Personally I take comfort from posts on here from CG and Macca23. And I think some of the newer posters who are shitting their pants over Walker's possible defection should do as well.

If Walker hasn't signed, he would lose nothing by coming out and saying so. If he hasn't spoken up by now, believe it that he is already gone and by playing him we will be wasting a year on developing someone else's star forward. No thanks.

Speak up or **** off. The world wont end if taylor leaves but there is already a bitter taste in my mouth.

This 'has he or hasn't he' will damage the team, and M Rucci will see to it that as much damage as possible is done.

So what's it to be Taylor? Nobody will blame you if you say you're going. Money talks, everyone understands that.

Just dont play the AFC and its supporters for fools. Spit it out son. Staying or going? Which bit of that is too difficult?

Think that taste could be your head where it shouldnt be ! Grow up and have amature outlook on the whole situation as all clubs this year will be in the same boat with one or two players attached to GWS thru the media. Look at what the kid has achieved in his three years at the club and every adverse criticism that has been aimed at him he has gone back and tried to work on it and now he has just said let me play my football and get on with it. What is wrong with that ????? Footy4ever money doesnt talk read tha article on Travis Cloke and you might understand !

I'd hope the people saying those things about western Sydney aren't just relying on stereotypes and have some basis to make those comments, just as I'd like to think a visitor to Adelaide would experience more than a couple of suburbs before making sweeping statements about the whole outfit. I'd like to know by what measure Prospect isn't considered a nice suburb though? Perhaps your friend is an old money, high society Sydney type :D

I know I certainly would be if I was a sporty type earning hundreds of thousands per year. How long are we talking to drive to their training base from say Bondi?

What I meant by the Prospect comment was that his experience of Adelaide wasn't confined to visiting Salisbury.

Clearly, most people making these sorts of comments about both Western Sydney and Adelaide are either ignorant or bringing their own prejudices to the table, most likely both.

I once lived in Bondi and worked in Liverpool, which is pretty far west. I can guarantee that my job wasn't anywhere near as enticing as being a professional sportsman. If I can manage the commute at peak hour, I'm sure a footballer can, especially with the added bonus of good money and living in a world city.

There are plenty of places much closer to Western Sydney which far outstrip Prospect in the niceness stakes. These include beaches, water front properties, suburbs where Hollywood stars live and the Blue Mountains.

Who would be naive enough to think money doesn't talk? I don't give a rats fart about Travis Cloke. Does anyone think he isnt being seriously looked after at Collingwood outside of his contract?
If taylor walker is committed to the AFC he would come out and stop the speculation. Until he does, it will have an adverse effect on the team.

I would put money on the fact that 95% of eastern seaboard residents who bag adelaide have never set foot in the place.

Ridiculous isn't it?

And yet you're quite happy to denigrate myself, my friends and my family on the basis of an innocuous anecdote about the differences between Sydney and Adelaide.

I'm sure you felt quite proud and manly as you typed that semi-literate tripe.

Congratulations.

I know this is a popular view, but it's simply not true.

Relying on stereotypes may help you sleep better at night, but it doesn't change reality.

Despite the fact that there are plenty more places much nicer than the majority of Adelaide in Sydney's west, the players don't have to live there.

I will grant you that the perception of Western Sydney may turn off potential recruits, but if they're offered enough money they may want to go find out for themselves. When they do, they'll probably go further than simply cruising down the highway with their nose turned up.

It's not stereotypes. I live in Sydney and travel frequently to and through the western suburbs. If you think any recruit is going to set up camp in Bondi or Coogee with a pad overlooking the beach and just rock a 15 minute commute from the Eastern Suburbs to Bankstown or Homebush like it's Glenelg to West Lakes you're sorely, sorely mistaken. Anyone who moves over there is living out west, no two ways about it. Homebush would be the luckiest you would get. If you want to move to Sydney to play AFL and live near the beach, call John Longmire, not Kevin Sheedy.

My friend said the same things about Adelaide that people say about Western Sydney.

I don't live there, but have worked all over Sydney and know it well. When you see so many people sprouting ignorant rubbish, it's hard to let it be. Just like it was hard to let it be when my friend said the same things about Adelaide.

Like I said above, I live here and I'm not 'sprouting' any 'ignorant rubbish' that anyone else in Sydney who lives east of Homebush doesn't say every day. And I lived in Adelaide for 27 years as well.

You're right, my friend did sound like an imbecile, and so too do people who say that "Adelaide is a veritable paradise compared to Penrith, Bankstown and Castle Hill".

I'll say it once more for truth: 'Adelaide is a veritable paradise compared to Penrith, Bankstown and Castle Hill.' Every damn day of the week.

sorry mate, I don't need internet forums to make me feel proud or manly

I do apologise however for giving you the impression that I care about your opinion on the subject :thumbsu:

Mate, do you think I haven't lived in both?

To any Sydneysider, lumping Castle Hill, Penrith and Bankstown together reeks of ignorance. Penrith in particular is very similar to much of Adelaide: new suburbs.

Each one of those suburbs has a massive amount of diversity within it. The Hills district for instance has the rather depressing housing trust area of Macquarie fifteen minutes drive from the somewhat toffy area of Dural.

Yes, your post is ignorant.

I've lived east of Homebush the entire time I have been in Sydney. The furthest West I've lived is Newtown.

