Ngl had some chuckles with people in the office abusing the Covid situation and trying to WFH in the past.

1. One person said he was at an exposure site at a fast food place and needed to quarantine. Turned out he just went through the drive through.

2. One person said he needed to isolate because his wife was a close contact. His wife lives in another state.

Other messed up things: Government workers for Human Services deemed as Essential and forced to be in the office (mainly because of the risk of exposing confidential information). Not considered essential enough to be eligible for the jab back when it was rolling out.

For those who are telling us to 'live with COVID' that may not be as easy as some of us think ...

In South Australia if you are vaccinated and have been to a close contact exposure site within the prescribed hours you are supposed to get a PCR Test immediately and quarantine for 7 days. You cannot leave isolation until you have a negative test after day 6 of quarantine.

This is OK if you can work from home or if you have a boss that will grant you a week's leave but if you are self employed or cannot work from home or employed as a casual and don't get annual leave life gets really complicated. At present there is Government support for workers who are directed to quarantine by SA Health. What is not clear is if this covers casual exposure site attendees who are self isolating for 7 days in accordance with SA Health requirements.

Then there is quarantine itself. If you cannot quarantine alone and have contact with your family they also need to quarantine. This means your spouse or partner staying home from work and your kids taking on distance learning.

You also cannot attend an event with a COVID management plan for 14 days after the initial exposure date date. So no footy for 14 days.

If you are unvaccinated or are notified by SA Health that you are a designated close contact the quarantine period is for 14 days. Health Check SA has 'support' in place for people in this situation. This includes geological and live face recognition to ensure that you remain at your designated place of quarantine. This is the home quarantine system that was trialled in SA.

If you have been to a casual contact exposure site you still have to get tested immediately but wait in isolation until you are notified of your test result. The last test i did took 24 hours but as the infection spreads and the system becomes overloaded that time will probably grow.

As the infection spreads this may not be a once in a lifetime occurrence.

That's because SA's rules are shit.

7 days can heck off. If you're found to be a close contact, quarantine until you get a test. If negative, go free. Watch for any symptoms and test again if any appear.

They've made it into a complete mess.

Bloody mess

I'm all for conservative management but if South Australia closes their borders to NSW and Victoria right before Christmas purely because of this new variant which there's enough evidence to suggest it's less virulent than anything we've seen ontop of the already high vaccination rates in the state they're the biggest joke in Australia.

I guess we’ll see.

You haven't even taken the vaccine so you're part of the problem.

Am I ? Or is it the powers that be are shitting their dacks with high vaccination rates ? You think Nicola the grey will shut borders & tighten restrictions is cause of the small portion of unvaccinated ? Why if vaccinated ppl are still afraid ? The super spreaders seem to be the ones crossing the borders all juiced up. I know a lot of juiced up peeps who feel short changed atm.

I just popped my head in here to stick up for Tredders.

No doubt I’ll cop some flak.

Copping flak sticking up for Warren Tredrea on the Port board would be the most 2021 thing to happen yet.

The “highly transmissible” Omicron variant of coronavirus ripping through South Africa is putting disproportionately large numbers of children under 5 years old in hospitals, a top South African government medical adviser said Friday.

The alarming development raises the prospect of a new global battle cycle against the virus, given that the new variant has already spread to dozens of countries. The South African scientists also said the new variant was spreading much quicker than any previous wave of the coronavirus.

You're not really "letting it rip" when you're protected with vaccination coverage plus a adequate test trace and isolate system. That's the thing. The systems are in place. It's time to move on. I can't speak for the healthcare system there but surely there's been enough time to bolster it whilst half the country has been locked down for 18 months.

Victoria 5 billion days of lockdown.

WA and Queensland provincial hermit kingdom mentality spurred on by embarrassing 'f*** the eastern states!/f*** NSW!' mentality.

SA locking down over a pizza box and now opening up just long enough to infect themselves before closing off again.

NSW #goldstandard Gladys 😍 Perrottet 😍

We’re in agreement for once.
