If Wines is suspended what happens to Channel Seven? They are complicit so surely the AFL has to sanction one of it's broadcast partners? As a partner of the AFL shouldn't they have known the rules?

Maybe they will be banned from televising the showdown. That will not happen of course but SEVEN are just as guilty as Ollie Wines.

Seven Adelaide are in bed with the Crows, we know this. Seven National, maybe not so much. Theo has done his job well..he will feature at awards night.

Eight more positive tests in Victoria today. Only four from quarantine the rest from the community including one from last weekend's BLM protest rally. Hopefully that is contained and does not become another serious cluster.

Not sure how any organisation headquartered in Melbourne can be telling the rest of Australia what we should be doing?

TEN News carried a story that an announcement on the SA WA and NT borders will be made tomorrow. What is the point of SA teams going into a WA based hub anyway? Port will have played both WA teams so a hub in WA and SA with Victorian teams seems the most logical solution as teams will be able to fly between Perth and Adelaide.

On a national scale the COVID-19 problem lies squarely within Victoria's border and the AFL will have to face the prospect that all Victorian teams may have to relocate to hubs in WA, SA and possibly Qld. Six teams in each of WA, SA and Qld would buy the AFL another 4/5 weeks and by that time things may have eased in Victoria.

Some pretty grim statistics from overseas. Brazil is on track to become the most heavily hit COVID-19 nation on the planet.

India is under real strain. Infections are now over 250k and the Indian health system isn't coping.

I heard a couple of BBC interviews with people in India who tried to get help for COVID infected relatives but were refused admission to hospitals. One man went to nine different hospitals and couldn't get his father admitted and his father died. Another man drove around with his 30 year old pregnant wife and could not get a hospital bed she also died. Indians are resorting to social media with pleas for help and ICU beds for infected relatives.

Against this backdrop the Indian Government is opening up the economy and easing the lock downs. Unless they are careful or very lucky India could finish up like Brazil.

The figures from Sweden are a mixed bag. They had 1474 positive tests yesterday which seems extraordinarily high but had only 19 deaths. I guess the Swedes would argue they are well on the way to achieving herd immunity unfortunately if it is achieved it will have cost almost 5,000 lives with no prospect of the virus being completely eliminated from Swedish society and from all reports an economy that is in no better shape than the rest of Europe.

That would see some stadiums allowed to seat crowds of 10,000 people.

The Showdown we had to placate Adelaide, but I hope for our remaining home games it's 10k Port supporters / AO Members and no opposition or general admission. Or at least only oppositions that are based at stadiums that provide reciprocal allocation to travelling Port members. I'm ****ing tired of us acting nicely and no one else doing so in return.

South Australia border restrictions to be lifted on July 20

The SA Premier Mr Marshall said all SA border restrictions will be lifted on July 20. Here's the full story.

"Now, this could only be possible because of the massive improvement, right across the entire nation."

That followed that stage three restrictions will be moved forward again, to June 29 from July 3.

That means, in South Australia, the cap on people per room will be lifted from 20, which is where it is now, to enable as many people in a venue as can be hosted within a one person per four-square-metre limit.

As of next Friday, there will be a mini-relaxation of restrictions as well.

"We will be increasing that 20 person room limit to 75 and we will be moving from a total venue of 80 up to 300," Mr Marshall said.

SA's Chief Medical Officer Nicola Spurrier said the reason for this change, was due to data from overseas.

Around 27 minute mark Spurrier talks about casinos and gaming, says still looking at plans and talking to AHA but expects will open after stage 3 kicks in (which was slated for 6th July). Asked if there is a stage 4 or stage 5 or 6, said no but there are high risk activities night clubs and large live music festivals, for now stage 3 doesn't include them.

It will be interesting to see how the clubs handle that. How will they ration 10,000 seats per match out among 40,000 season ticket holders? You would think it would have to be some sort of rotation system so that every season ticket holder gets a chance to see a few games.

With the border changes and 10,000 crowd limits it looks like SA may be back in business after the hub. The AFL haven't announced the draw after round 5 but if they had a bye then restarted it would be within a day or so of the 20th July.

As I understand it, those who have tickets for tomorrow night will initially be excluded from future ballots until all fully paid members haBe the opportunity to attend a game. That would be the fairest option.

This morning's Showdown actually cracked a mention in the Chinese News Bulletin from Beijing. The Chinese News service reported that the crowd at Adelaide Oval was seen as a test case for the rest of Australia. Sandwiched between a story that China had completed an economic agreement with the ASEAN countries and a report that the Ukrainian President's wife had tested positive for COVID-19, Adelaide was on the world stage.

Last night's protest in Sydney was a bit of a fizzer as only about 300 people turned up and they decided to move away from the Town Hall. Only one infringement notice was handed out and the woman was released after being charged and the notice issued.

Good that it all ended peacefully and without any major confrontation and hopefully the protest planned for today ends the same way.

Turns out we are far closer to the end of the pandemic in Australia than we believed 24 hours ago.

Even with Victoria reporting new cases there's been no uptick that would point to a second a wave. There's no news on hospitalisations so it would appear these cases are almost all mild. In fact, the potency of the virus has likely dropped to the point that health authorities wouldn't be able to detect it as people simply wouldn't bother getting tested. I don't doubt the real number of confirmed cases is probably higher than the official numbers but at this point it doesn't seem to matter.

The opening of SA borders can happen today with negligible risk. There's no material reason why it has to be July 20, at least none that we have been told. My suspicion is that the delay is intentional to get through as much of winter as possible before interstate travel resumes.

I reckon Marshall should just open the NT and Tassie borders and let anyone who wants to challenge the legality of keeping the others closed do so. At this stage Victoria and NSW have open borders and it is only QLD and WA who are hesitating.

There is a date of July 10 being bandied about for Qld but according to this morning's news Annastacia Palaszczuk has not confirmed it. As I read it that date was speculation from Morrison after yesterday's National Cabinet and an official announcement will not be made until later this month.

Annastacia Palaszczuk is under tremenous pressure from Queensland tourist operators who are also applying pressure to Morrison through Coalition and Cross Bench MPs.
