People were suggesting 17, 23 and 37.

That's only 280 points or so in the new system.

I don't think 'we traded 1500 points for 1500 points coz nothing to see here' will cut it. Happy to be wrong but I think it's more likely we give them a 500+ point surplus going into the draft then as things play out that equalises with live trades.

We could do 17, 23, 24 for 7 and a swap of their F1 for our F2. Then their guys go say 5 and 10, and we reverse the 2026 swap and get pick 20 or 25 back this year. Something like that.

Clarke kept trying to make false equivelances when asked questions about Starcevich's concussion issues by suggesting all players have the same issue and his case is no more cause for alarm than any other player. That is clearly not the case. He is at more risk than the average player. He also dodged the question (and thank you that somebody actually asked him) if there are protections built in for the club in his contract. I am going to assume after that we ae completely unprotected and will be paying him out in full if he gets medically retired.
Of course you are. You could make assumptions for Australia.

So, for those who is how have not been glued to trade radio today,

Anyone wanna give a cliff notes recap of what, if anything, went down today.

Thanks

Do we need to keep a pick aside for that Tylah Williams guy?

want
Think he'll be round 3 or undrafted and we'll pre list him in the PSD. He's too light a frame I think so may sneak through. Him and Banners are the ones to warch that could mess up our plans.

You got it in one.

Only things that marginally impact us are Fiorini is leaving GC to go to Essendon, but to preserve their Draper compo the Bombers will be sending a future third or fourth. No points relief for GC yet.

Also Adelaide have ruled out 15 being used to get Ah Chee from Brisbane, which impacts their points chase, which impacts us etc etc

Nothing else of substance, but tune in tomorrow for 50 more pages of body language assessment and bed wetting!

You'd think a bed could only get so wet...

Clarke said they'd been working with Starcevich's management about his contract. Doubt he's going to divulge if their is some kind of clause in his contract regarding concussion's. Also got to remember the afl probably has rules about what you can and can't put into contract's.

And also what you can and cannot divulge publicly about a players health.

About 95% chance the pick we give Richmond for 27 year old Young would be better than whatever pick we get for 22 year old former R1 pick Chesser.

The fact that Chesser has played 36 mostly bad matches in the four years since he was drafted is a lot more relevant to his trade value than being picked 14th overall.

Maybe Freo should offer Melbourne a turd in a box since McVee was only the 18th pick in that year’s rookie draft.

I think it was interesting hearing Clarke say he see's the Oscar Allen deal and the Starcevich trade as two separate entities independent of each other. He also said if the Eagles feel the compensation isn't enough they have the right to match it and trade. This might be a butt clenching situation where we wait until the end of free agency and see who blinks first.

I watched the Brisbane presser and they basically said "the eagles are the ones concerned with compensation" and that with the Starcevich trade "they'd expect something very very good" but didn't give away what pick they were interested in.

Feel like it's too much for starcevich but yea feel like this is where its headed. Think we'll have a deal for Young quite soon so wont be included. Hope we get a future 2nd back if we give the PP.
I just feel like the hawks pick 37 is too low for young .

Young was a rookie and was still on the rookie list . Richmond cant expect much for him .

But getting 2 best 22 players for the priority pick would be ok .

Much rather trade 37 for starcivich and 55 for young

Probably just the standard pre-signing lobotomy to check for CTE.

Except the hawks were desperate to keep him.

We have terrible midfield, terrible supply and our entries I50 are rubbish. Unless you have a pair of hands like bear traps ala Waterman (or Shanahan) chances are you’re gonna have your work cut out for you in our forward line.

While not prolific I thought Brockman displayed his talent throughout the year in difficult circumstances.

He no doubt has talent, but I was referring to another poster stating we should run him through the midfield. To do that the bare minimum per match is 20 disposals.
I like him with ball in hand.

Well the great joy of having a 1 win season and finishing last is that we actually have the ability this year to walk someone to the pre-season draft without any risk that a Richmond or North Melbourne will take him before we can pick.

In this sense we are in a much stronger position this year than compared to prior years.

Lions should be thankful we give anything. Their FA acquisitions would mean they'd get zero compensation for Starcevich

Another thing is when Brisbane were asked about bringing in players they said "We're getting in Oscar" kinda like this had been agreed upon in advance it was a sure thing.

You stated that Hawthorn were keen to let him leave, which is just not true.

The 4 weeks R8-11we rotated him through the midfield he had 5,4,3,3 clearances even though it was only from 20-33% CBA.

Hewett doesn’t average 20D, yet plays mid.

As far as CBA and stoppages around the ground, I’d say Brockman has looked more dynamic. Ironically Hewett is better at stoppages in F50.

Giving Brockman some time in the midfield is a good idea if he is in the 23.
