Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

The inclusion of pick 22 has swung this from a great result to a poor result for mine.

On paper it looks alright: upgrading pick 16 to pick 12 in exchange for downgrading 23 to 33 is a fair trade in isolation. Which means we’ve given up pick 22 to bring in Starcevich and pick 52. Again, probably fair on paper.

But it just feels like we’ve tried to be the nice guys again rather than try to press any leverage we might have had.

And that’s without raising any questions about Starcevich, like do we really need him, and how long will he last before he gets one head knock too many?

Anyway, see what the rest of the trade period brings but for the moment I’ve got one foot in the unhappy camp.
Plus guaranteeing pick #2 instead of risking it, plus dev delisting (so we can SSP him into a rookie list spot - or more importantly keep a main list spot at the draft for academy guys in case).

Those things were probably going to happen anyway, but should be guaranteed now.

We gave up a big asset for a player who is not a position of need. We simply picked a player up because he answered the phone as opposed to headhunted a positional need

While Geelong is out there saying "we need a ruck" and then getting Rowan Marshall to agree to join we seem to just be calling people up based on the basis that they know where Scarbarough Beach is and picking our targets based on whether they want to come home for a surf
Yeah strange how a Victorian team that is always good and just played in the grand final is having an easier time attracting talent than a team from the most isolated major city in the world which has just had one of the worst four-year runs in AFL/VFL history.

Not a position of need. Are you ****ing blind. Starcevich and young shore up our defence. Cole can play WAFL. It frees up hough and/or ginbey.

We are getting Dev as a mid. And another likely as rookie.

And the mids mids mids for the draft.

The ruck, yeh that will have to wait, unless there's a point deal to the suns that includes Knobel!
Duggan can join Cole at the WAFL, he can dump kick all he likes in that competition,

This just isnt true. We dont need a small defender in anyway

FB: Hough, H.Edwards, Ginbey
HB: McCarthy, Young, Yeo

Thats fine. What isnt is Harley Reid getting smashed to bits again cos Tim Kelly is the only big body to provide support.... like id have thought that was the issue to fix as opposed to adding Starcevich to this Duggan/Yeo/Cole/Baker/Allan grouping of who can fill that 6th defensive spot

I've calmed down a little, but not anticipating it to last very long.
The 4 pick upgrade on 17 to 13 better get us a significantly better player, or we'll have missed out an extra decent player at pick 22 like Curtain, Swaddling or Rodrigo. Otherwise we might miss out on bundling the picks required to get one of GC's top 10 picks.
Sad The Office GIF

Hoping Saint get Geelong first rounder for there ruckman pick 18
Then offer that to us for Liam Ryan

So not only did Brisbane get pick 22 for starcivich who would have gone for nothing to most teams they upgraded

19 > 16
46 > 44
52 > 50

****ing BS
This is moot. We wanted him so we had to trade for him. The alternative is to take him for nothing and dilute the Allen compensation. The only reason to be upset about trading for Starcevich, is if you are more interested in Brisbane getting worse, rather than focusing on us getting better.

Every team in this trade gets better.

If you compartmentalize the trade, it comes out as something like:

12+33+52 for 16+22
And
23 for Starcevich

We've neither fleeced the others, nor been fleeced by them.

I guess sometimes trades are just about clubs finding solutions that benefit for all parties, not tearing each other apart.
If you want quality you have to be prepared to do quality trades in return.

Next you will be telling me St Kilda are a major destination club and are a better club then us to join, they are doing very well this last 2 years

What very good midfielder should the Eagles be acquiring? Note that it has to be a player who wants to come play for the worst team in the comp.

It’s a fine deal at best, the thing that annoys me is it’s yet another deal where we’ve made sure the other teams involved get to achieve their goals from the trade and we’re left just going yeah that’s okay.
Much better to not achieve our goals but also block other clubs?

It’s a cracking deal, we just almost had a once in a generation lopsided deal in our favour with the drip feed reporting.

Firstly, he isn't just a small defender, he is one of the best lock down defenders in the comp.

It's called flexibility and depth.

Yeo...that hasn't happened yet.
Cole maggoos
Baker freed up to play mid/forward.
Allen will be with the mids
Duggan can warm the bench
Hough can now be swung into tagging roles in the midfield if we need.
Ginbey, maybe he can rotate through the midfield a bit too.
Tmac will definately run thru the mids I suspect too.

Now the coach has magnets to play with, stop gaps when things aren't working, players for special roles for specific opposition.

Hang on everyone, Twomey is posting part 376 of his 495 part series about the particulars of this deal.
Melbourne get custody of Pick 23 on alternating weekends, ****ing Clarke got rinsed :(
