List Changes - 2025
In:
  • Brandon Starcevich arrives at West Coast in a three team deal
  • Tylar Young (Richmond) arrived at West Coast in exchange for Pick 38.
  • Deven Robertson (Brisbane) has agreed to join West Coast and will be signed on to the rookie list after being delisted by Brisbane
Out:
  • Oscar Allen joins Brisbane as a FA - West Coast receive Pick 2 as compensation
  • Liam Ryan and a 2027 R3 pick has been traded to St Kilda for a 2026 R2 pick
  • Campbell Chesser has been traded to Carlton for Pick 41
  • Jayden Hunt announces retirement
  • Jack Petruccelle, Callum Jamieson and Loch Rawlinson not offered new contracts
  • Coen Livingstone joins the list of players not offered a new contract

Players Out of Contract - 2025 (0)
  • Jamie Cripps and Malakai Champion seem to have been offered new contracts despite there being no official announcement. Means that all players out of contract for 2025 have been given new contracts despite or removed from the playing list

2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

If we get the negatives of a wooden spoon, it's worth getting the benefits of the media coverage and accolades of our player being Pick 1.
Maybe but in the long run who really gives a shit. Takes away some of the pressure from the young draftee too.

So how does the list look?

Assumptions:
- eaglevision has input to say that Maric and Hutch were upgraded to the senior list
- Young will be a trade, hopefully 52 but it could be 38 or 34
- Ryan and Chesser are out the door
- not heard about Livinsgtone so he is out the door or waiting for the draft t see his future
- Cripps needs to be re-categorised to the rookie list - hence the delay in his announcement
- Draft hand picks 1 2 13 34 38 52 57

We now have 48 spots available. Up to 38 senior, the standard 4 x Rookie Cat A and 2 x Cat B, plus an additional 4 rookie spots for 3 years.

We will only be able to take 5 players in the draft. Likely 3 live picks and keep room for Tyler and Charlie IF bids come.

I would love the young deal be done for 52 and 57 and we just go into deficit in the future.

The Ryan and Chesser deals are also future picks

On draft night, we trade 13, 34 and 38 for 7

Given we’ve not needed it for any manoeuvres thus far, keeping our F2 is now a big priority.

The changes to matching bids next year, where you can only use two picks, means high end second rounders will be absolutely gold to some clubs.

Plenty of ways to move up to a GC 7/8 with our current hand alone.

I think we should explore trading our F2 into this draft, would love to keep pick 12 and still move up to the Suns pick 6 - are there teams who’d trade multiple 20’s picks for our F2?

No

Our draft hand is fine as is and we have options other than using a future pick to shift 13 up the order.

If anything we should adding picks for 2026 - deeper draft with tighter rules on matching plus our own NGA prospects to consider

Assuming that Uwland and Patterson are bid on by the Bombers, the Suns will require MINIMUM 3000 points to match (post-discount).

This will swallow up picks 6, 14, & 17.
Pick 7 will likely be used for the Petracca trade.

I don't think the Suns can trade away any of their top 4 selections without going into serious points deficit, or doing some magic with a F1 trade.

Happy to hear a different opinion.

13,34,38 = 1717 points. They wouldn't do it until after the draft started though because of the pick loss from list spot deficit issue. I think I would prefer to package up some of the chesser incoming pick/s but this would work.

one of the easiest and most obvious ways is on draft night, 13 + 34 + 38 for 7 (and ask for a F3 back)

Okay, now it’s officially official

Needed that quadruple confirmation to believe it.

Great work Keys.

What I take from that is we definately need to transfer one if not two players off the main list.

If we dont we basically take ourselves out of the draft after our 3rd 1st rounder, currently 12.

Then keep a min of two list spot open with picks just in case Evans or Banfield get bids.

That is not very flexible and we basically miss out on accessing half the draft. Feel crook imagining it. So the club needs to pull some lever's there for sure.

So we need to move two blokes onto the rookie list. And hope we end up with two picks to land Rodreguez around 35ish and Curtin late.

That does reduce the number of mature types we can bring in down to 1?
Can we not hold over some contract renewals (Cripps + others) until after the draft?

Keeps the list spot open should we get unexpected NGA bids, and then we can delist and SSP them if needed. If not, we just lodge the contract post-draft.

With our NGA and father sons this year, I’d imagine we are only going to use 3 picks before banking the rest to match.

See if we can package 13 and Chesser for Carlton’s 10 or look at futures.

Not sure how Ryan gets done without future’s.

If we trade back from 1 or 2 would say it will involve a pick this year and futures.

Great start to trade period.

Great work, just one thing to note - there is a maximum of 2 cat b rookies. If Walley and Evans get through the draft we would need to keep a rookie cat A spot to move to upgrade champion if we wanted total both Walley and Evans.

Also in relation to Gold Coast and their points - they will lose more than just pick 7 or 8 trading for Petracca

Melbourne will want 2x R1 picks for him at least

This is good for both clubs, but the AFL wouldn't sign it off because the points deficit makes it obvious we're using bidding as part of the trade. Needs some additional confusing elements to get it over the line, like our 37/Chesser compensation/Ryan compensation + F3 for their F2.
Points deficit is within 10%. Surely that's within the realms of normalcy if we fancy a certain player at 6? Sides make significantly bigger mistakes in trades than awarding their co-trader 10% additional value.

Got good value for Oscar allen happy to help him go chase flags for pick 2.

Yeah Oscar, I always work for the company who offers me the least amount of money, mans gotta have ethics.
The funny thing is that if push came to shove and we really wanted him to stay, we could and would easily offer more than Brisbane. We wanted him to go because the #2 pick is more valuable to us than Allen on about a million a year.

I get the feeling that clubs are going to be more aggressive this year in the bidding process.

It appears the inaction by the AFL regarding fixing the DVI over several years has led to Brisbane & more than likely being Gold Coast being hard to compete against.
