Could affect children more, who knows, could affect the elderly, infirm more, who knows yet?

I haven't looked in to other African countries, but in South Africa the issue isn't supply. They have plenty of vaccine doses, but people have been pathetically slow to get vaccinated:

I do think wealthy countries should do more though to increase supply to poorer African countries, however this won't guarantee that the doses make it in to the arms of the people there. There are a number of other problems in those countries which could hinder access to the vaccines.

If Omicron turns out to be less deadly in terms of severity of symptoms/hospitalisation/death, hopefully it means that Covid in general is beginning to peter out to be fairly harmless. Hopefully.

You have to wonder at the real covid numbers in NSW and VIC when we have a bunch of cases from there already and not even open a week.

The problem, is the ones desperate to rush into a state with 0 COVID from states with hundreds or over a thousand cases a day, before their case numbers come down or SA Vac rates are 90%+ are by definition (IMO), the selfish. So they are motivated to not go test or report symptoms as they’ve ‘had my rights to see ma family oppressed!’ and would rather risk people here then have to wait longer.

In the middle of a pandemic where you spent nearly a year blaming the former President of the USA for basically everything that was happening with it, constantly posting shit about America in here and then the other day a new variant comes out and you want the borders immediately closed to Africa (that's racist you know). Yet, not a peep that in the middle of a pandemic that Biden is allowing people from all over the world to flood in untested and then seed new COVID outbreaks in his own civilian population all across his country and then with this new scary variant that has you losing your shit, not a peep about the worst pandemic policy in modern human history and how he's gonna kill millions of Americans with it. This is from you constantly trying to ridicule Florida and Texas for things like mask mandates like you live in the country yet no issue with dropping a bunch of people with Omicron around the place.

The fact you keep dancing around it is because you can't answer anything coherently because all of your thoughts on Covid are all ideological and have been from the start.

and a Government that has been unable to vaccinate it's population is critical of other Governments for closing borders. They should be working at getting the majority of the South African population fully vaccinated before they criticise other Governments for acting to protect their populations from a variant about which little is known. In the UK Boris was blamed for not closing the UK borders quickly enough early in 2020 this time around he is wasting no time.

One good thing about Omicron is that the majority of cases have been reported among unvaccinated people. This gives a glimmer of hope that the current vaccines will hold up. Pfitzer have said it will take two weeks before they know how their vaccine stands up to Omicron and that they can have an updated vaccine ready in 100 days. If they need a new vaccine does that mean we will all need to get re vaccinated or will a modified booster do?

I guess Omicron had to happen sooner or latter and no one should be blamed for being ultra cautious.
