Like the others I find the continual Schmidt "put down" hard to fathom, he has been far from our worst whenever he has been given an opportunity. There's several players still on our list that I'd put under the microscope going forward long before Chris Schmidt.

nothing wrong with Schmidt, will be a good depth player for us.

Jacobs played mainly up forward, took some good grabs but missed 3 shots on goal and didn't really dominate. Looks like he was being eased back into footy. Big unit.

Aiden Riley was really impressive. Busts through packs like P Dangerfield, best game I've seen him play. Only 19, bulked up over summer, played mainly on ball. Should get plenty of time in the midfield at Sturt.

Also great was Chad Wingard, 17 year old skinny kid. Real footy smarts, great leap, kicked a couple of goals and involved himself all over the ground. Would love to draft him to the crows.

Could not see Will Young in Norwoods stats on SANFL website unless he was unidentified player.:eek:

Lyons looks like he was relatively quiet.

Sturt's Jeckyl & Hyde performances continue. Trounce the premiership favourites after curling up our toes against the Legs.

Who are the wooden spoon favourites? No doubt we'll lose to them next week.

Very good reports on Riley. Luke Crane our best.

Went down to the parade and despite the fact he didn't get heaps of the ball was pleased with what I saw from Jarryd Lyons. He has filled out nicely and attacked the ball with intencity. Was playing as a deep forward much of the game working up to the half forward line. It was a very tight game, Glenelg's 18man zone made life very difficult for Norwood getting the ball out of defence.

Chad Wingard for Sturt is a very talented kid and won't be available in the draft by the time it is our turn. Would love to see him fall to us but can't see it happening.

Well said Neddy, Schmidt has been one of the prime movers in West Adelaide's two wins. His on ball work against Centrals was superb and the longer the game went the better he got. Much maligned player who has good size and is really becoming an influential player at West.

Nick Lower was cast as a defender with the Power but those of us that follow SANFL all knew he was a midfielder, luckily his performances were too hard to ignore and he was given a second chance.

Schmidt is not the quickest players in the league but he gives a 100% and is nowhere near the dud some paint him here as.
Give him an on ball job and you will see a more comfortable player at AFL level.

I am probably one of the few that really liked Schmidt last year. Never really thought of him as mid though. He could come in handy in a week or two.

+1:thumbsu:

Here's hoping that Chris uses this afternoons relatively large stage to put his best foot forward and silence some critics.

Gunston got 18 or 19 disposals, laid a few tackles and kicked a goal. He was the third man up at a lot of ruck contests around the ground.
I saw Emannuel Irra today for the first time. He didn't get a lot of it but did some very nice things. His pace was brilliant had good handball skills in traffic. Kicked a very good goal at full speed. Could be anything in a few years. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

I stand corrected but does not look as though Schmidt is playing for Westies today.

Turning 18 this year, played basketball against him all through my junior career. Really, really good at that too, represented SA until under 18s when he focused on footy. Good kid.

oh please.

schmidt is a midfielder, not a defender. his first game in the midfield for westies he held bernie vince to about 8 touches. his reward? watching vince play for the crows next week.
Absolute vanilla garbage player. You don't win premierships with Chris Schmidts in your team.

Oh really....

Our two premierships in 1997 and 1998 test that theory!!!

I personally wouldn't have classed James Theissen, Aaron Keating, Ben Marsh, Shane Ellen, Andrew Eccles, Clay Sampson and Chad Rintoul as as exceptioal players either but they got the job done.... they all "own" a Premiership Medallion!!!!!
Footy is a TEAM game!!!

This weekend what I saw

1st-3rd quarters, Norwood vs Glenelg reserves - Will Young, solid, not a star, did enough to get a call up to league next week.

mid 1st-end of the game, North vs Port 16s - no one played

full game, North vs Port 18s - no one played

3rd-4th quarters, North vs Port reserves - no one played

full game, North vs Port league - Milera, did he even get to double didget disposals? I can only recall 2 kicks (and 1 was a clanger), Armstrong, would of been in the top 2-3 players for North untill he got injured with a corked right thigh late in the 2nd quarter.

C'mon DB lift your game, I was able to get 6½ games in this weekend. :D

Norwood vs Glenelg (Reserves)
Norwood vs Glenelg (League)
Port Adelaide vs North Adelaide (U18s) half game
West Adelaide vs Ainslie (Foxtel Cup)
Port Adelaide vs Adelaide (AFL)
North Adelaide vs Port Adelaide (Reserves)
North Adelaide vs Port Adelaide (League)

Tim Milera - really needs to shed some kg's, has no aerobic capacity and is completely stuffed after one good chase

Will Young - clearly a class above Reserves level football, the true test for him is how long before he pushes his name forward for AFL

Jarryd Lyons - quiet first half, was able to get into it more in the second half, works well inside and foot skills seem to be tidy

Brad Moran - dominant in the air and around the ground against a far inferior side, needs to back it up this week against Sturt before any praise is showered upon him

Lachlan Roach - I'm impressed. Super clean taking the ball off the deck, good poise and awareness, foot skills clean (spotted up leads and hit most targets). Needs to put on 8-10kg, very slight

Tony Armstrong - as Riggy said went off injured in the 2nd. Up till then was finding quite a bit of ball across half back, had a few errors but was good for most part

Stefan Jarman have a run? thoughts?

Didn't really standout. They played him at centre bounces and around stoppages. Has hair (at the moment) and certainly is still very thin, with little to no muscle definition (to be expected though for his age). Looks comfortable at U18 level.

No real outstanding physical attributes but there is still a long way to go. Just worried he might too much like his dad and not quick enough.
