Not crows , but footy related, pretty annoyed with the southern football league atm.
One of my girls played under 7’s last year in a mainly boys team/comp we thought this year they’d be able to play u7 again as an overager (would have to wear an armband).
This year her twin sister wanted to play and it would be her first year of footy.
They aren’t big girls and would still struggle to get the footy more than Murphy during a game even as overagers.
Apparently they’ve changed the rules so overagers can’t play now, so my girls would have to play either u9’s mixed or u11 girls, my son played in u9s last year so I know the standard and they wouldn’t get a touch.
U11 girls would also be far too big a jump for them, so basically mine plus about 4 other girls are going to be lost to footy as I can’t see them coming back from here.
Very disappointed
That's a shame. I wonder why they changed it?

Worth checking about the U11 girls competition though. It might be 7-10 year olds

I would definitely look into it more. My daughter played 3 years in the minis u11 team in the SFL for the Wineflies - she has just moved up to u12’s this year (she is turning 12 in July). So from my experience, they will not be on their own.

My daughter had a ball and loves footy so much.

Good luck to your girls. Go get em!

AmericanCrow surprised you haven't switched to the Astros

Guy behind the batter was wearing one of these

Took me a search to see it wasn't a Crows beanie

You know better, GC

I stick with ALL my teams until the day they put me in the ground.

That said..the 80’s ‘stros colors were cool

I am blown away by the lack of respect that Ruccutio gets in Victoria. I was talking about how Danger will be regarded alongside the great mids of the generation before, such as Voss, Buckley and Roo, and people were literally putting Wowoedin and Priddis ahead of him.
Its because of who he is as much as what he did. They dont rate the bloke.

He was a remarkable player until the last 12 months

You take no notice of people like that

They probably would given Alberton is theirs

A number of years ago I recommended to the SFL (back when it was U/8, U/10, U/12) that they should establish U/11 & U/8 Girls grades, the U/11 was the only part that was adopted at that stage. Probably time for this to be revisited, even 4 U/7 Girls teams would be sufficient to run a season.

The sooner we get girls out of "mixed" teams the better, it is so detrimental to their development to be playing against the boys. Prior to the U/11s and even U/14 girls comps I saw so many young girls injured at U/17 or U/18 level as they had not experienced the physical side of the game due to the boys holding back against them in the years prior.

Your girls will likely be ok in the U/11 grade, it is still reduced-number games and played in good spirits.

I understand the rules around play-downs had become very liberal and it had got a bit out of control across the competition. The clubs pushed for it to only be permitted in extreme circumstances (i.e. medical).

Would be interesting to see if it was boys or girls that was getting out of control, I suspect the former.
From my observation all girls should at minimum be able to play a year down if they feel the need to.
As for splitting boys and girls our club has multiple teams in underages but wouldn’t be able to field a girls team in u7 or 9s.

There used to be an unwritten rules that girls could play two years below their age group in mixed or boys teams (in lots of sports).

Worked well from my observations but I guess it gave off the wrong vibe in today's age

The lowest age group should be 9-a-side, but that point just highlights another fundamental issue with the way the female version of the game is being administered at all levels. We need to get away from the idea that every club is capable of fielding female sides, there are just not enough players to go around. It is more important for fewer clubs to be set-up with a proper structure and pathway (including reserves at the senior level), than every club tacking on a team just to tick a box.