Don't buy into the tribalist rhetoric that pervades most discussions about the different areas of Sydney.

You are having a go at one of OUR players for not coming out and saying whether or not he is staying?:thumbsd: Most AFL players do this, to eek out more money in their next contract, are you really that blind? He could re-sign within the coming weeks for all we know.

It isn't the player's fault either, blame the managers if you really want to blame someone.

However, if you think your arguement is solid, Geelong made a prelim last year with Ablett in nearly every headline all season.

Pathetic post.

Adelaide should make him an offer he can't refuse, right now on the table.
He'd be silly to sign now when his value will be significantly lower than whta it would be come August.

He's going to be a gun, no doubt about it, he kicks goals from 60m of one step & OF his wrong foot, c'mon, hardly anyone in the AFL does things like that. Make him an offer Crows, cmon.

Mate - get over your superiority complex. Having some sort of white knight complex for the western suburbs doesn't excuse labelling everyone who disagrees with you as ignorant or imbecilic.

Quite frankly, claiming that 'Penrith in particular is very similar to much of Adelaide: new suburbs' is just wrong and I'm struggling to think of any new suburbs in Adelaide that would compare.

Also, every Sydneysider lumps Castle Hill, Penrith and Bankstown together, and together with most of the suburbs in the greater west. It's a region. That's why the AFL gave them a team. They didn't say 'this team is for Penrith in the west, Richmond in the mountains, Bondi in the east, and Chatswood on the north shore' - they picked an area were people IDENTIFY themselves as being from.

Do those people reek of ignorance? Are Penrith Panthers fans ignorant? Parramatta Eels fans? People who live in Kellyville? All of them identify as westies and the rivalry between the upper-class Eastern suburbs and working class Western Suburbs has been going on for years, and is one of the most enjoyable elements of the sporting landscape in Sydney during the winter.

That is, until some holier-than-thou White Knight comes along to remind us all that they have a super-important point to make about 'tribalist rhetoric' not being politically correct.

The greater west has a massive amount of cultural diversity? Yep, every region in Australia does. So does Footscray & Sunshine in Melbourne's west. Money aside, between there and the Gold Coast, which one are you going to choose?

Adelaide doesn't have cap room to make that offer only GWS have that ability.
But I don't think he will be a priority for GWS yet (he doesn't have the runs on the board). If some of the higher profile players decline their offer then they may turn to him with the big bucks but only if he shows some improvement over this season.
Let's face it GWS have enough speculative kids on their list so their main priority should be gaining quality experienced players first and then perhaps someone like TW who still has a way to go.

I agree. The players that people need to be really worried about are the ones who Sheedy's not mentioning. Just like the old stager to put the wind up everyone to get them to focus on the obvious targets while he quietly goes after the ones he really wants. Why not get a club to spend more money than they should normally on a player like Walker while he chases a Davis or Vince (for example purposes only).

It is in Adelaide's interest to see how he goes this season anyway. If he doesn't show improvement in his game I wouldn't be too upset to see him go.

exactly. people need to chill the **** out. if we pay Walker over the odds, what then? it just leaves us unable to pay fair market value to about 15 other young players, many of whom have shown as much if not more to date than TW, which leaves us WAY more vulnerable as a club.

How is it clubs like st Kilda and hawthorn don't seem to get raided. Their players are just as good or better. Their main would be targets seem to come out and knock it on the head before any interest in them. Ala hodge Has the clubs managed the contracts better and locked them away or have the got a better culture than us or is it just luck?

Yes I'm having a go at one of our players, and If I supported Geelong I would have done the same re Abblett. No player is bigger than the club. Remember Bock?

Correct about geelong, but what, you think they'd had to have finished bottom to prove the speculation did damage their performance:confused:. Take away the constant speculation and, as was mentioned on radio just yesterday...could they have achieved more without the obvious situation between Abblett and Thompson? Quite possibly.

If you've got a problem with your employer expecting the truth from you, then get on the centre link line.

We all want walker to stay, and if he re-signs I'll be as joyous as the next person. Just stop playing games. He knows there's a huge amount of unsettling talk. The truth please.

If I wanted to blame anything, I'd be pointing the finger at the AFL for cocking up the process.

Read it in The Herald Sun yesterday.

It just felt like NC has resigned himself to the fact that Tex is leaving. It didn't instill much confidence in me that he came out and said that and I'm sure it would leave his players feeling the same way.

Coaches like Craig, Scott and Co should address these matters behind close behind doors, not making it a media circus.

I think Neil Craig's vision for club culture took a bit of a hit last year with the nature of Bock'departure, you could see his angst after we narrowly lost to Collingwood that week. While I dont think Tex fits the mould of model footballer in Craig's eyes, I don't buy into the "Craig hates Walker" theory either. It would kill him to lose a guy who bleeds red, blue and yellow like Walker does and this situation is obviously taking it's toll.

Nor i, have yet to be convinced that Taylor has the necessary head room to fit everything in it & for all the natural ability that he does have his suffers from to many brain fades at the wrong moment in a footy game.

Would love to be proven wrong & he becomes a 200 plus game player for us.

Must also add that i was one of those on this board that thought Bock was a waste of space some years back.

I'm sure they will and if I was a supporter of one of those clubs I'd be more scared that I wasn't hearing anything, because I really doubt that Sheedy is going to be vocal about all his targets just so he can give their clubs a chance to re-sign them.
