A four year contract for J.Worpel (same age, more matches) only managed end-of-second-round compensation.
That's currently pick 42 - and it will continue to slide down.

The contract offer on J.Worpel is believed to be 4 years averaging around the $600k mark.

Is B.Starcevich worth significantly more than that from a contractual basis, given he missed 3 months of this year through concussion, and may be just one bump away from forced retirement?
The difference is that players are actually willing to take market value or even slight unders to play for Geelong, due to them always being good and in Victoria.

That said I thought he was just doing what list managers should, try and get the best deal they can for the club.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Lets not get any radical ideas here. As long as the list manager makes sure that all contracted players who want to leave get to their destination club, and all oppo teams who trade with us get overs, then thats good enough for West Coast.

Keys to add to your list of conspiracies, does the Oscar Allen band 1 compensation hinge on Brisbane being satisfied with the trade for Starcevich? A gift from Greg Swann in lieu of actually compelling the Eagles to hand over the compo pick to Brisbane. If Brisbane give the okay, the AFL signs off on band 1. If Brisbane gives a nay, the magic formula suddenly spits out band 2.
Band 2 and we match then take starcivich as a free agent

I want the best deal possible as well, but Starc is being offered more money and more years, by all reports. So it's apples and oranges. Pick 37 is not fair value but hopefully we play hardball and don't give up more than a pick in the 20s.
I would be happy to give up the PP for starcivich + 45 then trade 45 for young .

Starcivich and young for PP

FWIW picks 17 + 23 are worth around the same as pick 7, so there is nothing in it for GC to do a swap. We would need to give them extra points value this year or they are just helping us out for the sake of it and only we do that.
They would save a ridiculous amount of points if we don’t bid on their two academy prospects which are ranked top 5.

That’s what’s in it for them.

Feel like it's too much for starcevich but yea feel like this is where its headed. Think we'll have a deal for Young quite soon so wont be included. Hope we get a future 2nd back if we give the PP.

Doesn’t look like we have a ruck on the way. Be interesting to see if we use one of the rookie spots for a state league ruck that we think might be able to transition to an AFL ruck.

Crows and Freo looking at moving picks around to get McVee and Ah Chee trades done, you’d hope our Draft board is pretty organised to be able to judge if some of these trades would work for us before deals start to go down.

To be honest, I'm f**ked right off about the whole situation.

What would B.Starcevich be worth alone as a free agent?

He is not even a midfielder - why on earth would the club consider trading away the type of pick that could could be used to make a genuine difference in the middle on another back flanker?

We have pick 37, offer that and nothing more. If Brisbane don't like it, call Sydney, Geelong and Collingwood - I'm sure they have a good amount of interest in O.Allen that would still deliver pick 2. Heck, tell Carlton they can take O.Allen, move on C.Curnow for picks and then have the currency for swings at C.Oliver or Z.Merrett.

I'm sick to death of the being friendly, good-relations shit that gets served up every year. The club has won just 11 times from the last 85 matches - it has no friends. The rest of the competition isn't handing up any feel-good offers now because of how the Eagles have been such great trading partners over the years, it's trying to pick away what it can and capitalise on the club's unfortunate position.

Brisbane already have enough falling their way through the ridiculous bidding system that has allowed them to build a dynasty through father/son and academy in a way that clubs like our own never can. D.Annable will become their third top 5 pick in the last four years - during a period where they also traded out first round picks to bring in J.Dunkley.

By comparison, H.Reid remains the only top 5 pick West Coast has had since A.Gaff in 2010.

The absurdity of back-to-back premiers taking the captain of the wooden spooners through free agency seems to be lost throughout current media discussions. It is an open demonstration of how broken the current system is.

As for T.Young, he is not even on Richmond's main list. Offering pick 56 would be generous for a rookie-listed player coming out of contract that has flagged their public intention to move on.
Some have mentioned us offering our R2 in response to Brisbane requesting 16 but I do wonder if we've offered the Hawks' R2 instead. Why would Brisbane leak such a request for a 1-pick upgrade? Worpel is a great comparison.

Pick 37 is a second round pick and is fair value. Take it or leave it 🤔

That’s what’s in it for them.
And that points saving is worth pick 20. ie. someone would have to give Gold Coast 740 more points than us.

Okay who is Sam Power and what has happened to Matt Clarke!!!!
Must say Power was very good in the role.

Tom McCarthy's on our rookie list - but I don't think anyone would be happy with trading him for pick 56 if he was wanting to leave... (just saying that being on the rookie list isn't a final arbiter of value)

The Hawks had already found out what we are still working out. He does not get the ball enough period.
Except the hawks were desperate to keep him.

We have terrible midfield, terrible supply and our entries I50 are rubbish. Unless you have a pair of hands like bear traps ala Waterman (or Shanahan) chances are you’re gonna have your work cut out for you in our forward line.

While not prolific I thought Brockman displayed his talent throughout the year in difficult circumstances.

Clarke kept trying to make false equivelances when asked questions about Starcevich's concussion issues by suggesting all players have the same issue and his case is no more cause for alarm than any other player. That is clearly not the case. He is at more risk than the average player. He also dodged the question (and thank you that somebody actually asked him) if there are protections built in for the club in his contract. I am going to assume after that we ae completely unprotected and will be paying him out in full if he gets medically retired.
