It's an absolute nothing article. Bullshit journalism at it's finest. They're trying to imply that our policy this year is in any way different to our policy last year which is simply not the case. We were crystal clear last year - if we had been in contention for the finals, Bock would have played as long as he was in our best 22. We were not in contention for the finals, so we gave a kid a go who might still be there next time we are in contention.

From what I read in that article, we have the identical policy this year. This junk about "NOT TREATED LIKE NATHAN BOCK" and "SIGNIFICANT PHILOSOPHICAL CHANGE" is little more than a flimsy justification for a ratings-grabbing headline.

And two guesses who the author was stabby. I'll even give you a hint, the first draft was written in crayons

The truth is the club doesn't know what it will do.

You react at the time.

What was the club policy on farewell games? On handling midseason retirements? We changed our minds at least twice last season. What was our agreement with our veterans that they would be prepared to play SANFL football?

If we are out of the running for the finals this year will we jettison whichever player has signed with GWS immediately? What if we are IN contention for finals, Walker announces he is off to GWS at the end of the year and at the time Walker is playing but McKernan is in the SANFL? Did we switch them over?

What if another club announces a player is leaving at season's end. They continue to play him but his form turns to shit and it causes in-house issues. Do we follow suit?

Our philosophy will change as the circumstances change.

Yeah, probably on the money there Carl. All depends where we're at the time of finding out.

Player reaction is another factor. What if a couple of players say, gtfo?

When Free agency takes affect it could be possible for a current player to be playing against his "new team" in the finals.

They would need to declare this before selection otherwise questions would be asked.

Give the Kid a break !!!!!!

When will the so called football purists and supporters of the AFC give Walker a break. There are other players out of contract that no one wants to write about but from what has been said he obviously wants to concentrate on his footy and back himself in to secure his next contract with the AFC. Considering that he has a sometimes fragile relationship with NC, supposedly, it would take a lot of confidence and committement to gamble the basis of your contract on your seasons performance.
If he so chooses to do so then appreciate that is entirley his decision. Sheedy is a master at smokescreens and dont be surprised if his is looking at Otten or Davis whilst everyone goes on about Walker. A complete media beatup !!!!!!
Enjoy the kids we have at the club and watch them develop this year into a finals team.
Respect the player that he is and marvel at what he could be and if body language is a good indication then he surley looks as though he wants to be a CROW

How was it average? as a Pauline Hanson and please explain.

I disagree, I don't beleive the propaganda about his defensive abilities or sensualist stories generating from his fan boiiis - IMO his form for a 20 year old with less than 20 games was on par to other players at the same stage. His stats indicate he is on par with J. Brown, N. Riewoldt, M. Pavlich.

so, what was so average about it? he didn't kick 100 goals or take 500 contested marks to meet your lofty standards. He'd played 20 games before the start of last year FFS.

It wasn't average and it wasn't ordinary.

Hey Tex, wanna back rub??

AAAAALLLRRRRIIIIIIGGGGHHHHHTTTT... :D:D:D:D

Choco was on 5AA tonight and the boys asked hm at the end whether the rumour that GWS had stitched up Alipate Carlisle was correct.

Choco replied that they had made no contact with Carlisle.

They then asked him about Taylor Walker.

Choco's response was silence, as if to give the impression that they had.

Cornesy and Rowey burst out laughing as did Choco and when things had settled down Choco made the following statement voluntarily

"you guys talk up Taylor Walker more than we do"

I stlll think Walker will be staying here.

Come on M23

I'm not gonna comment on Walker staying or not because that has been done to death and we will now just wait and see what happens but do you honesty believe Choco will give an answer that transparent?

All of his answers in that area would be planned and calculated to either draw information out of people are push them away, but he will never be that open with an answer.

Please it was Mark Williams. Lets be real.

I read it as, in Maccas personal opinion is walker will stay. But marks reaction was that the two parties had talked. I may be wrong.

His personal opinion was nothing to do with, in fact that was irrelevant.

The part i quoted "you guys talk up Taylor Walker more than we do" was a quote by Mark Williams and I read as the Adelaide Media hype him up more than he is actually worth and MW was trying to send a message as that they were not interested in him. Therefore, I made the prediction that Mark Williams was telling porkies to try and remove some of the speculation.

My point was also, that Choco was trying to keep it under wraps. But maccas last line says "I still think walker will stay" which is obviously his own opinion. Which to me seems to suggest that macca doesn't believe Choco either. But only macca can really say what he means.

As you've said it. The bit about Walker staying is just my opnion added on after the main part..

As for Choco, he was toying with Cornsey and Rowey. His first indicator by silence was that they have spoken to Walker. His 2nd comment was to play down that indication so that anyone listening wasn't really any the wiser by anything that he'd said - bearing in mind that over the years Choco's gigantic gob has got him in strife more than once. :D

I would be amazed if they hadn't spoken to Walker. but I believe that he will stay

Yes but not directly. Second hand.

Could have spoken to his management though.

I don't think Tex will draw a massive contract offer from GWS, if at all. They are going to save that for your Swan and other high profile players.

Why do you think he will stay Mac?

It would be interesting to estimate how much the GWS would currently value Walker at. If it's based on AFL performance to date (ie in the main quite average -) how much would he get? You wouldn't think even with their extra cap they would throw the kitchen sink at Walker. Its a dangerous thing to do, especially for a new club, to throw ridiculous amounts of cash at youngsters based on potential and not performance. If Walker has another year like last year, could GWS afford to take the risk and throw $800-$1 mill at the kid when they will probably take 6-8 or so "proven" players at a minimum amount of $500-$600k.

On second thoughts I maybe just clutching at straws. It's going to be a long year. It seems we have to suffer though one of these every year now.
