Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

There is opportunity to fleece Essendon if they really want Duursma. Pick 1 for 5 and 6 would be a dream trade. But they would want something back most likely. We'll see how badly they want him.

Its right on the money. Pick 1 for 5 and 6 as they become live 9 and 10.

We traded pick 2 for live 9 and 14 in 2022.

Do you understand that if another club bids on him in the top 40 of the draft then we don't get him? All the time and money and investment we have put in over however many years goes down the drain?

Was moving from 16 to 12 even that important?

Was quite happy with just keeping 16 tbh, unless we were going to use it to trade back into the top 10.

Seems like the sort of move you'd make on draft night, because x player is still on the board. A marginal shift 4 spots now is a bit odd. Daresay Farrow is going to be the target here.
It's probably not high enough for Farrow. 3 academy players plus Dean. Farrow goes before 16 in any of the draft lists I've seen. I agree 12 isn't a great spot, likely good enough for a slider but it has to be one you want.

I know you’re all enjoying a new definition of what woke means however it’s only the second best Trumpster comment of the last week.

A few days ago he called Covid-19 a ‘scamdemic’ and then, a few posts later, berated posters for taking the opinions of people on the internet seriously compared to verified sources.

Yes, this was all related to AFL free agency.

Why does everything have to be thought of in such a selfish manner? This is a teenage kid hoping to do whatever he can to jumpstart a potential dream career in the AFL, and we're saying he should arrogantly play silly games to help West Coast out?

Like who the **** do we think we are?

100% and the answer is this below:

There is no point. There is no guarantee or contract that he gets drafted to the Eagles so why would he jeopardise his overall chances of getting drafted. Even if the club verbally said we want you, you aren’t taking that risk.

Like I'm going to put my entire future into the hands of an organisation that could get a deal on draft night that removes lists spots and not recruit me after making sure no other club could see my potential by tanking the combine.

Far out.

Trade is something of a nil all draw

Our PP for Starcevich which was the likely outcome from the moment we were granted it by the AFL

The rest is a rearrangement of picks that moves 16 into 12 and splits 23 into 33 and 52 - a total of 13 points lost

After the OA compo we have picks 1,2 and 13 to use in the draft plus 34,38,53 and 58 as pieces to help facilitate bringing in Young and exiting Ryan and Chesser. Any surplus goes towards matching bids on a possibly rising Williams, Banfield and Evans

We’ve achieved improving our Hawthorn R1 pick by 4 places whilst bringing in Starcevich and splitting a pick we perhaps weren’t going to use into two later picks that give us sine flexibility with other trades

Did we make out like bandits? No, but we weren’t reamed either in a trade that’s a rare example of all three teams achieving their goals without any clear winners or losers

It’s a good bit of business in isolation that can only be fully assessed when other trades are finalised
Completely agree.
I think Young probably gets to us with the Chesser pick.
This will leave 34, 38 to trade up with leave the Ryan trade also swinging into next year for the right price STK R2nd.

Pick 13 falls into the Farrow draft range and would be a decent get.

Otherwise 2 options present, trade 13, 35, 38 for GC for pick 7 and GC F3rd.
This gets us Duursma/Sharp/Cumming and leaves a couple of picks for matching bids.

Or ESS do what they say and come for pick 1 and pay overs with 5 & 6.
We go to the draft with Sharp at 2, Cumming at 5, Schubert at 6 and keep 13 for Farrow and keep other picks to make sure we match bids on any players bid on early.

If Farrow looks like he will be likely taken earlier we could package up pick 13 and 38 for CAR pick 10.
4 picks in the top 10, push all other picks including Ryan trade into 2026.

Its right on the money. Pick 1 for 5 and 6 as they become live 9 and 10.

We traded pick 2 for live 9 and 14 in 2022.
Was initially off Duursma but I'm actually pretty keen on him now. If we could swing sharp and Schubert or Cumming at 12 or Farrow if they dont get through match 1 or 2 NGAs the total trade/draft period looks pretty solid.

He has a point now we will have to match a much earlier bid than before the combine
You realise that the point of the NGA system is to encourage AFL clubs to invest in kids to increase indigenous representation and participation and give them better pathways into becoming professional footballers, not so that clubs can try to squirrel away diamonds in the rough? Telling a teenaged kid to not go to Melbourne for a once in a lifetime opportunity to show what he can do against his peers would be some real scumbag behaviour.

2023 called, and they want their NGA bid matching rules back.

If we do still get pick 2 for OA, what about this? Picks 2 + 12 for picks 4 + 5?
We would end up with picks 1, 4, 5 in the top 10
I do wonder if the bombers try to keep 6, but GC get involved (draft night live trade) and include 7 or 8 (whichever they hold).

We give 1 plus something later (30ish), get 5+7 (and keep 12).

Bombers give 4+24&25 (end up with say 1&6).

GC give 7, get 24, 25, 30 (net points gain)

Not sure it is quite right but probably ballpark for us (taking 2, 5, 7, 12 in the draft).

We need to take a chance on Elijah Holland's for Chesser

Yeah I kinda like the risk/reward with this one. If we can only get a junk pick and that we can't package with something to upgrade then I wouldn't be against a straight swap.

In saying that I'd rather keep Chesser.

Why is there so much interest in Farrow after we now have Starcevich?

Ginbey, Baker, Hough, Allan, Starcevich, McCarthy, Grego, Cole, Duggan and possibly Duursma. That’s 10.

Do we really need more non KP defenders?

I just don't see him as a relevant player for us. We need territory and that means stoppage, and forward half pressure.

I wouldn't discount Farrow from becoming a mid but it's highly speculative and I wouldn't trust us to be the club to let that happen.

Cole and Duggan ideally phased out within a year or two

Also think Ginbey can eventually be our second kpd in time, considering how effective he is against the likes of Cameron.

watching farrow he gets a lot of kick ins and racks up back line kick around and switches .

His pre draft concerns were lack of pace .

Getting witherden vibes
