The tax raised is pretty much on par with attributable impact costs, of course not all the money goes where it should & is passed on to the tax payer with ridiculous information by way of 'intangible costs'.This isn’t fully correct. That $136B includes intangible costs such as loss of life, pain and suffering and premature mortality. In realised costs it’s more like $19B. Also since 2016 smoking has decreased from 12.8% in adults to 11.6% in 2019 so the actual impact is decreasing year on year too. Also in 2020 FY tobacco tax contributed $17.4B
