. Surely you are aware of this.
I’ll add to this that none of us know what contract value is being offered to Allen or how borderline it is between generating band 1 or band 2 compensation

It may very well be that we need to give up that end of R1 PP to ensure Brisbane lodge a contract that secures pick 2 for us

If we get pick 2 for Allen and land Starcevich without losing any games f our natural picks then that’s a win imo

Some won’t see it that way though

If he's the reason that everyone wants to leave why wouldn't they just trade him and keep everyone else, rather than trading him and also trading everyone else?

You can't argue that under normal circumstances a player who is worth a 6 year deal on 900k to you isn't worth pick 20 or thereabouts at the trade table.

The issue is his concussions. I am happy with what they are doing generally and prepared to risk the pick 20. But i think that 6 years with 5 of them guaranteed is way too risky for somebody with Starcevich's concussion issues. There need to be protections built into the contract that limit the pay out in the worst case scenario. He should not be being guaranteed any more than 3 years.
