This annoyed me.

By the end of this T20 series Australia will have played 26 matches in India this year

After the 2 tests very late in the year we will have only played 3 international matches in Aus this calendar year - 1 test v South Africa & 2 tests vs Pakistan.

3 matches in Australia in a calendar year is quite embarrassing. I understand it was a packed overseas schedule what with an away Ashes and a WC overseas, but that's still pathetic.
We played 29 matches at home in 2022, and are scheduled to play 19 in 2024. Across the three years it averages out OK, I think.

The BGT, CWC and Ashes combo is also booked in for 2027, so be prepared for them to spend most of that year away from home, too.

"Australian selectors will meet this week to pick a Test squad for the three-Test Pakistan series, which starts on December 14 in Perth."

So what's the point of playing the PMs XI game (starting 6th Dec) if it has zero impact on selection?

If they waited until after that match, people would criticise that, too.

Hasn’t this happened before and they called someone into the squad anyway based on their performance? Kurtis Patterson springs to mind.

Yeah, good point. Scored twin tons and was brought in to the squad, eventually replacing Shaun Marsh in the XI.

Not particularly related but 2005 is the last year where Australia didn't play India in a game of international cricket.

India are the big money makers in cricket these days with all the lucrative pay tv and streaming rights for their games.

Prior to 2000 before pay tv and streaming took off Australia played India a lot less often, CA are just following the Indian money trail now.

manouevering bangladesh for a home summer test series to potentially august/september to mackay? cairns? etc and ditching the afghanistan series, just so we can squeeze in a one off test v england in the summer instead.

26/27 summer was:
afghanistan (1)
new zealand (3)
bangladesh (2)

now looking like:
bangladesh (2)
new zealand (4) perth, adelaide, sydney, melbourne (gabba out of action)
england (1) melbourne

just seems to be always india, england .

There is literally no sport I can think of that has gotten stronger by the weak nations just playing amongst themselves and just popping up for a token once a decade appearance against the good sides.

How in the world of crystal clear f**k can cricket administrators, no matter how much money they want to make, not see this?

I hope you understand why this is happening. 3 countries are major share holders and run cricket world wide, the others just fill in the gaps.

yeah its a joke.

i'm not asking for us to play nepal and uganda etc, just the test nations a bit more often and on an even keel, especially if you want more integrity in the WTC.

i mean why not bangladesh for a boxing day test match for example, rather than an aussie winter in the top end somewhere once every 20 years ?

its not as if the crowds wouldn't go to the boxing day test etc as there's 'normally' only 1 test a year in each australian city.

The vast majority of the Australia cricket public (including media, current and former players) hates the idea of this summer being Pakistan and West Indies. They'd lose their minds if Australia played Bangladesh on Boxing Day.

They'd be more than happy to play India or England every summer. After this summer they're basically getting it.

We know why.
We question how much is enough. India in particular do not NEED to keep doing this. They don’t need to keep jerking one another off every three weeks to keep their coffers full.

Yes I know that it’s not a bottomless pit and Australia and England are NOT India and DO have to toe the line a bit. But the three of them are butt-f**king the rest of the cricket world to a large extent and it is hurting the game.

It’s awesome that the associate countries are getting better and getting more exposure but in an era where in theory we should have more teams playing better cricket more often in the two longer formats, it’s going the other way.

Mitchell Johnson is spot on. There's no room to gift a going away series for Dave Warner. Give him a tap on the shoulder and blood someone else as opener during a soft Summer.

This annoys me

should we blame the government? "The current Federal anti-siphoning list does not protect Australia’s World Cup matches played outside of Australia and New Zealand, which left them vulnerable to poaching by a raider like Amazon."

Surely an improvement on Kayo/Fox sports. It couldn't be worse, right?

Maybe, except that there's no FTA coverage of the following events for the next 4 years - I already had Foxtel so wasn't unhappy with them having coverage rights, but at least we also had FTA coverage at the same time

No FTA coverage is BS:

In a landmark agreement, Prime Video will be the sole platform for all ICC tournaments and finals, including the 2024 men’s T20 World Cup, the 2025 women’s World Cup, that year’s World Test Championship final and the 2027 World Cup to be held in southern Africa.

That's fair. Removing FTA coverage is a massive backward step. I'm happy to see cricket shift away from Kayo/Foxtel otherwise.

As a kid we got all home international series on FTA, we got Ashes and Frank Worrell Trophy away and the associated one day series’, most weekends where there were no international games we got 2 mercantile mutual cup games and that was it.

There wasn’t an option to even get the other series, domestic or international, unless you had a satellite service.

Perhaps free to air access has gone backwards but overall access to cricket has never been better and you can essentially watch any game you want
