Victoria can add 'Coronavirus capital of Australia' to their long list of capital titles.

Coronavirus is a hipster trend.

So we're expecting a deconstructed version to appear any day now?

That, and the Northcote virus is more authentic that Fitzroy's. Fitzroy's Coronavirus is totally played out.

So where will we play footy given by end of Rd 5 have played 2 Qld teams and 2 WA teams and the crows?

A Vic hub for 2 or 3 weeks? A NSW hub for a 2 or 3 weeks?

The South Australian Government will reopen the state's borders to Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory from midnight as it further accelerates the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

The change means travellers from those jurisdictions will no longer need to isolate themselves for 14 days when they arrive in South Australia.

SA Premier Steven Marshall today said a decision to open the Queensland border is also under consideration.

Whilst the change applies for travellers coming into SA, the Premier said it would be up to other states to decide whether similar arrangements will apply for South Australian residents travelling interstate.

South Australia will open all its borders to all states by July 20.

More to come.

International travellers from UK.

The new Covid-19 cases in New Zealand are two women from the United Kingdom who were allowed to travel to Wellington on compassionate grounds, director general of health Ashley Bloomfield says.

Both cases are from the same family. One of the women is in her 30s and the other is in her 40s.

They were visiting a relative in Wellington, who has since died. Bloomfield said the pair drove from Auckland to Wellington for the visit. The women had been careful not to put anyone at risk, he said, and the women had not stopped for petrol and had gone to the toilet on the side of the road.

"In this instance, the women did everything that was asked of them," Bloomfield says. He said the women's car was a private car dropped off to them from a relative.

Two teens flee from isolation after being let out for funeral
Bloomfield confirmed that two Hamilton teenagers were granted an exemption to attend a funeral and ran off afterwards. They have since been located, and one is in managed isolation, while the other is in an agreed community arrangement. He did not know how many days their whereabouts were unknown.

British women's movements in New Zealand
The two British women were in managed isolation from their arrival in New Zealand on June 7 and permitted to leave Auckland to travel to Wellington on June 13 in a private vehicle, he said. The vehicle was dropped to their hotel and drove to Wellington, where they only had contact with one family member.

Marshall's presser with Wade and deputy CMO Michael Cusack.

Direct travel from WA,NT and Tas won't have to isolate. Can't dodge it if go via 1 of these 3 jurisdictions.

Those from these 3 jurisdictions in self isolation in SA will be

Public assemblies up to 300 permitted. Indoor clases 10 limit, will go to 20 if 1 person per 7m2 met, for gyms/fitness classes, dance classes and yoga classes.

Legal advise about restrictions without due cause has prompted advancing removal of restrictions from safer states.

Still looking at removing rest of border restrictions on or before 20th July.

I agree with Steven Marshall on this one. The SA Government has it exactly right as opening our borders with WA, NT and Tasmania sends the clear message that SA is open for business to States and Territories that have the virus under control. Queensland is close with just 7 cases in 3 weeks but they are not quite there yet.

FIFO AFL footy out of Adelaide is under real threat unless the bigger States get their act together. I can see the SA teams going into a hub in NSW or Victoria until the cases in those States decrease dramatically. If the AFL wasn't run by Victorians the decision would be made to locate the Victorian teams to hubs in WA, SA, Qld, NSW Tasmania and the NT. It is the most logical course of action at this stage and we know that is the reason it will not happen.

Maybe it's just me but 'unearthed' doesn't seem the right word.

Someone should have told the Kiwis about the South Australian experience.

Both cases were travelers from the UK in NZ for a funeral. Hopefully they have not passed the virus on.

So you do not think a State with two cases in 52 days, both imported from overseas, is close to eliminating the virus? You think that if the State in which you reside cannot do it no else should be allowed to?
My view is fatalist not parochial. The cities with densest populations are the ones around the world where it just keeps coming. Waiting forever for Melbourne/Sydney to resolve is unlikely to be a bet that wins. The will to attempt elimination is weak, the financial support for the potentially infected is non-existent, it isnt happening.

Gotta do what we can but accept ppl will get sick and hope its staggered enough

You know those precious players at Victorian clubs cannot be away from mummies bosom for more that a few days for 1 interstate game. No chance in the world they go to a hub for 3 weeks or more.

Brisbane by the end of the week. It is interesting that the WA premier has pointed out his legal advice is all of the states open to WA or all closed. Sounds like regardless of what we do WA/Queensland/NY will leave their borders closed or subject to quarantine.

Remember a few months ago when I said that you should look at the links these scientists have with the Chinese Communist Party?

Some 54 scientists have resigned or been fired as a result of an ongoing investigation by the National Institutes of Health into the failure of NIH grantees to disclose financial ties to foreign governments. In 93% of those cases, the hidden funding came from a Chinese institution.

Lauer also presented data on the nature of the violations that NIH has uncovered. Some 70% (133) of the researchers had failed to disclose to NIH the receipt of a foreign grant, and 54% had failed to disclose participation in a foreign talent program. In contrast, Lauer said, only 9% hid ties to a foreign company, and only 4% had an undisclosed foreign patent. Some 5% of cases involved a violation of NIH’s peer-review system.

First drug proves able to improve survival from COVID-19, trial shows

We may have a promising treatment on our hands based on this English study (results will be published soon). A few quotes:

A low-cost, widely used anti-inflammatory drug has improved survival in patients with COVID-19, scientists say, the first treatment to show lifesaving promise months into the pandemic.

Researchers in England say the steroid called dexamethasone reduced deaths by up to one third in severely ill hospitalised patients.

"This is an extremely welcome result," one study leader, Peter Horby of the University of Oxford, said in a statement. "The survival benefit is clear and large in those patients who are sick enough to require oxygen treatment, so dexamethasone should now become standard of care in these patients. Dexamethasone is inexpensive, on the shelf, and can be used immediately to save lives worldwide.

Yeah heard that on the BBC last night. The critical stage is the peer review which happens next. We really want scientists outside of Oxford to confirm the findings.

The thought is this drug may be used in conjunction with anti viral drugs such as remdesivir which has been shown to speed up recovery time.

Good news for sure, let us hope the results are collaborated over the coming weeks.

The UK Government is not wasting any time as they have already started to issue the drug within the NHS and have apparently been stockpiling dexamethasone since March. As Australia does not have a critical number of ICU patients I guess we do not need to stockpile at this stage. We can afford to wait for the peer review confirmation then build up stocks for future use.

So our organisation's first live event since the COVID restrictions were put in place will be in Adelaide, followed closely by Perth.
With the borders opening up with WA, we can bring in a speaker from over west, and fly them back with no issues.

Still can't do events in NSW and VIC.

The WA border is open one way at the moment, so you can bring them in, but not send them back without issues.
