Why do people think that we should be having less restrictions within SA because we've opened up borders with interstate?

By opening up the borders to other states we've increased the exposure risk for South Australians. So any basic understanding of risk management would indicate that you either hold the same level of restrictions, or you increase them to counteract that increased risk.

You don't go and increase exposure risk and drop restrictions, which increases spread risk at the same time.
Because they're no longer pursuing an elimination strategy. Opening the borders was an acceptance that covid is gonna be circulating around.

Yes, so you keep up other restrictions which slows how much its circulating around. Basic risk management.

Or you do what WA did, drop pretty well all restrictions within the state but keep the borders closed to anyone that might bring COVID in.

I would prefer we wait until we have had boosters or only allow in those who have had boosters. They seem to be very effective in Israel.
I would prefer that another state was the test case rather than us. I guess that is selfish though.
This new system seems very disruptive to businesses too and without the financial safety net

We should have had the safety net payments agreed to before announcing the date publicly - absolutely wrong that we didn't.
We should have had every single vulnerable person i.e. immuno compromised, anyone over 60, first nations boosted before we opened
We should have waited until December 17th to let people in, even my daughter who is coming back next week

oh well we made a mistake, its all good, pollies don't sit again until May 3rd (correct?) and it will all be forgotten by then.

And its only SA, federal election is important in WA, QLD and NSW, who cares about SA.

Nicola can fix it with whichever staff were dumb enough not to book 8 weeks leave as soon as November 23rd was announced.
Just call them heroes a few times, clap a lot, say the right things often enough.

Look I did my visit a week ago, I don't need to go back again for months thank god.
Third most liveable city in the world, hold my beer, we'll fix that.
And if we have to close their borders again who cares, we had to test this out somewhere.
Ok lets do Tassie next.

So be quiet and deal with it.

On 5AA it’s being reported that an Adelaide top up player was admitted to hospital with pericarditis after being vaccinated.

It’s funny as **** listening to boomers try to justify the fact that a healthy 24 year old had a heart attack as being an acceptable risk.

You need to be more careful with the facts. Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium ( the thin sac around the heart) not a heart attack.

The amount of cut and paste scientific research you post, I thought you would have known that.

You would also know that most people recover from it.

Also are you aware that pericarditis can occur from covid19 infection too. Most recover from that too with supportive treatment.

But, more importantly, who on here would be celebrating that a young person is in hospital with pericarditis? Who? No one I know on here.

Exactly, what have we gained? We now have the virus in the community and we are being progressively shut out by other States and Territories. All they had to do was keep the Victorian border closed.

Queensland and Tasmania are opening their borders within the next fortnight. NT and WA will likely also open their borders within the next 3 months. Just curious as to how long the shut the borders brigade want to keep them closed for? Another month, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, forever? Covid-19 is endemic, it is NEVER going away. The point of the border closure was to eliminate Covid-19 in our State to protect the health system until we could get 80% of 16+ vaccinated. That was the reason, it was not done to permanently eliminate Covid-19 from S.A. The border is open, we now need to learn to live with a virus that is NEVER going away. People need to change their mindset. We were very lucky to get into the position we are in now when you compare what has happened overseas. Get vaccinated, wear a mask, wash and sanitise your hands regularly and social distance where possible. If you are worried about Covid-19, that has to be the new mindset - not "shut the borders" now that cases are appearing in the community.

So then don't open the borders.

Accept we're gonna have COVID in the community (in which case decrease restrictions) or don't (in which case don't open the borders).

A fair few Pentecostal church leaders are doing a lot of damage

According to SEVEN news there is a close contact exposure site in Pt Noarlunga and another in Reynella yet neither of these are listed as exposure sites on the SA Health web site. Dr Chris Moy was on the same SEVEN bulletin questioning why it took 3 days to list the Trinity Medical Centre in Port Adelaide as an exposure site. How can you isolate or even get tested if you do not know you have been in or near an exposure site? Looks like you have to tune into SEVEN News to find out if you have to get tested or monitor your health.

SA Health said the mystery case spent time in the Port Noarlunga region, and has urged anyone in the area to get tested if they have any symptoms and isolate until they receive a negative result.

OK so what about a time and date? I can see a 4 hour wait at the testing stations as people who do not need to get tested do exactly that.

SA Health have still not told us if they have tracked down the Victorian who started the Norwood cluster. He obviously did not check in with a QR code or they would know who he is. Is it a requirement that Victorians have the SAGov app on their phone before they cross into SA? QR Codes are a valuable resource and they work if everyone uses them and if the system follows up promptly but I suspect that under the revised contact tracing protocols the time lag on follow up is considerable particularly if they have multiple exposure sites to investigate.

I would be far more confident about opening borders up if I felt that SA Health had not relaxed their stance on contact tracing. The system seems to be all over the shop and nowhere near as tight as it was prior to the borders opening.

Nowhere in the instructions below does it say, 'you will be contacted by SA Health'. The emphasis is on people being aware of what steps to follow if they have been in an exposure site. Of course you have to know that you were in an exposure site and that may take some time.

I do not know if there are any penalties for not following these directions and even if there are how will they enforce them? I suspect that many people will not bother particularly those who are asymptomatic. Many people will not bother to get tested until they develop symptoms and in the meantime they will walk around for several days possibly infecting others.

If you open the link complete this form to notify SA Health you were at a Close Contact location as indicated in the screen shot above it will open a survey form that asks you to tell them when and where you were. I am not sure if everyone is required to complete the form or just those who did not check in with a QR Code. I would not not have thought there would be a need if the system was able to monitor the QR Code data base.

Living with COVID is not going to be a simple as some people think. Particularly when we unwittingly cross paths with an infected person.

They seem to be chasing their tails and it is only early days.

Israel is hoping that the boosters last for a long time, but its really a wait and see prospect.
What do you do if they don't? This shit has to end at some point.
Either get some better vaccines or move the **** on.

They can tailor the vaccine (and boosters) to address newer strains. We have the technology

Tredders strikes me as a pretty shrewd operator. I'm sure he has invested his money well over the journey, notwithstanding he would've copped a hit with the divorce. He's very likely to be able to get by comfortably without working.

Worse case scenario he'd be able to get by a while selling Port merch

It's sh*t that SA Health are not listing all exposures sites. Give people all of the information so they know what to do. People have been for the most part compliant in following directions throughout the pandemic, so do the right thing and give people the information they need rather than throwing your hands in the air and not bothering anymore.

What I love about current discourse is how the culture wars have taken over public health debate. Particularly when someone's position becomes a proxy for their personality or a reason to attack someone else.
