I think Peterson is a bit of charlatan and I don't agree with a lot of what he says. But I can also understand why people might like to go an watch him speak. Can someone who is upset/offended by Crows players going to watch him explain why it's a problem?

I've seen him a few times where he discusses something with someone for a couple of minutes. I'm not learned in his area of expertise, so can't comment on how correct he is. But I can say that he does a lot better explaining the logic supporting his conclusion than the person that's opposing him. He just comes across as intelligent, articulate and pragmatic to me. But I do think that the people he's talking to are generally way out of their depth and it's probably rarely a fair fight.

My whole aim with my question was why someone would post a political statement on a Crows topic instead to going to The Adelaide Board Politics free for all topics. It where all our nutty opinions are one way or another. Is ROB not allowed to do a photo shoot with anyone and just with people of a certain political belief. I have no opinion on Peterson one way or another (I don't know or care much about him) but complaining to the club about a photoshoot post done in someone's private time . Where are we as a society?
Maybe. I did write to the club before I posted here.
This board is also about personal views and opinions and I am happy to have my reaction to the story about players in our club known.
Writing to the club about posting on BF. WTF

"Canberra based"

If this guy could only stay fit and, on the park, this could make a massive difference for us next season (what he showed in bursts in the SANFL was frickin' awesome). Huge season ahead for young Luke.

Given he's a controversial figure it was always going to be a news story if a player posted a picture with him. Even if the story is minor, outlets are desperate for absolutely anything and we seem to keep giving them stuff to talk about - and not in a good way.

Ideally our players that do like him (couldn't care less) would just keep that to themselves so the club doesn't get dragged into it. Remove distractions and keep the club focused on results for just a single off season, that would be nice.

You'd think he went and saw David Irving the way people are talking.

It was Jordan Peterson, get a grip.
Left leaning outlets and journalists despite him and will turn everything he says, does or associates with into a story and try to drum up controversy

Jordan Peterson is just your stock standard self help grifter that speaks on topics far outside his wheelhouse.

His more benign opinions amount to cleaning your room helps mental health. Truly groundbreaking stuff.

Before he started with the self help grift he was going to do a religious grift because he believes his wife has visions and was going to create a religion around these visions. Seriously.

As for ROB. What talk he goes to in his own time is his own business and any consequences are his business too. Though I don't know why anyone would be shocked by a Crows player being taken in by a self help grifter. Collective minds and all that.

The point is Riley actually didn’t need to post on Instagram, he could have gone like many others, met him, had a photo with him for his own record but never post.

Once he posts on social media with a well known controversial figure he opens himself up - it goes with the territory. He can be ridiculed for making his views public.

All I want from Riley is to tap the ball to our midfielders and perhaps jump more than a foot off the ground.

This is the problem in a nutshell

People not only don’t read for themselves the subjects and works on which they adopt a position, they don’t even see why they should!

Some dumbasses YouTube clip (which I won’t be watching) is no shortcut to knowing what you think about a subject.

I have read (very) little of Peterson, and I’ve seen him interviewed a couple of times. He seemed articulate enough, and my views on him don’t extend much beyond that.

Why on earth would anyone be so confident in their opinions based on borrowed snippets from other people?

You don’t have to have an opinion on everything, and if you do, can at it least be your own based on what you’ve read or observed?
Same.

From the little I’ve seen he’s a pretty mild 1950s style conservative. Not my cup of tea but I struggle to understand why he gets so much attention and angry opppsition when there are much more extreme right-wing views out there.

They are allowed to have their own views but if it conflicts with 'left leaning outlets and journalists' they must keep it to themselves?

yeh, that doesn't sound very seriously to me. More like something from a batshit crazy person that appeared on your FB feed.

can you name a few controversial left figures that you'd also not want him posting on Insta with?

They are public, high paid representatives of the club. I think it's reasonable to expect that anything that would generate controversy should be kept out of the public eye. As any organisation would expect for their important public facing employees
