Sounds dumb

Me and my mates get together once a year to watch the Dota 2 International event. Teams from all over the world participate for a prize pool of over 10 million dollars. It's watched by millions worldwide, with big live crowds, and every match streamed live.
It may sound like a cop out, only a game etc., but we've all been playing the game socially for years, and their skill level is orders of magnitude greater than ours, it's fun to watch.

We stream it on a big projector, have a few drinks and eat lots of take-away. It's just a sport like any other!
One cool thing about watching live is that you can watch it through the game client, you control your own camera angles, can check what stats you want, follow certain players etc. From a viewing perspective, it is leaps and bounds ahead of anything offered by real sports, and is all essentially free to watch.

Looks like I spoke too soon then

To be honest, it's pretty hard to follow, even though we are avid gamers. It's not something you would ever watch unless you're quite into the game, and there are quite a few different big games running their own leagues and comps.
I never watch motorsport, but now I'd actually consider watching e-sports of racing games. Those are the only video games I've spent any significant time playing. Can't be buggered playing FPS games.

So tell me, I'm not an accountant.

Is this good? I'm sure it has the potential to draw envious vitriol from The Teal. It sounds ok to me.

"The Adelaide Football Club has tonight reported a cash operating profit of $1,464,450 for the 2016 financial year"

"The operating profit also takes into account the financial impact, equating to $244,640, from former apparel sponsor BLK going into administration late last year.

Taking into account abnormal and non-cash items the Club’s statutory loss was $1,346,077. Included in this figure was depreciation of $1.347m, recognition of our game development grant of $1.1m and other distributions to stakeholders totalling $0.36m."

Doesn't sound good but I'm sure someone else will look more closely

Okay, trying to be positive here, Janus like even...

My knowledge is very limited here. I remember reading someone talk about clubs making profits and how unimportant it can actually be. Pretty sure it was a post here but can't remember.

Basically they were saying the club is a not for profit organisation and have no share holders. The 'shareholders' are the members and the aim is to produce a premiership for these 'shareholders'. Ending the year with a pile of cash in the bank won't win a flag, you're best to continually be spending as much as you can on facilities, coaches etc and finish all square or with a small profit.

Looking forward to hearing from the bean counters.

It's not a paper loss, it's something that you paid money for being worth less now. That's an actual loss.

Sounds like we have $1.3m more in the bank, but $1.1m of that is from a one-off grant and our fixed assets are worth $1.3m less than last year.

When our lease runs out at westlakes, our facilities are worthless. I'm not sure we are too worried about their value.

As I said earlier, my knowledge here is very limited, but I don't believe it's correct to call it at this stage "an actual loss". If we had left West Lakes in that financial year then it's 'an actual loss' as you say.

Someone please correct me if I'm way off.

This man Rucci's had a close look. Not sure if he's serious. I think he's building it up working on the gravity principle - the higher it is, the harder it falls. Expecting an article in a few days "Crows deceptive in announcing......"
